JBQ Lesson 8 Quizzer Name: Punishment & A Promise

God Establishes His Covenant Topic: Creation & the Early Years 13 8 Lesson Bible Fact-Pak Questions 27, 28, 257, 278 320, 346, 441 PUNISHMENT & A PROMISE Scripture references: Genesis 3:15,21; 4:1 8; Romans 5:12; 6:23; 8:18-23 1. The Punishment (Death) Before Adam sinned, when God s world was perfect, there was no death. Then Adam and Eve sinned. The Bible says death is the punishment for sin (Romans 6:23). When Adam sinned, he brought the punishment of death into the world. What is death? Do you know anyone who has died? Death is what happens when the soul leaves the body. The soul will live forever, but the body dies. After Adam sinned, his body was no longer perfect. He would not live forever. His body would grow old and die. The same would happen to all the living things of God s creation. Animals would grow old and die too. All of God s perfect creation was changed. Death would come to everyone (Romans 5:12). Sin began to grow in the world. The first two brothers, Adam s sons Cain and Abel, were affected by sin. Cain grew jealous and killed Abel. Cain was the first murderer. BFP: 27, 28, 278, 441 2. The Promise (Life) Because of Adam s sin, God s creation was no longer perfect. Every person born after Adam would sin. The penalty for sin is death. Every person would have to die. God loved us so much that He made a way for all people to be set free from the punishment for sin death. He gave Adam and Eve a promise that sin and death would be destroyed. This promise shows that God is merciful and willing to forgive people of their sins. God did something that showed His forgiveness of Adam and Eve. He made clothing for them from animal skins (Genesis 3:21). In order to do this, He had to kill an animal. The animal took the punishment of death that Adam s sin had brought upon him. What God did was meant to help us understand what Jesus would do. When Jesus died on the cross, He took the punishment for our sin. The garments God made for Adam and Eve were a picture lesson of forgiveness and salvation. God gave His Son as a gift so those who believe in Him could have eternal life. One day, Jesus will come again. Then our bodies will be changed, and we will live with God forever. It will be a perfect world again, the way God intended it to be. Adam brought the punishment of death to all people; Jesus brings the promise of eternal life to everyone who believes. BFP: 257, 320, 346

How did sin enter the world? How did death enter the world? If death came as a result of Adam s sin, could anything have died before Adam sinned? In what ways does the world today suffer the consequences of sin and death? In what ways does the world today experience the blessing of God s promise? According to Romans 5:12, sin and death come to all people because of the action of one man (Adam). How does the gift of eternal life come to all people? (Read Romans 5:18,19.)
