Sater Family Sun., Sept. 24, 2017 10:30 am LeRoy Albert Bill & Marie Ellen Knass Deceased Sunday Reflection I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you? The parable Jesus tells today is the story of a king, but in truth it is about Jesus himself. He is the king who has forgiven our debts. We are the servants whose sins have earned us chastisement. But when we repent and ask for Christ's mercy, he grants it to us without hesitation. The point of the parable, then, is that we too should extend this mercy to others. We should not be like that wicked servant who begged for mercy but would not show it to others. Elsewhere, Jesus teaches us to pray, Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors (Mt. 6:12). We use different words, but a similar meaning when we pray the Our Father asking God to forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. But are we sure that we mean what we say? It's important to pause and evaluate how we are doing in this regard. Are we harboring any grudges? Are there people we refuse to forgive? Is there a situation where we are seeking revenge instead of extending mercy? Jesus asks us to do otherwise. He reminds us that we have already been forgiven. We are right now enjoying the benefits of his forgiveness. So we are called to bear in mind our own sins, failings, weaknesses, and debts when we deal with others instead of thinking that we are perfectly innocent and acting as if we've never been the beneficiary of mercy. So let us do our best to forgive as we have been forgiven. This doesn't mean approving of wrong behavior; God doesn't ask us to do that. But he does ask us to let go of bitterness and foster mercy instead. BAPTISMS We proudly welcome Lydia Rae Barbish (daughter of Mark & Ashley Barbish) and Owen Gregory Zollner (son of Zachariah & Amy Zollner) who were recently baptized into the faith.

Again, congratula ons to Dennis Johnston on being chosen for Manifes ng the Kingdom Award Pi sburgh, and may he be blessed for his faithful years of service, dedica on and witness to the Gospel. Father Robert Cedolia FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BOB CATECHETICAL SUNDAY Catechetical Sunday is observed nationally to emphasize just how important Faith Formation is for the life of the Church now and in the future. Our Faith Formation begins in the home, in the setting of the human family, and should continue there if it is going to be solid, effective and real for life. While it is rooted in the home, many others assist in the formation process: catechetical program leaders, catechists in the formal program, teachers in the school and home catechists. Along the way of life, more assistance comes from sacramental preparation leaders, for Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation. Adult Education leaders, Youth Ministers, Children s Liturgy facilitators, and facilitators in the RCIA and RCIC programs also assist. More assistance comes from the weekly nourishing of our faith at the Sunday Liturgy, both from the Liturgy of the Word and the Communal Celebration of the Eucharist. This weekend, parents, our Faith Formation Director, our School Principal, Catechists, School Teachers and our entire faith family, celebrate the great gift we have of our faith and the role that we all play together in forming this faith and assign it on to our generation and future generations. Personally, I would like to thank all those special people who help me carry out my role as Pastor and teacher: Sister Ann Marie, Amy LaMartina, Joni Mulvaney, and the many teachers, catechists and volunteers who make our school and Faith Formation programs possible and viable. Please offer the following prayer for our students and teachers: Heavenly Father, In Your wisdom and love You surround us with the mysteries of the universe. In times long past You sent us your prophets to teach Your laws And to bear witness to Your undying love. You sent us Your Son to teach us by word and example That true wisdom comes from You alone. Send Your Holy Spirit upon the students and teachers of Holy Sepulcher School and Faith Formation Programs and fill them with Your wisdom and blessings. Grant that during this academic year they may devote themselves to their Studies and share what they have learned from others. Through Christ our Lord, Amen
