PARISHIONERS SPEAK: Did Mary worry like mothers do? I wonder if Mary worried about Jesus and her loved ones like I do with my own family sometimes. I wonder if she felt helpless in watching them when they were suffering and wondering when God would be able to help them. I think Mary and moms alike worry a lot about their families and friends they care about. Sometimes we want to just take away the pain they are in and make things better for them. Sometimes it feels like it is taking forever for God to help them, or for them to accept God's help. Sometimes God's plan doesn't make sense at all. I am not the best at saying daily prayer, but I find at night when I put my head on a pillow to sleep, I pray parts of the rosary and think about the people I worry about. I prayed for a family member for a long time for God to intervene and help them in their addiction, and one day this family member called out for some help. Enough help to get them to get up every day and function a little bit better than they were before. When my head and heart start to worry like that I just stop and say a quick Hail Mary. It's my favorite prayer. It's so simple, and I think Mary understands how we worry about other people we care about. We cannot control where other people are at in life but we can pray for them, that is really the one thing that is always in our control. So I try to remember that when I don't understand why the people I care about are suffering and why they have not been able to choose better for themselves. I hope others will pray for me too if they ever worry about me. ~ A parishioner who is a mother I prayed 3 Hail Mary s for our mother parishioners, Fr. Gregory St. Bernard Flower Bed Help We have 2 parishioners who ll oversee 4 of our 6 flower beds around the rectory and the north side of the church. That leaves 2 flowers beds that need volunteers. The plants are perennials, so no planting is required. It would basically involve weeding or hoeing throughout the summer (you know how quickly those weeds grow!) and cleaning/clipping the beds of dead plant matter in the fall. No watering required. Sunday May 31st - 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. St. Bernard School Honors History -St. Bernard Parish invites all parishioners, school families, alumni and the community to help honor our school history. Mass at 10 o'clock followed by a free-will offering luncheon in the school cafeteria. There will also be a memorabilia display on the first floor of the school and all the class rooms will be open. VBS news: VBS will be June 15th-19th at Ascension from 9am to noon. Prek4-5th grade students sign up for VBS! It is time to get your registration in for VBS. Our faith formation leaders sent out registration forms and there are extras in the back of both churches. I need the students to be registered by May 15th. VBS Volunteers needed! Please consider helping with VBS it is a great time to share our faith with our students and a lot of fun for all. Volunteers can be any one grades 6 and up and we need some adult help too. Please fill out the yellow forms in the back of both churches. I need them back by May 8th. VBS wish list: We are looking for a few things to be donated for our VBS program: White or light blue material or clean sheets, batting, blue or white Christmas lights, and winter/snow theme decorations. Electronic Giving Meeting A meeting will be held on May 13 th at 7 p.m. in the Ascension Social Hall for all parishioners who wish to learn more about the convenience and flexibility of Electronic Giving or sign up to use this new service which we are introducing. Receiving the Eucharist Receiving the Eucharist means adoring Him whom we receive. Only in this way do we become one with Him, and are given, as it were, a foretaste of the beauty of the heavenly liturgy. The act of adoration outside Mass prolongs and intensifies all that takes place during the liturgical celebration itself.
