Page 2 FROM THE PASTOR S DESK This Third Sunday of Advent finds us anticipating the fun and joyful days of the Christmas season. To get there we need to be reminded of the opportunity to recognize our failings and self-centeredness and seek God s forgiving embrace. Don t forget the communal penance service next Saturday, December 19th at 11 AM. The parish Christmas Party, open to all ages, is taking shape. We ask that folks bring a plate of their favorite cookies to share. Our theme this year is Finding Jesus. The journey to Bethlehem, with guides along the way, will help give the proper perspective to Christmas. A fun side of the party will be the opportunity to have a family picture taken with the famous Vienna Bears Choir under the direction of St. Nick. Older parishioners will enjoy the Cele-Bear-ties red carpet walk and the memories it will bring. Come to the party, December 20th, Noon 2:00 PM, and bring your family and friends and a plate of cookies! On a final note, please remember to make your reservation by Monday, December 21st for the Wedding Jubilarians celebration on Holy Family Sunday. This. too, will be a a good time when families are home to get your family pictures on a special day. Please see the bulletin for the reservation form. Enjoy the week! FAMILY FAITH FORMATION By Fr. Terry Kerner By Grace Lakatos FAITH FORMATION Hard to believe it is already the 3rd Sunday of Advent. Have you and your family taken some extra time to prepare for the coming of the Christ child? One tradition you might want to begin or continue is a family blessing of your Christmas tree. With the family gathered around the tree, everyone extends a hand in a gesture of blessing. One member sprinkles the tree with holy water (or water) while a prayer such as this one is said by the entire family. Loving God, we stand before you once again. We stand here ready to celebrate the birth of your son, Jesus. Bless this tree, this sign of life and freshness and perseverance in our midst. It stands as a reminder that you are born anew in us each day. Bless our family and friends as we celebrate this joyous season. Keep us safe in our travels, kind in our conversations, and gracious in our giving and receiving. We ask you this in confidence, because we know you love us. Butterflies bearing the names of your loved ones from our Memorial Cross can be picked up at the parish office through the month of December. Our Holiday Mail for Heroes was a big success. 210 cards were taken to the Red Cross headquarters in Detroit for distribution to our military, their families, support personnel and veterans, both stateside and aboard. Thank you for a job well done. Monday, December 14th is the last day to order Dearborn Brand hams and kielbasa from the youth and young adults of St. Kateri and Sacred Heart as they work to raise funds for their various mission trips in 2016. Call the parish office to place your order. Giving Tree donations must be returned by Sunday, December 20th. Volunteers are needed to sort and deliver our gifts to the three charities. If you can offer your time and assistance, please contact the parish office. The look on the faces of our recipients is priceless and unforgettable. Have you found your favorite cookie recipe yet? Our parish Christmas party is fast approaching and your cookies are needed. Remember to place your cookies in a disposable, non-returnable container or plate. Your gift to today's collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious helps provide medications, nursing care, and more. Please be generous.
