Grand Knight s Message Dave Kunze Happy February and, we have been reminded that winter has arrived. I hope you are staying warm and in good health. At the time of this column, the Snowball Dance is now in the history books. Judging by the number of people in attendance, it was a huge success!!! Hats off to our Event Chairman, Rudy Mishich, and his committee for a job very well done! A final report will be posted in next month s Tempo. I want to take a moment to thank Ewald Chrysler Airstream and Waterstone Bank for being major sponsors at the Snowball Dance. It takes a tremendous amount of pressure off the council, when local businesses provide a base with which to promote our events. I hope our members, when shopping for specific items, will consider our advertisers and sponsors And tell them Thank-You! And be sure to tell them you saw it in the Tempo. A 2 nd and 3 rd Degree is scheduled for February 4, hosted by Trinity Council at the Sacred Heart School of Theology. The 2 nd Degree will take place at 11 a.m. with the 3 rd Degree scheduled following a lunch break at 1:30p.m. I invite you to come and experience the lessons of Unity and Fraternity you won t be disappointed. Chaplain s Corner Fr. Mark Brandl I wish you all a blessed New Year and pray for the health and happiness of you and your families. I guess I will continue to perhaps elaborate on the words I said at the general meeting as many of you could not attend that event. I talked about Tim Tebow for those of you who were not with us that evening, not because I am a football fan, but because he has become such a metaphor for what Jesus talks about in the Gospels often. The name of Jesus will always bring a reaction from the world. Where Jesus is, there will be controversy. Jesus told us that He would bring father against son and daughter against mother and brother against brother. If the world hates you, do not worry because it hated me first. I say this because Tim Tebow has not garnered all this publicity because of his football skills, but because He wears his faith on his sleeve. He is a lightening rod for evil forces. He proudly professes his faith in Jesus Christ first and foremost. Many athletes have and do this to a smaller extent. Tebowing is now the name for a person who bows on bended knee with their head in hand in the act of giving thanks. Make no mistake, much of this controversy is because He is worshiping the God of his choice in Jesus. That will bring a visceral reaction from those forces opposed to God in the world. I would suggest it makes us feel a little uneasy at times for reasons we may not have reflected on. Jesus also tells us in Luke 9:26 that if anyone is ashamed of me and my words, then I will be ashamed of them when they enter the Kingdom. We cannot let others and their reaction dictate how we feel about God. Tim Tebow has encountered fierce opposition and unwarranted degradation to his person. There are many who hate him and sports reporters that will deride him no matter what he does. This is in essence a rookie in games played and he has not done well by quarterback standards. Many like him are ignored and that is not the case with Tebow. Jesus Christ has been brought into the discussion which has made it emotional and hateful. This young man has stepped up with class and conviction and is a role model for Christians. As Jesus told us though, this should not take us by surprise. The closing words of the beatitudes in Matthew comfort us when He tells us that blessed are those insulted and persecuted because of me May God bless this young man and may we have his courage and at the very least, defend him as Christian brothers. God Bless you, Congratulations to the following Brother Knights who are Celebrating Birthdays in February: Rev. Donald E. Schmid Robert J. Hashek Duane J. Lieske Robert W. Gadbois Rev.
