Knight Times Monthly Newsletter of the Great 799 June 2013 Volume 110, Issue 6 Dallas Council 799 Knights of Columbus 10110 Shoreview Road Dallas, Texas 75238 Chaplain s Message By Fr. Josef Vollmer-König Dear Brother Knights: We have just completed the Easter season with the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord, the Feast of Pentecost and the Feast of the Holy Trinity. We heard the instructions the Apostles received, Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. These instructions also are directed to all of us. On the Feast of Pentecost we are reminded of the gift of the Holy Spirit, the fulfillment of the promise our Lord made to His Disciples and to us: And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you always, the Spirit of truth. (John 14:16) The Apostles were given the Holy Spirit with His gifts of Wisdom, Understanding, Counsel, Fortitude, Courage, Knowledge, Piety and Fear of the Lord to guide them. These Gifts are ours. Through our Baptism and Confirmation we became followers, disciples of Our Lord. Reflecting on these feasts, we, the followers of Christ, are sent to proclaim the Gospel and we receive the help we need to accomplish this mission. We are called to be witnesses to the world, beginning with our families. Mr. Charles Mwaniki Githinji will be ordained to the priesthood by The Most Reverend Bishop Kevin J. Farrell at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. The Cathedral is located at 2215 Ross Ave, Dallas, TX 75231. A reception follows in the Cathedral Grand Salon. Upon ordination, Father Charles will be assigned to St. Patrick's Catholic Church. He will celebrate his first mass at Noon on Sunday, June 2 at St. Pat's. A reception follows that mass. A dinner honoring Fr. Charles will be held at 799 on Saturday, June 1 at 6:30 p.m. All knights and their families are invited to participate in any and all of these functions.

For These We Pray Please pray for our members and their family members with chronic or serious ailments, as well as the souls of our departed Brothers. Prayer List Pope Francis Most Reverend Charles Grahmann Charles Mohrle Michael Shaw Frank Campisi SK Charles D. Mohrle passed away on Tuesday, May 7th at the age of 92. Charlie was a Knight for almost 67 years, and a member of the Father Abram J. Ryan Assembly. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 1 in Galveston and attained the rank of Eagle Scout. He completed 97 combat missions flying a P-47 and was highly decorated. Following his military service he worked in the property and casualty insurance business where he met his future wife, Dorothy Onley. They were married in 1948 at Cathedral Guadalupe. Charlie entered a new career as a commercial artist, studio owner, and ultimately partner in a local advertising agency. If you know of deaths or major illnesses of Knights or their family members, please contact: Frank Gray, (214) 328-4935 Or prayers@kc799.org The Knights of Columbus offers a wide range of products suited for the needs of our Members. Call our Field Agent: John Shaver (214) 244-9148 Chaplain s Message Contd. The month of June gives us as Knights many opportunities for reflection. We celebrate the Feasts of Corpus Christi and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The saints we remember during the month are great examples for us. A few of these are St Norbert, St. Barnabas, and Sts. Peter and Paul. Read about the lives of the saints. On June 16 we celebrate Father s Day. We give thanks for the gift of our family and the trust God shows us. Being a Catholic dad is a great privilege and responsibility. How can we live up to this responsibility? Teach by example. Here are some ideas: Go to Sunday Mass as a family and dress as if you were going to a wedding. Let your children see you pray. Pray with them. Turn of the TV and dust off your Bible and let your children read to you. Spend quality time with them. The time you spend with your family is worth more than the things we give them. Celebrate your children s achievements. Listen to them. As you make vacation plans, be safe and make sure Sunday Mass is in your plan. Have an enjoyable summer. God s blessings, Fr. Josef Grand Knight s Letter By Mike Hill Greetings to my Brother Knights: Service. It s what we as Knights do. We are constantly trying to help those in need. It can come in many forms fix-it projects, cooking meals or raising money for those less fortunate than us to name just a few. For most, it s a part-time endeavor and we should be proud of our efforts. However, what is most impressive are those in the community who give their entire lives in service to the community. It s our bishops, priests and nuns led by Pope Francis. We have the rare opportunity June 1 to celebrate one our own brothers taking the next step in a lifetime of service. Deacon Charles Mwaniki Githinji will be ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe by Brother Knight Bishop Kevin J. Farrell. Many of you have witnessed the passion of Deacon Charles both at 799 and at St. Patrick s, where he has been and will be assigned. Let s make sure we are out in full force in 799 colors supporting our Brother and keeping him in our prayers. Likewise, let s continue to pray for our Brothers down in West, TX and add those affected by the tornado in Moore, OK. For the Memorial Day weekend, we donated all the tip money collected by the Poolside Grill Teams to the victims of these events. Fraternally, Mike Hill Grand Knight Knights of Columbus - Dallas Council 799 Page 2

Knights on Bikes West, TX Ride Recap Blood Drive June 15 th The other day an EF5 tornado ripped through Moore Oklahoma. At last count 24 were killed and 240 were injured. Some of us cried, some of us sent money and all of us wondered what we could do to help. Every day in Dallas there is an equivalent of almost 5 times that tragic count that needs blood to live. Summer is one of the times of greatest need for blood. Please remember that the people benefitting from this drive are loved ones in this community and your help is needed. Please copy and paste the following link into your address bar: ww2.greatpartners.org/donor/sche dules/drive_schedule/41401 and schedule a time for your donation. As always walk-ins are welcome. The reason for giving blood is the same reason as your need for blood. It starts with your heart. Please call Tim King at 214-536-0288 with any questions. The Texas Knights on Bikes ride to West, TX for fellow Knight and West volunteer firefighter Joseph F Joey Pustejovsky was a great success. In the picture above are Joey's mom, dad, cousin Jeff and his daughter along with Kelly Pustejovsky, Joey's wife. Knights on Bikes from Austin, Galveston-Houston, Beaumont, Dallas and Ft Worth, along with some other riders, managed to give Kelly close to $4,000. In all, 31 bikers participated and made quite an impression on the locals. Knights of Columbus - Dallas Council 799 Page 4
