OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, Our sympathy to the family of Ron Michels. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace. Happy Memorial Day weekend! This weekend is the unofficial start of summer for most, but I would suggest we take some time to remember why this holiday exists in the first place. It is a day to remember all of our fallen soldiers, to honor those who have served. In past years, I have been asked to give an address at the civic services, and those experiences have helped clarify in my mind the need for such a day. Our war veterans carry heavy burdens in their memories of battle. They did what they needed to do to protect the country and innocent civilians, but, honestly, were not always treated with the respect and compassion they need. They were not war-mongers, though some treat them as such, and most of us cannot begin to grasp the levels of horror they witnessed. So, I would like to say to those who have fought so bravely: Thank you! May your service be remembered and your sacrifices not be in vain. Memorial Day, as well, is a good day to visit the cemeteries and pray for those who have died. We have inherited so much from them. I look forward to the Mass at Calvary Cemetery in St. Peter I hope that the day is nice. All are welcome but please bring a chair! Congratulations to our sixth graders as they leave John Ireland School this week, and congratulations to all students as they complete the year. Thanks, again, to faculty, staff, volunteers, and benefactors for your commitment to them as they grow and learn. In Christ, Fr. Todd J. Petersen ================================================================= WEEKLY SCHEDULE May 25 June 1, 2014 6 th Sunday of Easter, May 25 8 AM Mass at Nicollet 10 AM Mass (Parish Family), St. Peter No Coffee & Rolls Monday, Memorial Day 9 AM Mass (+Margaret Parker), Calvary Cemetery (In church, if inclement weather) Offices Closed No School Tuesday 8 AM Mass (+Henry & +Michael Kirchner), Chapel 5:45 PM Administrative Council, Room 127 Wednesday 8 AM Mass (+Virginia Vogel), Chapel 8:15 AM School Awards, Church 2 PM Baptism Class, Family Room Thursday 8 AM Mass (Special Intention), Chapel 1 10 PM Eucharistic Adoration, Chapel 3:30 PM Confessions, Chapel 6:30 PM JI 6 th Grade Graduation Mass, Church (Intentions of the graduates), followed by reception in Social Hall Friday 8 AM Mass (+Vince Dumdei), Chapel Last day of class for John Ireland Field Day Saturday 3 PM Wedding (Danielle Quaday & Scott Radermacher), St. 5 PM Mass (+Jack & +Cele Biggins), St. Peter 5 PM Mass, Nicollet Ascension of the Lord, June 1 8 AM Mass, Nicollet 10 AM (Parish Family), St. Peter HELP NEEDED: We are in need of volunteers for the Area Faith Community picnic on June 29, following the 10 am Sunday Mass. God s Heavenly Garden Sometimes God picks the flower That is still in full bloom; Sometimes the rosebud s chosen That we feel He s picked too soon. Sometimes the flower is fading With petals floating down, But God knows the perfect time To gather flowers from the ground. There is a heavenly garden In which God takes great pleasure Because He s placed within it The loved ones that we treasure. He walks among the blossoms Giving them eternal rest, And I know that it must please Him Because He chose our very best. --Dorothea K. Barwick

CLEANING YOUR GRAVESITES AFTER MEMORIAL DAY. After June 9 th, the caretaker will remove all flowers not in permanent flower stands & any other items not in approved containers. If you have questions, please see #3, #5, and #6 below. All of these interfere with the safe operation of the lawnmower. Please adhere to these rules. The groundskeeper will remove any that are not in compliance. Introduction to the Cemetery Rules and Regulations: Often, when we are grieving, we cannot find words to express our losses. We have many ways other than words; for example, we place flowers at our loved ones gravesites. Then we take time to be quiet, reflective and allow a tear or two to flow to relieve our sadness. Our cemetery committee and workers are very aware of this and try to be sensitive to the placement of flowers and mementoes when mowing, cleaning and repairing our cemetery. Sometimes our floral decorations deteriorate or, if they are artificial, they can cause damage to the cemetery equipment. Could you help us keep our beautiful cemetery well maintained and suitable for prayerful and reflective visits, please? You may not be aware of our Cemetery Rules and Regulations regarding times and occasions of clean-up, etc. We include them below so that we can be sensitive to all. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From the Calvary Cemetery Rules and Regulations: LANDSCAPING, PLANTING, AND FLORAL REGULATIONS 1. No trees, shrubbery, plants or flowers shall be planted in or transplanted into the Cemetery for decorative, memorial or any other purposes whatsoever, except by the cemetery management. Any of the above so planted will be removed by the cemetery caretaker. 2. Small bronze vases are permitted, but these must be set in cement at the same time as the marker. The cement collar will also extend three (3) inches around the base of the vase and will be part of the marker foundation. One vase will be allowed for individual markers and two for double markers. Vases may be used around monuments also. 3. Vases, urns, flower pots, plants, boxes, glass jars, cans, etc. will not be permitted on lots or graves, except that these or other appropriate decorations may be placed on lots or graves, (but not set into the ground), for Memorial Day or for such special occasions as may be designated by the cemetery management. However, all such containers and all other decorations must be removed within ten (10) days following Memorial Day or other designated occasions, after which the cemetery caretaker will dispose of all those remaining except all so-called permanent type urns or plant holders which must be incorporated within the wash of the monument or marker. 4. A three (3) day limit after each burial when all bouquets, decorations, etc. shall be removed from the grave. 5. Local cemetery management will not be liable for floral pieces, baskets, misplaced or broken flower vases or flag standards or other forms of memorials or decorations. 6. The cemetery management/caretaker will remove all floral designs, flowers (natural or artificial), or decorations of any kind from the cemetery grounds as soon as, in their judgment, these plantings and arrangements have become unsightly, dangerous, detrimental, or do not conform to the regulations. 7. No objects under 3/8 in diameter are to be placed in the ground. Special Collection Coming Next week our parish will take up the Collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC). This Collection communicates the Gospel through Catholic social media activities and enriches our faith through Internet, television, radio, and print media. Half of all proceeds remain in our diocese and support local needs, so please be generous in this collection. CCC equips us to share our experi-ence of faith, worship, and witness with the world.

Stewardship In today's gospel we go back in time to listen to Jesus as he gives instructions at the Last Supper. His words speak to all of us as he is preparing us to be sent out into the world to proclaim his Good News. The gift of the Holy Spirit is poured out upon the entire community of faith to do this work, not just a few. No one is to be excluded. Are we inclusive of everyone in our community? Are there those we choose to exclude because we don't like them? In the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, what do we intend to do about it?
