2 THE ORDER OF SERVICE I. WE PREPARE TO MEET OUR LORD THE INVOCATION We invoke ( call upon ) the name of our Triune God. Pastor: We begin our spring mission festival service today in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. CONGREGATION: [spoken] Amen! OPENING HYMN (Cong. Favorite): #496:1 [Red Hymnal] Hark! the voice of Jesus crying, "Who will go and work today? Fields are white and harvests waiting, who will bear the sheaves away?" Loud and long the Master calleth, Rich reward He offers thee; Who will answer, gladly saying, "Here am I, send me, send me"? II. WE PRAISE OUR LORD P: What is the purpose of a mission festival? What is the mission of a church? What is your mission? Today s service is a happy occasion. We are reminded it is our joy that Jesus, the risen Savior, has called us and sent us to be His messengers and witnesses to ALL to share the Good News with the world! HYMN: #496:2 [Red Hymnal] If you cannot speak like angels, If you cannot preach like Paul, You can tell the love of Jesus, You can say He died for all. If you cannot rouse the wicked With the Judgment s dread alarms, You can lead the little children To the Savior's waiting arms. CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION OF SINS We come before our Holy God recognizing that we are sinful and daily need His forgiveness. P: Let us therefore confess and pray: ALL: Dear Father in heaven, You are mighty in all You do and say. You have shown Your unfailing love to us even though we have sinned against You in thought, word, and deed. We worship and adore You because You have sacrificed Your only beloved Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, for the full payment and forgiveness of all our sins. As sinful human beings, we often fail to share Your Word and have often been poor examples as Your dear children. Forgive us, Lord, for these offenses, and give us the courage and strength to boldly confess and glorify Your name and Your truth to all. Let us walk before You as a light to this dark world. All this we confess and pray in the name of Your Son, our risen and eternal Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. P: Upon this confession of your sins, by the promise and authority of Christ our Savior, I forgive you all your sins in the name of the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. HYMN: #496:4 [Red Hymnal] 2 P a g e

3 Let none hear you idly saying, "There is nothing I can do," While the souls of men are dying And the Master calls for you. Take the task He gives you gladly, Let His work your pleasure be; Answer quickly when He calleth, "Here am I, send me, send me!" III. OUR LORD SPEAKS TO US 1 ST SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ 1 CORINTHIANS 9: Do you not know that those who minister the holy things eat of the things of the temple, and those who serve at the altar partake of the offerings of the altar? 14 Even so the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should live from the gospel. 15 But I have used none of these things, nor have I written these things that it should be done so to me; for it would be better for me to die than that anyone should make my boasting void. 16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel! 17 For if I do this willingly, I have a reward; but if against my will, I have been entrusted with a stewardship. 18 What is my reward then? That when I preach the gospel, I may present the gospel of Christ without charge, that I may not abuse my authority in the gospel. 19 For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; 20 and to the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; 21 to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; 22 to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some. 23 Now this I do for the gospel's sake, that I may be partaker of it with you. 2 ND SCRIPTURE LESSON ~ LUKE 5: So it was, as the multitude pressed about Him to hear the word of God, that He stood by the Lake of Gennesaret, 2 and saw two boats standing by the lake; but the fishermen had gone from them and were washing their nets. 3 Then He got into one of the boats, which was Simon's, and asked him to put out a little from the land. And He sat down and taught the multitudes from the boat. 4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, "Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch." 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, "Master, we have toiled 3 P a g e

4 all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net." 6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus' knees, saying, "Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men." 11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. OUR CONFESSION OF FAITH ~ LUTHER S EXPLANATION TO THE 3 RD ARTICLE I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him. But the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified, and kept me in true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian Church on earth and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian Church He daily and richly forgives all sins to me and all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead and give to me and all believers in Christ eternal life. This is most certainly true. HYMN OF THE DAY: #770 [Red Hymnal] SERMON MEDITATION read/watch sermons and services online at Jesus said, " Blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it!" ~Luke 11:28 Jeremiah 1:4-10 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: 5 "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." 6 Then said I: "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth." 7 But the LORD said to me: "Do not say, 'I am a youth,' For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. 8 Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you," says the LORD. 9 Then the LORD put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me: "Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. 10 See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant." 4 P a g e

Qualified by the Word We thank our guest preacher today: Pastor Elect Tom Naumann (Detroit, MI) THE OFFERTORY We Offer God our hearts again, praying for His Spiritual blessings! SERMON HYMN: #487 [Red Hymnal] IV. WE OFFER OURSELVES TO OUR LORD AN OFFERING OF THANKFUL HEARTS TO THE LORD So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:7 OFFERING SOLO: Psalm 23 Shannon W. [Colin Mawby CCLI License ] The Lord is my shepherd, there is nothing I shall want. Fresh and green are the pastures, where he gives me repose, repose, repose. Near restful waters he leads me, to revive my drooping spirit. He guides me along the right path; he is true to his name. If I should walk in the valley of darkness, no evil would I fear. You are there with your crook and your staff; with these you give me comfort. You have prepared a banquet for me in the sight of my foes. My head you have anointed with oil; my cup is overflowing. Surely goodness and kindness shall follow me all the days of my life, my life. In the Lord's own house shall I dwell forever and ever. In the Lord's own house shall I dwell forever, forever, forever, forever. 5 P a g e

12 Daily Bible Readings for Home Devotions Mon 2 Samuel 12:1-14 Although what David had done displeased the LORD, God had not given up on David, so Nathan got the assignment to use the sword of the Spirit and cut deep. Not until David had been brought to his knees in repentance did he receive the pearl of forgiveness. We understand; we appreciate God s mercy, too. Tues Matthew 12:38-42 When self-serving clergy came to Him with bogus humility, Jesus posted Jonah s signboard. First, Jonah s three-day ordeal prefigured His own; secondly, true repentance is precious; third, Rabbi is cheap praise for One who brings a greater Word than Jonah brought and whose wisdom surpasses Solomon s. Wed Ephesians 2:11-18 Since every human is born without hope and is without God in the world, God stepped in: Via Christ Jesus you have been made near to God in the blood of Christ. Really? Yes, that s God s foolproof method of squaring everyone s account (14-16). Don t lose out on God s authentic and validated access to His throne of grace! Thurs Psalm 51 God inspired David to put meat on the bones of godly repentance, repentance that lasts throughout life as intimate realignment of self with God, surrender of self into God s hands, abject apology for insulting God and His will, and beseeching God for a better life tomorrow. When God wins a heart, nobody loses. Hallelujah! Fri Matthew 16:1-4 Snide assaults on Jesus theology and identity got to be annoying, so Jesus let them know how wicked and fickle they were: I have healed the lame, blind, mute, and maimed (15:30); I have fed a stadium-sized crowd with only seven loaves and a few small fish but you still say you can t figure Me out. Well, I have better things to do than oblige you. [It was lights out for them!] Sat Colossians 1:19-23 How deep does God s loving pity go? Deep enough to reconcile sinfulness with holiness; deep enough to end the war by declaring peace with rebels; deep enough to present you holy and blameless and irreproachable in His sight. The formula that God devised is powered by enough love and pity to include sacrificing His dearest and best for sinners. Salvation is by His Son Jesus, comes via Jesus, is valid through Jesus, resides in and with Jesus. Pray God that we continue in this faith, grounded and steadfast in Jesus, our Savior. 12 P a g e
