Choose a method that works best for your church.** Unit 1, Session 1: God Created the World (Christ Connection Characters) Jesus is Lord over everything. Everything was created by Him and for Him. Jesus holds everything together. #thegospelprojectkids (Content Characters) In the beginning, God made the world out of nothing. God His glory. #thegospelprojectkids The Bible says that Jesus is Lord over all of creation. Everything was created by Him and for Him. The Son has always existed, and He holds everything together. (Colossians 1:16-17) Unit 1, Session 1: God Created the World Thank you for beginning this journey of The Gospel Project for Kids. This week began a three-year chronological study of Scripture. Every story in the Bible is a small piece of a much bigger story God s redemptive story. Sin would enter the world and affect everything, but God already had a plan to show His grace to people through His Son (2 Tim. 1:9). The Bible says that God began His plan to rescue people from sin before He even created the world! (Eph. 1:4-6) In today s Bible story, children learned that God created the world out of nothing. Every wonderful and beautiful thing God created, He spoke into existence. God His glory. Jesus was present at creation, and all things were created through Him and for Him. (Col. 1:16-17) God made everything. Everything God made was good. God is in charge of everything He made. the God created everything. God created everything for His glory. 2 interact with the Bible content each week. Unit 1, Session 2: God Created People (Christ Connection Characters) God sent Jesus to show us exactly what God is like. (Col. 1:15) Jesus is exactly like God because He is God. #thegospelprojectkids (Content Characters) God made people different than anything else He made. God made men and women in His own image for #thegospelprojectkids God created people in His own image. Adam was like God in some ways, but he was not exactly like God. God sent His Son, Jesus, to show us exactly what God is like. (Colossians 1:15) Jesus is exactly like God because He is God. (Hebrews 1:3) Unit 1, Session 2: God Created People This week in The Gospel Project for Kids, your kids learned that God create people in a unique way. Human beings were set apart as different from the rest of God s creation. God did not breathe into the animals. He skillfully formed man out of dust as a potter forms a pot out of clay. (See Isa. 64:8.) God breathed into the man s nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature. (Gen. 2:7) Then God made woman from the man s rib. She was a suitable helper for him. Both man and woman were created in God s image. The first man, Adam, and the first woman, Eve, lived in the garden and enjoyed God s friendship. Help your children understand that being made in God s image means we are made like Him, or patterned after Him. God does not have a physical body; He is Spirit, and He has given each of us a spirit. God gives people the ability to think and to feel emotions and to make choices. He gives us the ability to understand right and wrong. God created people in His own image (Gen. 1:26) and for His glory (Isa. 43:7). God made people, and God loves people. God made people in His likeness. God is in charge of everything He made. the God created people in His own image. God created people in His own image; God created them male and female.

Unit 1, Session 3: Sin Entered the World (Christ Connection Characters) Sin keeps us from God, but it won t keep God from us. God sent Jesus to rescue us from sin and bring us back to God. #thegospelprojectkids (Content Characters) Everything changed after Adam and Eve sinned. Sin separated Adam and Eve from God. God sent them out of the garden. #thegospelprojectkids After Adam and Eve, everybody has sinned. Sin keeps us from God, but it won t keep God from us. He loves us anyway, and He promised that someone from Eve s family would take away sin. God sent His Son, Jesus, to rescue people from sin and bring them back to God. Unit 1, Session 3: Sin Entered the World Thank you for continuing this journey of The Gospel Project for Kids. Today s Bible story takes us back to the garden of Eden. Before the fall, Adam and Eve enjoyed a loving, two-way relationship with God. The garden was a true paradise. God filled the garden with good gifts so that they might enjoy them and give thanks to God. The Lord gave them only one restriction: You must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and the punishment was severe: You will certainly die (Gen. 2:17). Adam and Eve believed the serpent s lie, and they sinned. Because of their sin, God cast them out of the garden. Though they did not die right away, sin s effect was immediate and thorough. Their lives and their children s lives and the lives of all of mankind would be forever affected by their choice. As your kids become increasingly aware of the bad news that we are all sinners from birth rejoice with them over the good news: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (1 Tim. 1:15).

5 Unit 1, Session 4: Cain and Abel (Christ Connection Characters) Cain was not the Savior. He was a sinner, like Adam and Eve. At the right time, God sent Jesus to rescue sinners. #thegospelprojectkids (Content Characters) God warned Cain against sin, but Cain did not listen and killed Abel. Cain s sin separated him from God and people. #thegospelprojectkids God had promised that someone from Eve s family would take away sin. Cain was not that person. He was sinful like Adam and Eve. So people waited for God to keep His promise. At just the right time, God would send His Son, Jesus, to rescue sinners. Unit 1, Session 4: Cain and Abel Thank you for continuing this journey of The Gospel Project for Kids. Today s Bible story shows how deeply sin infected Adam and Eve s children. Imagine Adam and Eve s joy as their family grew. With each birth, maybe Eve hoped that this son would be the one to end the curse of sin, to crush the head of the snake. (Gen. 3:15) But as her sons Cain and Abel grew up, she and Adam probably witnessed with grief how sin affects their own children. Cain was not the Promised One, and neither was Abel. Out of jealousy and anger, Cain killed Abel. God punished Cain by sending him away to wander the earth. Some time later, Eve gave birth to another son. She named this baby Seth. Seth was not the Promised One either, but Jesus would come from Seth s descendants. (See Luke 3:23-38.) Every baby was born a sinner like his parents and like Adam and Eve. At just the right time, God would send His Son to be born to save sinners. (Heb. 11:13; Gal. 4:4) God always keeps His promises.

7 Unit 1, Session 5: Noah and the Ark (Christ Connection Characters) God rescued Noah and his family. Later, there was an even greater rescue! Jesus came to save people from sin. #thegospelprojectkids (Content Characters) God created people, but they didn t want to know or obey Him. God punished sin but showed mercy to Noah. #thegospelprojectkids God sent a flood to punish the world for sin, but God rescued Noah and his family. Later, there was an even greater rescue! Jesus came to save people from sin. If we trust in Jesus, He saves us from the punishment for our sin. Unit 1, Session 5: Noah and the Ark Thank you for continuing this journey of The Gospel Project for Kids. Today s Bible story is about Noah and the ark. By the time Noah lived 10 generations after Adam people had stopped following God. In fact, Scripture describes the terrible situation: Man s wickedness was widespread on the earth every scheme his mind thought of was nothing but evil all the time (Gen. 6:5). God was right to punish this sin. He decided to send a flood to cover the earth and destroy everything. God graciously chose to save one man and his family, so he warned Noah about the flood and told him to build an ark. When the ark was complete, God s judgment did come. The floodwaters covered the earth. Every living thing was destroyed, but Noah and his family were safe inside the ark. God rescued Noah s family the family His own Son would be born into. Jesus would warn of God s coming judgment too, but instead of condemning the world, Jesus would give up His life to rescue sinners. Pray that the Lord would help you clearly communicate the gospel to your children. Pray that the Holy Spirit would lead them to receive Jesus, who rescues us from God s anger toward sin. (1 Thess. 1:10)

9 Unit 1, Session 6: The Tower of Babel (Christ Connection Characters) God mixed up the people s language and scattered them. One day, people from every language will worship Jesus. #thegospelprojectkids (Content Characters) By confusing their words, God made the people do just what He had told them to do. They spread out over the earth. #thegospelprojectkids People chose to make themselves famous instead of God. They ignored God and did not do what He wanted them to do. God mixed up their language and spread out the people all over the earth. One day, Jesus will bring His people back together. People from every group and every language will worship Him together. (Revelation 7:9-10) Unit 1, Session 6: The Tower of Babel Thank you for continuing this journey of The Gospel Project for Kids. Today s Bible story is about the tower of Babel. Following the flood, God wanted to have a fresh start. God commanded Noah in Genesis 9:1 to Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth. In Genesis 11:2, Scripture indicates that instead of filling the earth as God commanded, the people built a city and a large tower into the heavens. The people didn t want to be scattered. They didn t believe God would give them what was good if they obeyed Him. They sought to obtain for themselves what they believed was good. The people tried to build a monument with its top in the heavens, but they succeeded only in separating themselves from God and from each other. God confused their language and scattered them over the earth. They were unable to finish building the city, so the city was called Babel which sounds like the Hebrew word for confused because there the Lord confused the people s language. Teach your kids about God s better plan: His plan not for people to reach up to Him, but His plan to reach down to people by sending His Son, Jesus, to live the perfect life we couldn t live and die the death we don t want to die. That is the gospel.

10 God made people to love Him. God mixed up the people s words so they would move all over the world. One day, Jesus will bring people together again. the breaking God s law. God created people to give Him glory. breaking God s law, and sin separates people from God. God created people to give glory to Him alone.
