From Our Pastor... Something for your summer reflection time a classic poem dear to my heart. Fr. Jim Deiters Desiderata By Max Ehrmann Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore, be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be Happy! We extend our loving and prayerful sympathy to the friends and family of Brad and Mandy Titze who were killed in a motorcycle accident last Sunday. May they rest in the peace and love of Christ. Please continue to pray for all who have died and all who are mourning the death of a loved one. Contact Clarence Heller at 314-258-9066 or clarenceheller@gmail.com. or visit www.momentsofgraceandprayer.org Works of Mercy Feeding the Hungry & Giving Drink to the Thirsty The Works of Mercy can sometimes seem like heroic and remote events, like Mother Teresa s work in Calcutta. Come learn how the Works of Mercy can be daily, accessible activities. Parishioner, Jeanette Giebels, will give a short presentation on her experience helping provide food and drink to those in need. There will be time for questions and discussion afterward. Saturday, July 22 after 5 p.m. Mass Sunday, July 23 after 8:30 & 10:30 Masses Fellowship Hall Voca on Corner This holiday weekend we mark another anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. On the 51st anniversary, Charles Carroll, the only Catholic to have signed the Declaration and the last surviving signer, said, God grant that this religious liberty may be preserved in these States to the end of time, and that all believing in the religion of Christ may practice the leading principle of charity, the basis of every virtue. Today is a time for choosing how we will keep faith with the great accomplishments of our Catholic forebears as we seek to make our own contributions. If we or someone in your family is called by the Holy Spirit to a religious vocation we should encourage and accept this challenge as we are all endowed by our Creator with life and liberty. Vivat Jesus! Columbia, Culture of Life, Oct. 2015, pg. 47. The Convoy of Hope Community Event returns this year on Saturday, July 22.
