2 Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time June 28, 2015 A Farewell From Father James Merold My Dear People, Endings & Beginnings This week as the month of June comes to a close we observe endings and beginnings as a parish family. As my tenure ends and Father Shawn s begins, our mission in the Kingdom of God continues in an orderly fashion. Yesterday, Father Shawn moved many of his possessions into the Rectory which now becomes his home among us. Rectories have traditionally been the residence-house of pastors so that they may be close to their people. Because of my limited tenure here I decided to continue to live in my house in Waukegan. As of July 1st, Father Shawn becomes the canonical pastor of St. Bede with all of the rights, privileges, and responsibilities that come with that office according to the Canon Law of our Church. Those are specifically described in the Church Canons. As of July 1st we also begin a new fiscal year. A financial budget is in place for our whole parish both Church & School. This year we were advised that while our school will receive a subsidy from the Archdiocese for the upcoming school term, our church will need to break even in its operational endeavors. It then became imperative that both our school and church must trim certain items from our expenses. The school has already begun this process under our retiring principal, Mr. Pinto. That process will continue under our new principal, Mrs. Strang. On the church side I was asked to reduce staff by our Parish Finance Council and the Archdiocese. During the past several weeks I have done just that and trimmed $49,700 from our upcoming budget. These actions are not easy to accomplish, but this needed to be done. One staff position has been eliminated and two more persons have had their hours reduced. I would urge you to take to heart this need for our parish and school to become increasingly financially independent. Please search your hearts through prayer and discern what the Lord is asking you to do each week for the spread of the Kingdom of God in this place. I would also commend to you our Support Our Future Campaign. New fundraising efforts will be presented to you in the near future. Our Music Director, Loretta Jelinek Lieske will be leaving us at the end of the month. She has served our parish well during her 6 years with us. She has introduced us to liturgical music that has expanded our horizons as we join to worship the Lord each week. May the Lord reach out His hand and guide her to sing His praises wherever He leads her. Loretta and I worked together 44 years ago and she directed the choir at my First Mass in 1971. Thank you, Loretta, for everything. Thank you to all who worked and supported our annual Rummage Sale. I was impressed by the efficiency and hard work that so many persons exhibited before, during, and after the Sale. Now, it s on to the preparation for Bede Bash in October. If you haven t already done so, please take an auction item from the Giving Tree located under the windows in the church. We need to complete this part of the event as soon as possible. I know you will be welcoming and hospitable to Father Shawn as he begins his ministry among you this week. I sincerely believe that St. Bede has a great future under his leadership. His pastoral gifts are many and varied. Take advantage of his presence among you. Most importantly, be at Mass each weekend and be united with him at the great Sacrament of the Altar. Nothing is more supportive to a priest than to look at the congregation from the altar and see his people united in prayer with him. During the next two weeks I will be present occasionally to lead worship and to assist. After I leave here I will be assisting at several parishes each week. I will be presiding at Mass and assisting with sacramental work. I will take all of you with me in my heart and remember you in prayer. I ask that you do the same for me. In Christ, Father Jim Merold

St. Bede Church Ingleside, IL 5 Would you like to help us out with this Year s Bede Bash? It s simple Just take a leaf or two from our Giving Tree branches along the walls of the church and purchase the item listed on the leaf... Our Annual Auction and Dinner Fundraiser this year is scheduled for October 17th, 2015 at Maravela's Banquet Hall in Fox Lake. This year's theme is a "Magical Evening. As one of our biggest fundraisers we look to our parishioners and surrounding businesses to donate items or give a cash gift to purchase items to be auctioned off. Each year we place giving branches along the walls of the church with leaves on them. Each leaf represents an item to be donated that will be part of the auction. Our auction totally depends on these donations so please take a leaf or two and help make this our best auction ever! To achieve our goal we need both small items (small leaves) and larger more expensive items (large leaves). The larger items bring a greater rate of return and help us make our goal a lot easier. A lot of time and effort go into this fundraiser each year and the money goes totally toward the needs of the school and church. The evening is not only an auction but it is also an evening of fun, special events, outstanding buffet dinner, live music for our entertainment and dancing, etc. Please consider helping us through your generous donations and of course your presence on October 17th, 2015. Your items may be dropped off in Coleman Hall and placed on the designated table for Bede Bash donations. Thank you for your participation! CRHP! (Christ Renews His Parish) WOMEN of St. Bede save the date! There will be another uplifting, fun, and relaxing CRHP Women s Spiritual Retreat on the weekend of October 24 & 25, 2015 at St. Bede Faith Formation Center. The cost is free and spending the night is encouraged but not required. Call Jane at the rectory at 847-587-2251 and ask to be included or email Gloria at gtcharland@gmail.com to register or for more information. Families and the Gospel Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Mark 5:21-34) The healing of the woman and the child in today s gospel is a reminder we are all wounded. We retreat to those we love looking for acceptance, listening, understanding and support. Families must be healing communities where Jesus is present in our care for one another. St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Our current Food Pantry needs: Canned Soup, Chili, Beef Stew, Mac & Cheese Just a reminder that the needy in our community depend on your donations. The St. Vincent de Paul poor boxes are located at the exits of the church. Thank you!
