Short story essay; Day 105; Partners Peer Editing Essay tuesday.hicks@yahoo.com Grace Literature and Composition Tuesday 28 Nov. 2017 Olivia for President The room was neat and organized, the sun shining through her windows. Next to her was a snack. In front of her are some books. Olivia Ross was in her room doing her English homework. So far she was doing a good job, she just had to finish this paragraph and she would be done with her essay. But before she could, her mom, Madison Ross, called her for dinner. She went to the kitchen. Before she could sit down, her sister Maya started complaining about her annoying friends and loud class. Olivia hates hearing about that stuff, it makes me upset about unpeaceful and horrible the world can be sometimes. Then, her dad Cory Ross came in and sat down and told us about his day at work, he is a cab driver. We said the blessing and started eating, it is pizza night. Pizza Night, Olivia says. This is amazing, Thank you Maddie, says Dad Your welcome says Mom. Olivia says. When she finished her pizza she went to the pantry grabbed an after dinner snack and went to her room to finish her essay. The next day she went to her locker grabbed her stuff, met up with her friends, Sophie Robinson and Alexa Jones and went to first period together. Her first period

Pg. 2 class is Biology and is pretty tough sometimes. Mrs. Simmons is really nice but when she s upset she can go a bit crazy when she is in a bad mood or when someone is being mean or disrespectful. She is nice most of the time though. After the next few classes, Olivia and her friends go to lunch, but on the way there they see a poster advertising the election for student body president. Olivia, you should totally run you are a great leader, an amazing problem solver, and a you have wonderful ideas you would make a spectacular president, said Alexa Alexa is right, you would be the perfect choice for the office. said Sophie. You know what, I think I will, said Olivia. Then they went to lunch and filled their plates. Then they find an election sign-up sheet at a window in the cafeteria and Olivia signed it, immediately after she put her plate on the table. Only it looks like someone else had already signed up, Emma Matthews. Emma is the human splinter of New York City High. She is always causing trouble and always needs to be the center of attention. She goes back to her table and starts eating. Guess who s running against me for student body president, Olivia says. Who, Sophie says. Emma Matthews, says Olivia. Ugh, Emma, she s always out get everyone. Its as if everything has to be about her, says Alexa. I know that is why I need to win the election, New York City High deserves a better leader than her. Plus someone should finally show her that being a leader is so much more than using all the school s money to throw parties all the time. said Olivia

Pg. 3 You re right it is about time someone taught her a lesson, said Sophie Let s get together and make campaign posters at my house. If I m going to win this election, I m going to need your help, Olivia said. Great says Sophie. I m there says Alexa. Awesome, Well we should get to class. The bell is going to ring any minute now, says Olivia. That afternoon they all came at Olivia s house and made campaign posters. Hi Mrs. Ross, says Sophie and Alexa. Hi girls, Olivia told me she was running for student body president, and that she invited you two to help her make her campaign posters. says Mrs. Ross. Yes mam, says Sophie. Well Olivia s in her room finishing her homework. She should be done in a few minutes. Why don t you girls wait here. I ll have her come out when she s done, says Mrs. Ross. Yes ma am, says Sophie and Alexa. A few minutes later, Olivia comes out of her room. Ready to get to work. says Olivia. Yes, said Sophie and Alexa. They found some poster board, paint, and markers and started making posters. They drew pictures of Olivia and wrote slogans like Vote for Olivia she will make this school a better place to be, and Vote for Olivia she will make our school take off, These are amazing with these on the school hallway there is no way you can lose, said Alexa She is right these posters will show everyone that you are the perfect president, said Sophie. We should go home, we don t want to be late for dinner, said Alexa. Bye girls I ll see you tomorrow, said Olivia. See you later, Olivia, said Sophie

Pg. 4 and Alexa. Time for dinner, says Mrs. Ross. What are we having Mom, said Olivia. Lasagna, said Mrs. Ross. Then came Mr. Ross and Maya and they say the blessing and eat. Mom, Dad, How was your day? said Olivia. It was great, honey, The next day Olivia and her friends go to school early and hang up her campaign posters. But it turns out Emma has decided to do the same. Well, Well, Well what do we have here, three losers who think they have a chance of beating me in the election. When I ve already got this in the bag, says Emma. What makes you say that, Emma, says Olivia. Well I ve decided to give everyone a free cupcake everyday. I ve said so on my campaign posters. Take a look, Emma said. The posters said things like Vote for Emma and get a free cupcake every day, and Vote for Emma and get a free T-shirt of your choice, Your Bribing people to vote for you, that is low. said Olivia. You have to do what you have to do to win, and I m going to win, said Emma. Well I m going to make sure we have special church services every morning at 7:00am, bring praying back into the school and all the money left in the school budget will go to charity. Are you going to do any good for the school and community, said Olivia. Well I am going to replace every class with a party and give visitors an extra piece of cake. said Emma. That is the best you ve got. You re toast, Matthews. said Olivia. Whatever you ve got to tell yourself, Ross said Emma. We should get to class, if I get one more tardy this week, I m toast, said Alexa. That afternoon they got together at Olivia s house to come up with some more campaign ideas. We ve got to beat the heck out of Emma, she s going to turn the school

Pg. 5 into a night club, said Alexa. She is going to fill everyone up on sugar, seriously does she care about health, said Sophie. More reasons why I need to win, if she becomes president, she s going to ruin the school, said Olivia. Then what should we do, said Sophie. I ve got it. We shoot a campaign video. Olivia can tell everything she wants to do for the school and how it will improve once she s president, says Alexa. That is a great idea, Alexa, said Sophie Yeah, you and I can star in it and Alexa can direct. Let s do it, said Olivia. Mom can I borrow your video camera to use for our campaign video? said Olivia. Sure, just be careful it is very fragile. said Mrs. Ross. Yes ma am and Thank you, said Olivia. Your welcome said Mrs Ross. Alexa says, We re rolling in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, Hello, this is Olivia Ross and I m running for student body president. My good friend Sophie Robinson and I are going to tell you why I d be the best choice for the office. You see not many people have been saved or found out who Jesus really is. I would make sure everyone does by having church services at the gym every Tuesday morning at 7:00 am. There will be a special preacher there every week, that way we will have a variety of different testimonies and points of view of God s word, said Olivia. Olivia will also allow 10 minutes of prayer time from 8:10 am to 8:20 am, that way everyone would be able to have prayer in their lives all of the time no matter where they are. Whatever money we have in the school s budget that we have leftover will go to charity, said Sophie.

Pg. 6 We will find ways to improve everything we do at New York City High School. I am Olivia Ross and I approve this message, said Olivia. Cut, Awesome job girls. Once this gets onto the school website, Emma won t stand a chance, said Alexa. Great, Alexa. Mom can you help us get this video onto the school website after dinner, said Olivia. Sure, said Mrs. Ross. We told our parents this might take a while so they gave us permission to stay for dinner. But we have to be home by 7:00 pm, said Sophie. Great, Mom do we have enough for 2 more. said Olivia Sure, good thing there are always leftovers. I ll get the guest chairs. said Mrs. Ross. Maya and Mr. Ross came to the table. Once everyone had their plates full of chicken tenders, fruit salad, green beans and peas they said the blessing and ate. Mom, Dad how was work today? said Olivia Great said Mr. and Mrs. Ross. How was school today girls? said Mr. Ross. Great, Mom, said Maya. Not the best, said Olivia. What is the matter sweetie? said Mrs. Ross. You see Emma Matthews is running against me for student body president. She is going to ruin the school if she wins the election. This morning we got to school early to hang up campaign posters, but it turns out Emma decided to do the same. It looks like she is bribing everyone in order to get them to vote for her. We made a campaign video to post on the school website, but there is no guarantee it is going to be enough. She will do whatever it takes to win including dirty tricks and she will stop at nothing to make sure I drop out of the election, said Olivia.

Pg. 7 Don t worry, after all everyone sitting at this table is here for you and soon the rest of the school will too. We will help you with whatever you need. Just remember, don t give up, believe in yourself, do what Jesus would do, and grow and find out who you are. Then you can t go wrong, says Mr. Ross. Thanks Dad, says Olivia. Are you ready to post the campaign video on the school website, Olivia, said Mrs. Ross. Yes ma am, Ready girls, said Olivia. Ready Olivia, said Alexa and Sophie. Goodnight Maya, I ll see you in the morning, said Olivia Goodnight Olivia and good luck, said Maya. Thank you, Maya, said Olivia. You re welcome, said Maya. Olivia, Sophie, Alexa and Mrs. Ross went to the living room. They grabbed the video camera and the computer so they could put the campaign video on the school website. First we plug the video camera into the computer. Then we press the campaign video and save it onto the computer. Next we go to the school website and find a page for campaign videos on the website. Now we will drag the video onto the page. There it is now on the school website where every student can find it, said Mrs Ross. Thank you so much, mom, said Olivia. You re welcome sweetie, You 2 should be getting home it is almost 7:00 and your parents are going to get worried soon said Mrs Ross. Bye girls, said Olivia. Bye Olivia, said Sophie and Alexa. A few days later Olivia and Emma give their campaign speeches and everyone turns in their votes. The girls go into the school website after school to see who won. Emma had stepped up her game and made her own campaign video and gave a pretty good speech.

Pg. 8 No matter what Olivia stayed true to herself, did what she knew Jesus would do, did her best, and didn t give up and she knew that is what was most important. I won, said Olivia after she read her number of votes compared to Emma s number of votes. Congratulations Olivia, said Sophie, Alexa and everyone in her family. We will have hot dogs for dinner and we will go out for ice cream afterwards to celebrate, said Mrs. Ross. Awesome, we will call our parents and ask to see if our families can come too, Olivia and her family and friends had a wonderful time celebrating Olivia s latest victory. Everything was amazing. Soon she would do spectacular things for New York City High. In the meantime she ll be having a great time with her friends and family.
