Thus he does not lose his divinity when he teaches us humility... What great thing was it to the king of the ages to become the king of humanity? For Christ was not the king of Israel so that he might exact a tax or equip an army with weaponry and visibly vanquish an enemy. He was the king of Israel in that he rules minds, in that he gives counsel for eternity, in that he leads into the kingdom of heaven for those who believe, hope, and love. It is a condescension, not an advancement for one who is the Son of God, equal to the Father, the Word through whom all things were made, to become king of Israel. It is an indication of pity, not an increase in power." Veneration of the Holy Rood on Good Friday Our main cross, or rood, has been modified so it can be lowered and raised on its supporting cables. This will allow us to bring down the cross for the Veneration of the Cross on Good Friday. Recent liturgy documents from the Church suggest that the cross which is most visible to the congregation be selected for veneration. Its weight and dimensions will require several adults to process it into the church and arrange it for veneration on Good Friday. Since we have been praying with the image of this cross in our minds and hearts, its use on Good Friday should add immeasurably to the reverence and prayerfulness of the veneration. Good Friday Services begin at 2:30 PM with contemplative strings and 3:00 PM liturgy. While it has been customary to observe silence on Good Friday, it seems very difficult to gather people in silence. The peaceful music settles everyone and predisposes to silent meditation. Please join us on Good Friday. Faith Seeking Understanding Join us this Wednesday, March 23rd for our final Lenten Adult Formation Meeting at 7:00 PM in the St. Joseph Meeting Room, lower level of the church, the subject will be The Passion Narrative According to Luke, assignment: preface, pp 105-160.

Make time for one or all of the very beautiful and spiritually enriching liturgies of the Triduum. Please help us celebrate the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday, March 24th at 7:00 PM in the Church. The Men s Group will be meeting on Thursday, April 7, with a video presentation on the topic: The Triumph of Mercy. The goal is to help us trust in the mercy of God and see that it is made manifest to us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The discussion is intended to help men identify Pope John Paul II as the apostle of mercy and show how he has set us on the course to a merciful encounter with God, and the profound effects of a good confession (in the miracle story). We will also briefly discuss how to have a personal conversation of our experience with the mercy of God, and how we can consider the goodness of God manifest in the establishment of the Sacrament of Confession. The Holy Cross Men s Group provides opportunities for spiritual and personal growth, service to the parish community, and social interaction. Bring A FRIEND!
