We were sad as that was the day the Lord called our Sister Irene home to Himself. However, that sadness was transformed into joy knowing that she was finally at peace with the Lord she loved and served for over 50 years. Anyone who met Sister Irene could not help but be affected by her peaceful demeanor and prayerful spirit. The Lord blessed her with a loving and kind heart that she willingly shared with everyone she encountered. It was both comforting and edifying to see and hear so many of our staff, volunteers, families, and friends come to say their final goodbye to Sister and whisper words of encouragement and thanks to her in her final days. She made each person feel special and loved in a unique way and that ability was a true gift that God had given to her and she gave to others. Sister was a woman of great faith and prayer Farewell to our Sister Irene believing in her heart the God would take care of her and indeed He did in many ways just as He cares for each of us in the way we need it most. The day Sister died she told me that she heard someone calling her name, Julie, Julie (her secular name). The Lord has called each of us by name and was calling her home. She responded to His call just as she did over 50 years ago when he called her to become a Carmelite and serve Him in religious life. Her answer was always Yes. May Sister Irene be a rest in the arms of the Lord who welcomed her with these words: Well done good and faithful servant, come and share the reward I have prepared for you Sponsored by the Carmelite Sisters, whose sole mission is to care for the aged and infirm. That mission informs everything we do: every policy we set, every staff person we hire, and every moment of every day. We offer two levels of care in our Ft. Thomas, Kentucky facility: personal care and skilled nursing care. In addition to meeting the physical, social, spiritual, and personal needs, our staff works to connect personally with each resident, and get to know their story.
