Life is full of last things verses as we move on. The Park View Christian Unity I stated in my initial report as pull this vision out of nowhere, the Worship Team leader that but because unity is my vision for the coming year fundamental to being a disciple. was that at Park View we are From its very beginning the one church, one congregation, Disciples of Christ has been a and one Christian family. It is movement of Christian unity. wonderful that we are able to support two services on For anyone unfamiliar with the Sunday morning, but we should history, the Christian Church, never lose sight that those two Disciples of Christ was formed services support one body in by the merger of two Christian Christ at our church. I did not unity movements in the early August 2018 good thing is that there is not a lynch mob waiting for us at Cedar Road; there is yet another loving congregation waiting to greet us and accept us. Thanks be to God! THANK YOU for four wonderful years, and all the testimonies along the way. I will remind you: I will not be your pastor after August 12th, but I will ALWAYS be your friend. Esther and I love you more than you could possibly know. God bless you Park View Christian Church, Pastor Tim Campbell 19 th century. Both movements developed independently, but had similar approaches to the Christian faith. The first was the Christians led by Barton Stone in Kentucky and the second was the Disciples of Christ led by Thomas and Alexander Campbell in western Pennsylvania and (cont d page 2)
2 Page 2 Park View News Park View Christian Unity, Cont d Virginia. These movements were seeking to reform the Christian church from within and sought the unification of all Christians in a single body patterned after the church of the New Testament. In 182 the two groups merged with a handshake in the High Street Meeting House in Lexington, Kentucky with the name Christian Church, Disciples of Christ. The spirit of unity lives on in our identity statement adopted at the 2009 General Board: We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord s Table as God has welcomed us. We as Disciples are committed to unity and inclusion at the Lord s Table as one Christian family. We care so dearly about coming together to share at the table that we use the chalice, a traditional symbol of communion, as our church logo. We honor our heritage of Christian unity by coming together in covenant as a model to the world that even when we disagree we can still make room, welcoming ALL to the table as Christ has welcomed us. We are united by our belief that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God and is the Lord and Savior of the World. We are united by our identity statement. And we are united by our following of the gospels of Jesus Christ. However, we seek unity, not uniformity. Our church is in a position to be an excellent example of this to our community. We are diverse culturally and diverse in our worship of the Lord with our 9:00 and 11:00 service formats, both of which can only make us stronger as a church and as a congregation. As we seek to embody the movement of wholeness in a fragmented world from our identity statement, we must start with our own church. How could we strive for unity in our community, our nation, and our world if we did not first have unity within our own congregation? If you have not already, make a point to get to know your brothers and sisters in Christ in both services. Let s look for every opportunity that we can to come together in combined services and socials where we all get to share as one congregation, one body of Christ. Amen. Jason Chuma Worship Committee Chair Vacation Bible School August 1-17 Don t miss out on the fun and spiritfilled week of August , help is needed each night. We need and best we can sponsor. 3 Page Disciples Women s News We are getting ready to get into high gear for the coming fall! There will be an executive bard meeting on August 7 at 7pm to make our fall plans. The big push will be to start preparing for our annual fall bazaar, which will be October 1. We need crafters, baked goods, and canned goods (if you make jellies or pickles). Also, Gina needs donations for our silent auction such as antiques, handmade items and gift baskets. Please volunteer to participate! Woman of the Year Tribute Poem This gal was born way down south of the border With a busy family, a lot was on her shoulders. She did fine in school but sometimes got bored Wanting to experience the world and keep moving forward. It wasn t long til she moved out to start her own life With thoughts of family and being a wife. She worked hard at every job she faced, There were many challenges as she strived to find her place. A couple years ago, Eva found Park View and came in. The very next week she brought kids and hubby and came back again. She got involved as fast as she could Doing every job asked in the best way she could. Any time there has been a need, she s eager to begin So every time the church doors open, she seems to walk in! We honor you this year, Evea, for your dedication in serving God above. You are our woman of the year, YOU have shared your gifts of love. -G. Artz Thank you, Pastor Tim It is with mixed emotions that Park View Christian Church must say farewell to Pastor Tim Campbell, who has served us well for the past four years. He has shared his vision for outreach ministries beyond the walls of the church and strived to encourage us to do just that. Pastor Tim also saw the need for a second service to reach those who might like more contemporary Christian music and format, and saw that it was created. There are so many things that have caused us to grow both individually and as a church. Even the visibility of the church has been greatly enhanced by the addition of the crushed asphalt road that leads into the church, coordinated by Tim and Chip Artz. It is noted that during these past four years, we have grown in new members joining the church, guests attending, and children s ministry. Pastor Tim was a young man with a young family when he was called to Park View. He brought fresh, new ideas that reached many people. Yes, there are many accomplishments, and God s hand was on it all. Now we must say goodbye, and pray for Pastor Tim and his family as they follow God s calling. We will miss Esther, Riya, Sohann, and Tim, but they will always be a part of the legacy of Park View Christian Church. May God bless you all. Gina Artz, Elder
4 Father, Let the light of your presence show me the way as I enter my day. Let your Holy Spirit surround me and keep me safe from poor decisions and wrong turns. Your words in my Bible are my map every morning so I start my day filled with your Daily Bread. Thank you for all you do for me each day. I praise your Holy Name and follow the path of your wisdom and righteousness. In Jesus name I pray. Amen Prayer Time with Warren For I am the Lord your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.
