III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ GENESIS 17 (NIV) 1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to him and said, "I am God Almighty; walk before me and be blameless. 2 I will confirm my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers." 3 Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, 4 "As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. 8 The whole land of Canaan, where you are now an alien, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God." 9 Then God said to Abraham, "As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come. 10 This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner-- those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant." 15 God also said to Abraham, "As for Sarai your wife, you are no longer to call her Sarai; her name will be Sarah. 16 I will bless her and will surely give you a son by her. I will bless her so that she will be the mother of nations; kings of peoples will come from her."

17 Abraham fell facedown; he laughed and said to himself, "Will a son be born to a man a hundred years old? Will Sarah bear a child at the age of ninety?" 18 And Abraham said to God, "If only Ishmael might live under your blessing!" 19 Then God said, "Yes, but your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will call him Isaac. I will establish my covenant with him as an everlasting covenant for his descendants after him. 20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: I will surely bless him; I will make him fruitful and will greatly increase his numbers. He will be the father of twelve rulers, and I will make him into a great nation. 21 But my covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you by this time next year." 22 When he had finished speaking with Abraham, God went up from him. 23 On that very day Abraham took his son Ishmael and all those born in his household or bought with his money, every male in his household, and circumcised them, as God told him. 24 Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised, 25 and his son Ishmael was thirteen; 26 Abraham and his son Ishmael were both circumcised on that same day. 27 And every male in Abraham's household, including those born in his household or bought from a foreigner, was circumcised with him. 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ MATTHEW 6 (NKJV) READ RESPONSIVELY 1 "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 "Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. ALL: "And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 "But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to

your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. ALL: "And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 "Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 "In this manner, therefore, pray: (Please stand for verses 9-13) ALL: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 "For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. 16 " Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 17 "But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, 18 "so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 19 " Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 "but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. ALL: "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 " The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 "But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 " No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. 25 " Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than

clothing? 26 "Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 "Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 28 "So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 "and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 "Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 "Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 "For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. ALL: "But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ EXPLANATION TO APOSTLES CREED I believe that Jesus Christ, true God, begotten of the Father from eternity, and also true man, born of the virgin Mary, is my Lord. He has redeemed me, a lost and condemned person, purchased and won me from all sin, from death, and from the power of the devil, not with gold or silver, but with His holy, precious blood and His innocent suffering and death. He did this that I should be His very own, live under Him in His kingdom, and serve Him in eternal righteousness, innocence, and joy; just as He is risen from death, lives and reigns in eternity. This is most certainly true. CHILDREN S SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY: #789 [Tan Supplement] But Jesus said, Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven. " ~Matthew 19:14 AUDIO/VIDEO IN CRYROOM FOR PARENTS WITH CHILDREN WHO NEED A BRIEF REMINDER Today s Meditation: Matthew 6:1-4 1 "Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 "Therefore, when you do a charitable

deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 3 "But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 "that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly. Know what acts of righteousness are attractive 1. Jesus teaches their right place before mankind. 2. Jesus teaches their right place before God. THE OFFERTORY We Offer God our hearts again, praying for His Spiritual blessings! SERMON HYMN: #442:4-5 [Red Hymnal] IV. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7 Offering Solo: Take Time - N.Radichel 7/15/05 Worry, Worry, Worry, I m sick of worrying all the time I know life is a busy, but where can I find some peace of mind If only I could get a handle on all these problems of mine I wouldn t have to worry about a thing cause I d be feeling just fine Take time, and watch the lilies grow, And see how the Lord clothes them Take time, and watch the sparrows fly, And see how the Lord feeds them Take time, seek Him first in all you do, you ll find, He cares much more for you Hurry, Hurry, Hurry, I m sick of hurrying all the time I know that life s a struggle, but why do I focus on the dime

She has accepted the call to serve there. Highlights and Brief Summary of Annual Meeting on January 25, 2015 Pastor opened the meeting with prayer at 1:04 pm. The required items on the agenda were presented and approved. This included the reading of the minutes from the past quarter as well as the approval of reports from Pastor and Council Officers. The election of Council Officers was held, and four nominees were elected; two are new members, Kevin Kiefer and Chris Sabel, and two are reelected members, Alex Scheberl and Eric Williams. It is important that the whole congregation know that there remains one opening on Council, and this summer a second position will open on Council. Also the Elders committee needs more members. The 2015 Budget was approved at $175,000 which is the same amount as 2014. Budgetary offerings from last year would need to increase by $24,000 to meet this amount. The 2015-2016 CBP Mission Budget was approved at $31,500 which is a 5% increase over the current year s budget. Current Mission offerings would need to increase by $3,500 to meet this budget. The voters considered and took action on several building improvement and upgrade motions: 1. The voters approved a motion to expand the church building. 2. The voters approved a motion to accept the Phase 1 proposal which is a fellowship hall expansion. This motion includes a fellowship hall, kitchen area, storage room, bathroom upgrades, flooring replacement and new entrances for the south and west doors. 3. The voters approved establishing a new fund for the costs of this building addition and for paying of recent budgetary debt.

4. The voters approved the establishment of a Building Expansion Committee which will make decisions and oversee this project from now until at least the completion of the project. 5. The voters approved establishing an Air Conditioning Fund which will pay for adding of air conditioning to the Church Sanctuary. 6. The voters requested more information about specific details and more exact costs of adding air conditioning before considering the use of current undesignated funds. This information will be gathered and presented as soon as possible this quarter. The flooring replacement will also be moving forward in the next months. 7. The voters thanked the Council and Planning Committee for the time and work done on getting the building project and improvements to this point. The Church Council formally thanked all who volunteer their time and talents throughout the past year. Many people serve on Council or on one of the many committees; assist with worship services, Sunday School and Day School; and help clean, maintain and improve the property and all its buildings. Our congregation depends on all these individuals and benefits from their faithful service. The meeting closed with prayer at 4:10 pm. LM SLEDDING PARTY is being planned by our own 8 th grader, Emma Kottke, at Buttermilk Creek Park on February 19 th from 3-5pm. Adults are encouraged to come! Bring your sleds and toboggans! =] Hot chocolate will be provided! We hope you can make it! Let it snow! THANK YOU Dear Friends at Luther Memorial, As the winter weather wears on, your gift and greetings of this Christmas season continue to warm and encourage us. That you should choose to demonstrate your love of our Savior in this way is very special to us and moves us to thank Him as well as you. May the love of Him who came to give Himself as a ransom for us all continue to fill your hearts with peace and joy. With grateful hearts, Paul & Nona Schaller (Immanuel Lutheran College) REINVESTIGATING DOCTRINAL DIFFERENCES On Jan. 30, representatives from the Church of the Lutheran Confession (CLC), the Evangelical Lutheran Synod (ELS), and WELS met for doctrinal discussions at the WELS Center for Mission and Ministry in Waukesha, Wis. This was the first meeting between representatives of these three synods since 1990. It was called by the synod presidents, with the encouragement of the appropriate synod committees, upon the request of a grassroots group of pastors from all three synods in the Mankato, Minn., area. The meeting was cordial and productive. The participants shared perspectives on the history of the relationship between the three synods. The participants also discussed the Joint Statement Regarding the Termination of Fellowship Between Church Bodies, a document that was prepared in 1990 during the last round of doctrinal discussions. A reconciliation is not expected to come about easily or quickly between the CLC and ELS/WELS. But attendees found it was useful to hear first-hand how the situation looks from the perspective of others and to discuss what it would take to overcome the breach that has separated the synods. Representing the CLC were Pres. Michael Eichstadt, Rev. Paul Nolting, and Rev. Bruce Naumann; representing the ELS were Pres. John Moldstad, Prof. Gaylin Schmeling, and Prof. Erling Teigen; and representing WELS were Prof. John Brenner, Prof. Thomas Nass, and Pres. Mark Schroeder. Only one of these participants was involved in the 1990 meetings, so this meeting brought together a new generation of leaders who have not discussed the issues together before. A second meeting is planned for April 17 in Eau Claire, Wis., to continue the discussions.
