ANOINTING OF THE SICK Saturday, October 21 & Sunday, October 22 The Anointing of the Sick will be administered at all of the Masses on the weekend of October 21/22. No registration is needed. There is an October Parish Activities Calendar in this week s parish bulletin. Please clip-and-keep that Calendar on your refrigerator as a handy reminder of the many things going on here at St Charles Parish during the next few weeks. At the direction of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and following the request of Cleveland Bishop Nelson Perez, these will be a second collection at Mass this weekend to provide humanitarian aid for those suffering the effects of Hurricane Irma. Thank you for your generosity and concern. Speaking of October, this month we remember a number of well-known and particularly beloved saints; October 1 we remember St Therese of Liseaux, the Little Flower, who taught us to do small things with great love. October 2 is the Feast of the Guardian Angels. The first prayer my mother taught me was Angel of God, my guardian dear October 4 is the day we honor St Francis of Assisi, patron of our current pope, and a saint revered even by non-catholics and non-christians. Francis taught us to preach by our actions. October 7 is our day to remember Our Lady of the Rosary. On the eve, Friday October 6, at 7:30pm (right after the 7:00pm Mass) sponsored by our Legion of Mary--we will recite the Rosary, with the Sorrowful Mysteries, and offer Benediction. All are invited. October 11 is St Pope John XXIII s day (a particular hero of mine.) He called for the Second Vatican Council and brought a new style of pastoral leadership to the Church. October 16 we call to mind St Margaret Mary who promoted widespread and popular devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. October 28 is the feast day of St Jude, the long-time patron of the impossible. October 31 is Halloween which means Eve of All Saints when we remember those who, though not formally canonized, are all saints in heaven. St Charles Dismas Ministry assists those confined in jails and prisons; they also help those who, when released, want to live honest and meaningful lives. To this end, our Dismas Ministry is sponsoring a Women s Clothing Drive on the weekend of October 21-22. These items are requested: business casual women s blouses, slacks, skirts, blazers, business suits, business outerwear and belts, (all should be suitable for work and job interviews.) Your donations to this Women s Clothing Drive can be dropped off at the St Vincent de Paul Room (old Credit Union next to the Parish Hall Entrance) Saturday October 21, 9am to 7pm, and on Sunday October 22, 8am to 2pm. Cash donations would also be welcome, if you prefer. Put them in an envelope marked Dismas Ministry and return them in the weekend collection or drop them off at the Parish Office. A few weeks back I announced a Summer 2018 Irish Tour. The dates proposed were July 28 to August 10, but when trying to make the arrangements for those days--i could not get enough hotel rooms due to the July Galway Races and the August Irish Bank Holiday. So the Irish Tour is still on, just moved up. We are now looking at Sunday June 17 to Thursday June 28. Parishioners, friends, and family members are most welcome. If those new June dates work for you, call the Parish Office and leave your name, the number interested in going, a phone number, and e-mail addresses.

Let s walk together! 2017 PUBLIC ROSARY CRUSADE America Needs Fatima has had a Public Rosary Crusade across the country for 10 years. There were over 2,000 simultaneous rallies held the first year and have increased steadily to over 16,000 last year. This year, the goal is 20,000 rallies that will all begin at 12:00 noon. Our nation is in great need of public prayer, repentance and conversion. In this historic year of the Fatima Centennial (1917-2017), we ask God to save America through the Rosary of His Most Holy Mother. At the end of World War II, Communist Soviet troops occupied Vienna, Austria. They refused to leave. After massive public Rosary processions, the Communist invaders packed up and left. Large-scale public rosaries were likewise credited for foiling a Communist takeover in Brazil in 1964. If the rosary saved these countries, it can save America. PLEASE JOIN US IN PRAYING FOR OUR NATION ON OCTOBER 14, 2017 AT 12:00 NOON. Two Rallies will be taking place in Parma: IN FRONT OF ST. COLUMBKILLE CHURCH, 6740 Broadview Road. During this guided experience, you will immerse yourself in the Gospel Message of Lourdes as given by Our Lady to St. Bernadette. You will have the opportunity to touch the Grotto Rock and to experience the healing grace of Lourdes Water. As part of this spiritual journey to draw nearer to Jesus and His Blessed Mother, you will receive a Eucharistic blessing and pray the Rosary.
