Website: Saintjanuarius.org E-mail Address: stjanplum@verizon.net December 20, 2015 Fourth Sunday of Advent A NEW ORDER "O, Little Town of Bethlehem." A Philadelphia clergyman named Phillips Brooks penned these popular words back in the mid-1800s, but the prophet Micah could have used them first. Micah knew that from small packages great treasures come. In today's first reading, he knew that from tiny Bethlehem would come the Lord. The writer in Hebrews explains that Christ came to us to do the will of God by establishing a new order and by becoming our perfect sacrifice. And Luke tells us that Elizabeth and John, the infant in her womb, understand that great and wondrous things are at hand with the coming of the Lord. This is the Fourth Sunday of Advent. Soon we celebrate anew the fruit of Mary's womb. As we are told in Hebrews, Jesus' new order is being established even today. And as Micah proclaims, his greatness is reaching even now to the ends of the earth. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co. We are grateful to those who have built up St. Januarius to be a welcoming, active, and spiritual parish. With the Eucharist and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we strive to use the gifts and talents given to us by the Father to support the lives of parishioners at all age levels and stages of life. We also pledge to live our lives so that through our words and actions all may feel the presence of Jesus Christ in the world today.

Page 2 Thank you to everyone who took angels from our annual Giving Tree. Through your concern and generosity, this parish will help those less unfortunate, the homeless and those in transition in the area of Plum Boro. Thank you to the Knights of Columbus for the beautiful Christmas sign which is located at the front of our church. Not only has it been a blessing for our church, but for everyone who travels on Renton Road, they see the beautiful sign and the true message of Christmas. Penance Service will be Monday, December 21 at North American Martyrs from 7-9 pm. Reconciliation will be here on Tuesday, December 22 from 1-3 pm and Wednesday, December 23 from 7-9 pm. Christmas Mass schedules are as follows: Christmas Eve, 4:00 pm and Christmas Day will be at 10:00 am Blessings to you and your families and friends during this season of celebration of the Birth of Jesus Christ. Wishing each and everyone of you a Blessed and Merry Christmas. We are in the early weeks of the Jubilee Year of Mercy called by the Holy Father. The Jubilee Year will last until November 28th next year. Pope Francis has described this year as a favorable time to heal wounds. At the same time, we have begun On Mission for The Church Alive! The goal of On Mission is to help our parishes become even more vibrant communities of service. What social outreach to the community can our parish do that it is not doing now? He became known for his strong support for the Catholic faith during the Protestant Reformation in Germany, Austria, Bohemia, Moravia, and Switzerland. The restoration of the Catholic Church in Germany after the Protestant Reformation is largely attributed to the work there of the Society of Jesus, which he led. He is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint and as a Doctor of the Church. Wednesday: St. John of Kanty - An extremely humble man, he did his best, but his best was not to the liking of his parishioners. Besides, he was afraid of the responsibilities of his position. But in the end he won his people s hearts. After some time he returned to Kraków and taught Scripture for the remainder of his life Friday: The Nativity of the Lord (Christmas) - The canonical gospels of Luke and Matthew both describe Jesus as born in Bethlehem in Judea, to a virgin mother. In the Gospel of Luke account, Joseph and Mary travel from Nazareth to Bethlehem and Jesus is born there and laid in a manger. [1] Angels proclaim him a savior for all people, and shepherds come to adore him. In the Matthew account, astronomers follow a star to Bethlehem to bring gifts to Jesus, born the King of the Jews. Saturday: St. Stephen - Stephen's name means "crown," and he was the first disciple of Jesus to receive the martyr's crown. Stephen was a deacon in the early Christian Church. The apostles had found that they needed helpers to look after the care of the widows and the poor. So they ordained seven deacons, and Stephen is the most famous of these. God worked many miracles through St. Stephen and he spoke with such wisdom and grace that many of his hearers became followers of Jesus St. Januarius, Pray for us.
