Also on the occasion mentioned in our last bulletin, Our Lady revealed to the three children that Francisco must say many Rosaries before he will go to Heaven and that a certain Amelia will be in Purgatory until the end of the world. A NEW STUDY IS GOING TO BEGIN ON FEBRUARY 13TH. It will be an eight week series. The series is narrated by Dr. Edward Sri, who also brought us SYMBOLON. WHY IS MARY SO IMPORTANT TO US? As Catholics, we have a profound reverence for the Blessed Mother. We turn to her in prayer, in the Mass, in the Rosary, and in Marian devotions. We honor her with special feasts celebrating the significant events in her life. We place images of her in our churches and homes. The better we know Mary, the better we will know her Son. Here, Our Lady reiterates the salutary practice of praying the most Holy Rosary as a means to save one s soul and offers it as a guarantee to Francisco s safe passage to Heaven -certainly an invaluable counsel from the Queen of Heaven and Earth. She likewise points out the very reality of the existence of Purgatory and even cites a striking example of a poor yet already saved soul who will endure its purifying fires till the end of the world. According to the research done by Father Sebastião Martins dos Reis, Amelia died under circumstances involving dishonor in matters of chastity. Shocking as this fact may had been to Father Thomas McGlynn, O.P. during his own interview, Sister Lucia recalled that more tragic were those souls who suffered the fires of hell forever because of a single mortal sin! Get ready to take a Biblical Walk with our Blessed Mother. NEW PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS NEEDED TO COMMIT ONE HOUR OF THEIR WEEK TO BE IN THE ADORATION CHAPEL. I want to sign up for Eucharistic Adoration: NAME ADDRESS CITY ZIP PHONE EMAIL PLEASE RETURN VIA MAIL (120 5TH ST. NW, CEDAR RAPIDS, IA 52405) OR DROP IN COLLECTION BASKET AND WE WILL CONTACT YOU. SUPPORT FOR DIVORCED OR DIVORCING CATHOLICS: If you are a Catholic adult who is experiencing divorce, Divorce and Beyond is an opportunity that you might like to consider. Divorce and Beyond is a facilitated, small-group Catholic conversation; a 10-week process of self-healing and support. There will be an informational meeting and registration on Saturday, February 4, 2017 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hiawatha. The 10-week session will begin the following Saturday, February 11, 9:00-10:30 AM also at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Hiawatha. For information about the program you may contact a parish representative: Mary Pat Esch (SPX): marypatesch@gmail.com, Dwayne Farmer (SPX) brickpoppa@hotmail.com, Linda Sadler (SEAS) Lsadler616@gmail.com, Cate Biro (AS) Catie22001@yahoo.com, Jeannie Waite (St.L) waitejm@hotmail.com, Cathy Wobbe (St.J) Cathy.wobbe@stjoesmarion.org or call one of these parish offices: St. Pius X, 393-4445; St. Elizabeth, 393-3778; St. Ludmila, 362-7282; St. Joseph, 377-4869 or St. Matthew, 363-8269. *Divorce and Beyond is offered with approval and support of the Archdiocese of Dubuque. 3

GRIEF AND LOSS A CATHOLIC BEREAVEMENT PROGRAM: Grief is a normal response to the loss of someone important to us and can feeling like a roller coaster ride that impacts your feelings, thoughts, physical sensations, behaviors and spiritually. If you have lost someone and would like to join others in faith filled, guided discussions, you are invited to register for the upcoming Grief and Loss session that will be held here at St. Patrick beginning January 13 th and ending February 17 th. The group will meet on Thursday afternoons, 1:30 3:00, in the Adult Education Wing. We ask that participants allow at least 6 months since their loss before attending. Registration forms can be found on the church bulletin boards, on the parish web site, or contact Penny Ackerman at the parish office. We are reforming THE LITURGY COMMITTEE and are looking for parish representation. The Liturgy Committee is a standing committee of the Parish dedicated to the promotion of active participation in worship. The Mission of the Liturgy Committee is to offer the people of St. Patrick Parish worship experiences which foster a loving relationship with Jesus Christ. We strive for our parish s liturgical prayer life to be reverent, beautiful, and joyful in the Lord. This Committee will meet once a month and meetings will be one hour in length. Faith grows when it is well expressed in celebration. Good celebrations can foster and nourish faith. Poor celebrations may weaken it. Call Cindy at the Parish Office if you would like to be on this Committee. SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE is welcoming new members. Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, encourages us to walk the complementary paths of social justice and charitable works. Our mission is to reach out and respond to the needy and vulnerable in our community, as well as to answer the call to support all aspects of Catholic teaching on social justice. Our next meeting is Monday, January 9th at 6:30 PM in the Conference Room of the Parish Office. Please join us! WE ADORE CHRIST IN THIS PARISH. Please call the Parish Office to schedule an hour with our Lord in EUCHARISTIC ADORATION. PIETRA FITNESS: Start the New Year out right! Join us in the Parish Hall on Monday, at 5PM. Many of us may have already experienced a bout with these illnesses or we know someone of our family or friends who has had them. At this time, as well as any other, it is important to remember good hygiene and to remember good common sense. All of us would do well to remember that frequent cleansing of the hands, either with soap and water or with an alcohol based antibacterial solution, combats the spread or contraction of the cold or flu. This need is especially important for those who minister Holy Communion during the celebration of the Eucharist. Those who are sick with the cold or flu should especially act responsibly. Refraining from taking Holy Communion from the Chalice, sharing the sign of peace with a simple nod of the head and the verbal exchange of Christ s peace instead of shaking hands, and avoiding close contact with others will go a long way in helping prevent the spread of illnesses. 6
