St. Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois page 2 From the Pastor The parishioners are grateful to all who organized and in any way helped us to celebrate Mother s Day last weekend and our graduations for both the Senior Class and the 8 th Graders. I m sure the Catechists, walkers, monitors, early morning greeters everyone involved with our Religious Ed program at all levels including junior high and senior high - are at least as happy as the students that vacation time is here. The change of pace is good for all of us! Thank you very much for contributing your time and energy for the good of the program. God bless and reward you. It was brought to my attention at a baseball game this week that a group of young girls, possibly 6 th grade, ran right across the street to get over to T-Town Treats one afternoon. Not one of the girls looked for traffic in either direction! PLEASE remind your children over and over: be safe. Watch the road. With the end of school, more children will be on the sidewalks, driveways and streets. As drivers, we need to be vigilant. At our staff meeting this week it was noted that we haven t had a a funeral for a few weeks!! And this month alone we have at least 9 baptisms 4 of them this Saturday after Mass. I think we are going to be placing a limit on the number of baptisms at one time. The Franciscans will be going to their Chapter in St. Louis the week of 18 June. The church will be secured all day every day that week in order to be deeply and thoroughly cleaned. The Wednesday evening group will still be allowed access for praying the rosary, and the Secular Franciscans will be allowed to meet on 20 June. There will not be any Masses that week in church. As we get nearer to the time, more specifics will be mentioned. Memorial Day Mass Monday, May 29 am St. Francis Cemetery Protecting God s Children session will be held at Sacred Heart Parish Center on June 19 th at 6:00 pm. All persons in any church ministry are asked to take a couple of hours and be trained in the signs of potential abuse to watch for in order to keep our vulnerable population safe: elderly, mentally challenged and children. Reminder: Up-dated background check forms were due the 15 th. Please complete and return to the parish office. Thank you. The Year of Grace Always be ready. With the newly baptized and received still in our midst, what do we profess today? 1. We are not orphans, left on our own. 2. The Risen Christ is still with us in Word proclaimed, in Eucharist eaten, in the power of the Spirit. In light of this, St. Peter reminds us of faithful behavior. Always ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope, but do it with gentleness and reverence What is the reason for my hope? How will I be gentle? To whom? How will I treat someone with reverence today? Thank you and Happy Retirement Sr. Christina! Sr. Christina has taught in our public school and our religious education for 40 years. Thank you for your dedication to our parish and community. Receptions will be held in St. Clare Hall after 4:30 pm Mass on Saturday, May 27th and after 10:30 am Mass on May 28th. Refreshments will be served. This is a great opportunity to say thank you and happy retirement to Sr. Christina. St. Francis of Assisi Parish Teutopolis, Illinois page 4 RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS Grade School All Parents Thanks for all your cooperation and help this year in the religious education program. The new edition of religion books which the children received this year has a very important Question and Answer section on p. 273. This page would be good for the children to review during the Summer and will be useful in the years ahead. Also, there is a Glossary Section on p. 267 in the books. We are all called to disciple one another, which is the thrust of this fourth synod of our diocese. We are all challenged to Know our Faith; Live our Faith; Love our Faith; Share our Faith; Show the Joy of our faith! May you have time this summer to include these challenges in your Summer plans! Grade 2 Parents Children who have been signed up to participate in the Corpus Christi Mass and outdoor procession on Sunday, June 18, during the l0:30 Mass have received a letter giving details regarding their participation. If any parents still wish to have their children participate in the Corpus Christi procession, even though the children have not practiced, may still call 857-6477 any time within the next 4 weeks and leave information on our voice mail. You will receive the information needed by mail or a phone call. Remember the Mass time has been changed this year to l0:30. Thanks for considering! 1st Communion videos should be in soon. We will call you when they are ready. Help needed for next school year We have three parishioners who, after teaching 25 years, 27 years, and 35 years in the religion program, are looking for someone to take their places this coming year.
