We will be hiding over 900 eggs this year. So come on out and join in the fun!!! A St. John Vianney Parishioner Wrote: Last week my husband and I had the experience to deliver the largest food donation to the St. James food pantry that we have ever seen. There were only two women there to help us unload our van which was piled high to the roof. It took quite a bit of effort and time to carry the numerous bags of food up the stairs into the building, but it also made us feel good that we had so much to give. The most meaningful moment came when we were done and ready to leave. I said to the volunteer Now our delivery work is done, and you have a real big job ahead to unpack the numerous bags of food that lined the floors and tables to which she replied No I wouldn t have a job at all if you didn t bring the food here. God Bless you and your parishioners for remembering our food pantry. St. John Vianney helps to keep our pantry open. I was so moved by what she said that I wanted to share the experience with you all and encourage more people to put the food pantry on their shopping list each week for whatever donation you may wish to give our less fortunate brothers, sisters and children in our area.

APPALACHIA CORNER It is with great joy that I announce the Appalachia corner of the bulletin again this year. Fundraising efforts begin now with our goal to raise $20,000.00 once again. Checks can be made out to St. John Vianney Youth Ministry and mailed to John Cook at St. John Vianney Church, 420 Inman Avenue, Colonia, NJ. 07067. Your generosity in the past has enabled us to reach that goal all eighteen years we have strived to serve America's poor. What is the Appalachia service project? The parishes of St. John Vianney and St. Cecelia have teamed up with the St. Sebastian Church in Preston County West Virginia to serve America's poor. St. Sebastian s receives hundreds of applications each year for work on (trailer) homes of elderly and destitute participants. They visit each family and make several assessments including financial, safety, and work needed. The approved applications then get divided up to the 19 groups that come in over the summer based on the skill sets of each group. On May 18th I will travel down to West Virginia with a contractor and a materials expert to view and price each project. We spend the home journey of this 20 hour blitz choosing the safest and best sites to put our teens to work. The next few weeks we price materials, meet with all of our contractors, and make a plan of action on each site selected. It is a well oiled machine with amazing volunteer talent at the hub. We put the teens first in each of our decisions, and my goal is for them to absolutely love serving the poor so they make a life long habit of just that. Pay attention to more of the trip dynamics including food, transportation, housing, the work day, and more in the weeks ahead. Please know that your donations have brought about countless life changing experiences on both ends of the spectrum. You can be especially proud of the volunteers of last year s trip, who worked in the mud on a steep slope in the torrential rain each day to complete our largest project ever. Appalachia is consistently life-changing for all involved.
