A Message from Father Tony Herold You are invited to a celebration of the Lord s birth this Wednesday evening at 4:00PM, 7:00PM, and/or 10:00PM; and on Thursday at 9:00 AM. This celebration surpasses any other you might attend this season. At these celebrations we celebrate the true meaning of Christ s birth as we gather for the Eucharist and do what our Lord has asked us to do in memory of Him. With all the beauty, sentiment, sounds, smells, and color of this feast of the senses we might forget the serious intent behind the birth of the Messiah. As we humans are born to live and eventually to enter into eternity at our birth; the Son of God came to us from eternity to enter this temporal world in order to experience death. He came to die in order that we might live. These thoughts put the sentimentality of the season in its proper perspective. We celebrate the love of God! God could have left us to our own devices. In that case, we would not have any hope or joy or life. God could have watched from a distance the tragedy that enfolded us. Violence, darkness, hatred and sin could continue to increase unchecked in our world. God didn t need to do anything. Who could have blamed the Holy One for leaving us alone to face our own fate? Christmas tells another story. God loves us. God entered into human history during the fullness of time to intervene among a human race bent on self destruction. God, who enters the world among the humble and simple, reverses the fate of the human race. Where once violence and death spoke harshly and loud; now a simple baby s cry breaks through to offer another way. Where once there was no life, no path, and many lies; now one appears as The Way, the Truth, and the Life. Come celebrate the birth of this Messiah. You don t need to bring any gifts... because everything pales in light of the true gift we celebrate this Christmas the very presence of Emmanuel, God-with-us. I wish you a very joyous and happy Christmas!! Jesus Christ, whose birth we celebrate, continues to guide us in wondrous and mysterious ways. Come, let us worship! ********** Please note our special guests at the 4:00 PM Christmas Eve Masses this year! Advent Wreath Prayer Week 4 O Lord, stir up Thy power, we pray Thee, and come; and with great might help us, that with the help of Thy Grace, thy merciful forgiveness may hasten what our sins impede. Through Christ our Lord. Amen. WORSHIP CHRISTMAS MASSES Christmas Eve: 4:00 pm in the Church Bishop Amos 4:00 pm in Denning Fr. A Gospel Reflection from Luke Ebener Some call it the most beautiful proclamation in Scripture- Mary s fiat. Her yes to God. While I agree that it is stunningly beautiful, there is so much more in today s Gospel. In the beginning of the passage, the angel Gabriel tells Mary that the Lord is with you and do not be afraid. Knowing this, she gave her yes. And not just this once, but every day of her life. And this is exactly what we are told each and every day by a God that loves us so much, if we listen for it. The phrase do not be afraid is in the Bible 365 times. It was one of the main messages St. John Paul II preached. Our current Pope is certainly telling us to go out with courage. Do you think we should start listening? This Advent and Christmas, as we prepare for and celebrate the coming of Jesus Christ, our Savior, let us all wake up each and every morning knowing that the Lord is with us. That we shouldn t be afraid. And that we can confidently give God our own yes and bring Jesus into the world through our life and example. Children's Liturgy of the Word is looking for you!
