Rite of Acceptance Today at the 11 AM Mass This year Our Lady of Sorrows is blessed to have two people who have been meeting with Deacon Frank, his wife Ginni, and Mike Methot for the last three months to explore RCIA through a series of talks and discussion. This Sunday, at the 11:00 Mass, they will be presented to the parish to publicly state their intention to continue formation and to receive the parish s affirmation in the Rite of Acceptance. George DuCasse is a baptized Lutheran and his wife Rebekah is a baptized Catholic who did not receive Confirmation. Both are Canton residents that have found a home at Our Lady of Sorrows. They will continue their weekly classes through Easter, when they will receive Confirmation and Eucharist. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a series of teachings to share Catholicism with those interested in coming to full communion with our Church. Participants may be adults who have never been baptized, baptized non-catholics who are converting or an adult Catholic who never received Confirmation. In the Archdiocese of Boston, every year hundreds of people join the Catholic Church by participation in RCIA. The OLOS Staff is complete! We would like to announce the hiring of Anne Marie Dion as our new Coordinator of Faith Formation and Teresa Coda as our Director of Faith Formation. Anne Marie will be implementing the Pre-k thru 5 th Religious Education program to include First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, and she will be coordinating the Middle School Social and Faith Formation programs and the Summer Mission Trips. Teresa Coda will continue to coordinate the Confirmation program and Service program, as well as work with the Faith Formation Commission on Adult Faith Formation programming. Take a moment to introduce yourself and welcome our new staff. Sign Up to Serve: As the Thanksgiving Holiday and Advent and Christmas Seasons approach, there are numerous service opportunities available, whether you are a middle school student, high school student, or adult parishioner. Consider signing up to give back through serving others at one of the following opportunities: Donuts and Bagels with Saint Nicholas, on Sunday, December 4th, from 8:30am-11:00am. Students will assist with hosting St. Nicholas' annual visit with our prek through Grade 5 students and their families. Help is needed with set up, break down and hosting. Students will prepare and facilitate face painting and minor crafts. This service opportunity is open to High School students and adults. My Brother s Keeper on Thursday, December 15th, from 3:30pm-6:30pm. Since 1991, MBK has supported families in need during Christmas time, by providing them with gifts and food. When we visit My Brother s Keeper we'll be wrapping Christmas gifts for families in need. This service opportunity is open to Middle School students and adults. Also, keep your eyes open for our Parish Giving Tree, through which we ll collect gifts to bring to My Brother s Keeper. Christmas in the City on Sunday, December 18th from 8:45am-5:00pm. CITC is a non-profit, 100% volunteer organization. Their mission is to support and mentor homeless families in the Greater Boston area. Their Christmas party is the largest Christmas party in MA serving approximately 3,000 homeless children. When we volunteer at Christmas in the City, we will serve as Santa s Helpers. We will serve food, distribute Christmas gifts to the children, and care for the children at Winter Wonderland, an event filled with fun activities. This service opportunity is open to any person age sixteen and older. You can learn more about the service opportunities and sign up to take part in one or more by visiting www.olossharon.org/service-opportunities. Signing up ensures that we will have an adequate number of volunteers, as well as facilitates communication regarding permission slips, instructions, etc. Contact Teresa Coda with any comments or questions (781-784-2265, or tcoda@olossharon.org). This week-long service experience provides participants with a mix of direct service, opportunities for learning and dialogue, cross-cultural sharing, community building, prayer, and fun. Young Neighbors helps participants learn how poverty and a lack of respect for human dignity impact the lives of real people. All of this is done through the lens of the seven themes of Catholic Social Teaching. Middle School students will head to Springfield, MA with Just5Days July 17-21.* Just5Days is more than just a week of volunteering; it is a chance for middle schoolers to stretch themselves, learn about their faith, and serve the community side by side with other youth and caring adults. To register for either trip, submit a $50 deposit (made payable to Our Lady of Sorrows) to Teresa Coda by December 15th. For more information about the trips, contact Teresa Coda. (781-784-2265, or tcoda@olossharon.org). *Please note that it is possible that the Just5Days Trip will be changed to the following week, July 24-28 (still in Springfield). The finalized week will be announced as soon as it is determined, hopefully by the first of the year. Welcome to Our Lady of Sorrows Parish.
