God proved his love for us by giving us the best he had to offer - his only begotten Son who freely gave himself as an offering to God for our sake and as the atoning sacrifice for our sin and the sin of the world. This passage tells us of the great breadth and width of God's love. Not an excluding love for just a few or for a single nation, but a redemptive love that embraces the whole world, and a personal love for each and every individual whom God has created. God is a loving Father who cannot rest until his wandering children have returned home to him. Saint Augustine says, God loves each one of us as if there were only one of us to love. God gives us the freedom to choose whom and what we will love. Jesus shows us the paradox of love and judgment. We can love the darkness of sin and unbelief, or we can love the light of God s truth, beauty, and goodness. If our love is guided by what is true, good and beautiful then we will choose God and love him above all else. What we love shows what we prefer. Love God above all else and give him first place in your life, thoughts, decisions and actions. Jesus Christ, your death brought life for us. May your love consume and transform my life that I may desire you above all else. Help me to love what you love, to desire what you desire, and to reject what you reject. Holy Cross to March In St. Patrick s Day Parade Our Holy Cross Saints Banners will be marching in the 6th Annual Rumson St. Patrick s Day Parade this Sunday, March 11th beginning at 1 PM from Victory Park. We need some Irish spirit to help carry our banners and to form a group to march with Holy Cross. We invite all parishioners and school families to march with us! March 11, 2018 Page 3 #623 Stations of the Cross Praying the Stations of the Cross helps us reflect on the passion and death of Christ in preparation for Good Friday and the Easter celebration. Join us for Stations of the Cross on Friday evenings at 7:00 PM in Holy Cross Church. Confessions will be heard immediately following Stations. Annual Catholic Appeal Holy Cross Vocation Chalice One of the responsibilities we have as Catholics is to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Holy Cross Vocation Chalice is a great opportunity for families to pray together to promote vocations. Just take the chalice home, place it in a prominent place and pray for vocations. Prayers are included with the chalice. Return the chalice after a week for the next family to take home. If your family would be interested in participating, please call the Parish Office, or fill out a form on the parish website. Praying for vocations is the most powerful way to support vocations. A vocation is a call from the Holy Spirit, a gift from God that is nurtured in prayer. When we pray for vocations, we lift up to our Father those men and women whom He is calling to follow Him in a very special way. Families are the foundation of the Catholic parish. In the midst of the family and parish community, people encounter Christ and learn to be his disciples. Family and Parish are the primary environment in which evangelization takes place. Your gift promotes individuals and family life. Youth events and service opportunities, young adult gatherings, Marriage prep, Baptismal prep, Ministry to separated and divorced persons, are just a few of the services offered. Please support the Annual Catholic Appeal. Holy Cross Men s Group Join us on March 15, at 7:30 PM, our topic will be; Resolutio Putting Love into Action Faith in action is love, and love in action is service. By transforming that faith into living acts of love, we put ourselves in contact with God Himself, with Jesus our Lord. These wise words from Saint Teresa of Calcutta point us toward the final step in our study of prayer: resolutio. After encountering God in prayer, and especially sharing in his gaze of love in contemplatio, as discussed in the last session, our prayer should naturally lead us to a resolution to love God and our neighbor better. Let s take a closer look at how making a resolution to act in love is necessary in order for our prayer to bear fruit in our lives. New members are always welcome! Palm Sunday Procession Everyone is welcome to join us in or Palm Sunday Procession, as we cross over the bridge, from Sea Bright to Holy Cross Church, before the 10:30 Mass.
