My Dear Fellow Parishioners: Have you ever been on the receiving end of a miracle or a miraculous event? I have. It happened in 1999, when our now-retired pastor, Fr. Brian Joyce, invited me to come on board as a staff member here at Christ the King Parish. It was a part-time position as coordinator of the Small Christian Community and Bereavement ministries. Brian and I had known each other since the 1970s, during my tenure as Director of Mount Mary Immaculate Spiritual Growth Center in Lafayette. In 2003, then RCIA Coordinator Marie Ascatigno announced her retirement from the staff. Brian appointed me as a committee of one and charged me with inding a replacement for her. After doing my due diligence and coming up empty, he said, Why don t you do it? Could that have been his intention all along? Fast forward to today. After having the privilege of working alongside some of the best-ever priests and nuns (too many to name here) and the most committed ministry mates and parishioners I have ever known, I ve come to the realization that it s now time for me to retire, which I will on July 31 of this year. In the course of my parish ministries, I have gotten to know hundreds of you and consider you my cherished homies. I ve shared the RCIA journey with amazing and dedicated team members. Together, we have helped many new Catholics to enter the Church. In addition, we have accompanied other adult Catholics to the Sacrament of Con irmation. Since 2016, I ve had the great privilege of spearheading the new ctkalive! parish renewal initiative that is now under way. (Be sure to sign up for one of the summer weekend offerings on June 21-22 / July 22-23.) Is it any wonder that I sing/say, Holy ground, I m standing on holy ground, every time I step onto this beautiful campus? I really do. No kidding. This is not goodbye. Esther and I aren t going anywhere. CTK will always be our spiritual home. So, if not farewell, then certainly a great big THANK YOU for allowing me into your lives and hearts these past 20 years. Al Garrotto I would like to thank Al Garroto for a job well done. As an RCIA Director, Al has been invited into the highs and lows, the yin and the yang, the passions, deaths and resurrections of peoples lives. It is quite an honor and a blessing to accompany adults on their journey of faith. I would like to thank Al and Esther who have worked as a Team at CTK. I would also like to share with you that Chris Caban informed me he has decided not to return as Principal of Christ the King School next year. I would like to extend my gratitude to Chris for his leadership and work with the school as well as the community and wish him and his family blessings as he moves to a new phase of his journey. Please join me in wishing him well. Together with the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, Kathleen Radecke, and the Dept. of Human Resources we will launch our search for a new Principal. I will form a committee to help me with this endeavor and I ask for your support and prayers during this time of transition. Fr. Paulson Fourth Sunday of Easter April 22, 2018 First Reading: Acts: 4:8-12 Early in the Acts of the Apostles, Peter and John healed a lame man who used to sit begging each day at the gate of the temple. This miracle led to their arrest, and they were brought before the Sanhedrin. In today s passage, we hear Peter speaking boldly about Jesus to these Jewish leaders. In these few sentences, Peter presents the very heart of the Christian message. Second Reading: 1 John 3:1-2 During this Easter season, we are reading from the first letter of John. Today s passage reminds us about something both John and Paul emphasized: Jesus has made it possible for us to be God s sons and daughters, not just in some future life, but here and now.
