Make Every Effort to serve The #13 world-ranked tennis player, Nick Kyrgios, was recently banned for eight weeks by the ATP World Tour after his bad behavior at the Shanghai Masters, where he failed to give his best effort during his match. The ATP urged him to consult a psychologist in order to reduce his penalty. What if there were penalties in the Christian life for giving less than our best effort? There are! For Christians, the penalty is a loss of rewards. For unbelievers, our lack of making every effort provides fewer opportunities to experience the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Even God is penalized, for in giving less than our best robs Him of the worship He would otherwise receive. Jesus urges us, Make every effort to enter through the narrow door because I tell you, many will try to enter and won t be able (Luke 13:42). Salvation is not simply agreement with a set of beliefs; it is a life commitment to Jesus as our Master. So, whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men, knowing that you will receive the reward of an inheritance from the Lord (Col. 3:23-24). Peter challenges us to make every effort to supplement your faith with goodness, goodness with knowledge, 6 knowledge with self-control, self-control with endurance, endurance with godliness, godliness with brotherly affection and brotherly affection with love (2 Ptr.1:5-7). Make every effort in God s process to grow by letting God work in your life. That same chapter goes on exhorting us to make every effort to confirm your calling and election, because if you do these things, you will never stumble (v. 10). While we do not have to prove our commitment to the world, Jesus taught us to let our light shine before them in a way that they would see our good works and give God glory. Lord, help us to make every effort to give You, our Master, our very best without reserve every day. Amen. N. C. Hope everyone has had a very good start to 2017. Thankfully, as I am writing this, the weather has warmed up but I know winter is not over just yet. The snow was beautiful but glad it is gone. February is the month of love with Valentine s Day, February 14. What better way to show our love than remembering the Kennedy Home in Kinston; the children and employees, in prayer and continued support after Hurricane Matthew s devastation in October. Contact BCH's Brenda Gray at 336-689-4442 or if you can volunteer to help please contact Sam Barefoot at 336-474-1278. April is rapidly approaching,so the time is here to begin getting ready for the April 2017 Food Roundup. The needs and resource list will be coming soon so you can check at WWW.BCHFOODROUNDUP.ORG for that information. Please keep this project in prayer and start planning now to make this the best year ever for the roundup. Thank you for your continued support of North Carolina Baptist Children s Homes. MISSION PROJECTS TO TACKLE HOPE FOR APPALACHIA BOXES OF HOPE Help poor children in SE Kentucky, and Western Virginia. HOW? Organize a box drive at your church Sort and check boxes Deliver boxes and the Gospel to the children. 2017 has the promise of being our largest year yet for Hope Boxes. By God s blessing, we anticipate over 17,750 boxes this year reaching students in 47 schools across southeast Kentucky and Wise County, Virginia. We recognize that this is going to be a huge undertaking, but we also know that God would not have opened this door for us without a plan already in place as to how He would accomplish this task. Join us on this journey by your church making Hope Boxes or by being part of a team this year. We will be deploying teams across 8 counties March 21-April 1. If you have any questions about making a box, please contact our deployment coordinator, Tanya Walls, at hope.tw11@yahoo.com or by calling her at (336) 672-1376. For items needed for boxes, check https://hopeforappalachia.com/hope-box-items Drop off your boxes March 6-9 at the associational office or West Stanly Baptist Church. UWHARRIE MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL OCTOBER 14, 2017 Amanda Boone. coordinator for the Uwharrie Mountain Festival is working to revamp the festival and would like to offer a free kids area complete with snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, bounce houses and face painting. There is a catch. For the kids to be able to enter the kids zone they must go thru Child Evangelism Fellowship tent. While there, they will get the wordless story on the gospel. For us to make this happen I need local churches to sponsor one event in the kids zone. I would love to be able to team up with a few people and offer them some amazing adventures that the Uwharrie Mountains offer. Contact Amanda at 336.847.5596.
