2 THE INVOCATION THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. PASTOR: We begin our Savior s divine service today in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. ALL: Amen! II. WE PRAISE OUR LORD OPENING HYMN: #94:1,2,4 [Red Hymnal] III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ PSALM 138 P: I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple, C: And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; P: For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. C: In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul. P: All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O LORD, When they hear the words of Your mouth. C: Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the LORD, For great is the glory of the LORD. Though the LORD is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar. P: Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, C: And Your right hand will save me. Amen! 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ JOHN 1:1-5 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but

3 was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. 11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. 12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ NICENE CREED I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by Whom all things were made. Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory to judge the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end

4 I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 5 THE OFFERTORY We Offer God our hearts again, praying for His Spiritual blessings! COMMUNION ANNOUNCMENT: (See also blue handout in entry tract rack) Holy Communion is rightly called a Sacrament because it is a Sacred act; not in what WE do for Christ, but in what Christ does for US! Because God s Word presents the reception of this Sacrament as a most intimate expression of spiritual and confessional unity (1 Corinthians 1:10; 10:16-17 Romans 16:17-18), we ask only those who have publicly professed such oneness of faith and belief with us by membership here or another CLC church come forward at this time. This is not a judgment of anyone s faith, but rather an expression of ours. Please speak with pastor if you are seeking a church home or have any questions. We d love to have you! IV. SPECIAL PRAYERS ~ GENERAL PRAYER ~ LORD S PRAYER V. OUR LORD BLESSES US CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION OF SINS P: Having heard the Word of God, let us confess our sins to Him. ALL: Merciful Father in heaven, I am altogether sinful from conception. In countless ways I have sinned against You and do not deserve to be called Your child. But trusting in Jesus, my Savior, I pray: Have mercy on me according to Your unfailing love. Cleanse me from my sin, and take away my guilt. NOMINATIONS FOR ILC PRESIDENT: The Board of Regents invites nominations for the office of President of Immanuel Lutheran College. CLC Treasurer/ILC Business Manager: In July of 2016, Dr. James Sydow will be retiring after serving 13 years as the CLC Treasurer/ILC Business Manager. We thank him for his faithful service! An individual is being sought to serve in this business management position. This position has broad responsibility to oversee the day-to-day financial affairs of the CLC, ILC, and to oversee the staff in the General Business Office. The duties include managing all cash receipts and disbursements and reporting for all accounts and funds of the CLC and ILC to the responsible boards of the CLC. Strong interpersonal skills are necessary as the job requires

10 substantial interaction with ILC students and parents, other synod members, and those outside the synod with whom we do business. The deadline for applications is February 1, THE LM CALLED WORKERS - Miss Ohlmann, the Bernthals, and the Radichels would all like to express their deep thankfulness and appreciation for all the Christmas cards and gifts that were given this year! (Philemon 1:1,7) New Year s Resolution #1 I pray to resolve to gladly hear and learn God s Word in church and at home. I will not without good reason stay away from divine services. I will faithfully devote myself to the searching and meditation of God s Word, for it is the means by which the Holy Spirit nourishes a nd keeps me in my saving faith. I will also commune often, for this too, is a means by which he strengthens my faith and comforts me with forgiveness when I fail. 11 CLC GENERAL FUND COOPERATIVE BUDGET PLAN Proposal for the FISCAL YEAR 2017 Each year the Boards of the CLC prepare budget proposals for the next fiscal year. The proposed budget is submitted to the congregations for their review and with a request for an estimate of offerings from the congregation to help set the budget. The following information is a brief summary of the proposed budget with comparisons to the current operating budget. General Fund includes the support for: Immanuel Lutheran College CLC Mission Program Education and Publications CLC Administration and Retirement Benefits The General Fund does not support: Immanuel Lutheran College Improvement Fund Mission Development Fund Student Aid Fund Church Extension Fund Key changes in the FY 2017 Budget Proposal are: Salary increases for missionaries, ILC professors and ILC staff CLC base code salary increase of $91/mo to $2,365/mo Includes $75/mo base plus a $16/mo cost of living Increases in foreign and US mission support and missionary travel expenses The proposal includes the following costs for ILC students: College Tuition increase from $5,200 to $5, % Seminary Tuition $3,600 no increase High School Tuition $3,600 no increase Room and Board $3,400 no increase Most of the student costs have not been increased because of concern that the High School cost is limiting the potential enrollment.
