Father Maher Council #648, Jacksonville, Florida 1902-2016 VOLUME NO. 5 ISSUE 6 June, 2016 WWW.KOFC648.COM FROM THE GRAND KNIGHT - Frank Herrington: Grand Knight s Letter June 2016 Brother Knights, As the Fraternal Year draws to a close we can look back over our many accomplishments for 2015-2016 such as the Health Fair at St. Pius V; the Carnival at Most Holy Redeemer; the Bazaar at St. Matthew s; Viewing the Stars at all our parishes; Beautification Days at Sacred Heart; our Las Vegas Night that provided more than 2,880 pounds of food for the needy in our parishes at Christmas; support of a Seminarian (Bob Hoffman), hosting Council, District and Regional Basketball Free Throws; hosting the Annual Boy Scout Breakfast and Awards Sunday (with Bishop Estevez as distinguished guest), conducting a Tootsie Roll Drive that provided funds to Camp I Am Special; providing assistance to the Woman s Health Center; pressure washing at our parishes and not forgetting our Spaghetti Dinner; helping with coffee and doughnuts at St. Matthew s and our Pancake Breakfasts at St. Matthew s and St. Pius V. I know I have forgotten some events and this is just through May. June starts with Dream Night at the Jacksonville Zoo for special needs children and their families (3 June) and ends with Night at the Races on 25 June. I want to thank all the brothers who helped to support these endeavors during the 2015-2016 Fraternal Year through your active participation, your donations and your prayers. By working together we can make sure that 2016-2017 is an even better year. Our Night at the Races will be held on Saturday 25 June. We need volunteers but we also need ticket sales. This year we will be raising money to assist in all our Council events such as Viewing the Stars, Basketball Free Throw, Women s Health Center etc. Have a wonderful month and thanks to all of you for a wonderful year. Fr Maher Council #648 For the Month Of June Our General Meeting for June is Thursday 9 June with the pizza social starting at 6:15 and the meeting starting at 7:00. The Night at the Races Planning Committee meet Wednesdays at 6:30pm in the Council meeting room. On Saturday 11 June at 8:00 we will host celestial viewing of planets, stars, galaxies and the first quarter moon. Join us for Knights Under the Stars. Remember your council shirt orders. Shirts must be paid for in advance The Golden Jubilee (50 Years) of Priesthood will be celebrated for Father Luke McLoughlin at St. Matthew's on Sunday 12 June. It will start with the 10:30 Mass and end with a reception in the Schiavone Parish Center. Father Luke is an Honorary Life Member of our Council and Ponce de Leon Assembly and has been a Knight for 49 years. We will have a planning meeting on Saturday 18 June at 10:00 A.M. in the Council Meeting Room. This will assist new officers in making a smoother entry into their position. Please make this meeting, if at all possible, as it will be beneficial to all. St Pius V will be serving Gumbo after the 10:30 Mass on Sunday June 12th. There will be several different types and I m sure you will enjoy them all. Tickets are $6.00. The money will go to purchase Priest s vestments. Night at the Races June 25th.
