Nineteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time Page 2 Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time August 7, 2011 Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. Psalm 85:12 THE PRESENCE OF GOD After the miracle of Jesus walking on water, the disciples exclaimed, Truly, you are the Son of God (Matthew 14:33). Most Christians will probably never experience such a dramatic miracle. Like Elijah, we await the manifestation of God in other moments. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the believer is to be constantly attuned to the possible presence of God in the everyday events of life. This is a stance that takes some people years to develop. Others seem to find the Lord easily in the simple things. As the week unfolds, let us look for the presence of God in the little things around us. Perhaps, like Elijah, we will be surprised at what we find. And, like the disciples, we can add our voice to the confession, Truly you are the Son of God. Copyright, J. S. Paluch Co. Through your generous donations, CCC is able to spread the gospel message in our community and all over the world. CCC funds the development of traditional and new media programs that inspire and minister to their audiences. Half of the collection from our diocese stays here to support local communication efforts, while the other half supports national Catholic media initiatives. Please give generously. Nineteenth Sunday In Ordinary Time Page 4 FAITHFULNESS Over the past two weeks I have officiated at five funerals and the great quality that each of our beloved dead had was. faithfulness. Faithfulness takes great strength of character, it involves sacrifice and putting others before ourselves. Faithfulness to God, family, neighbors and our country, brings great peace and growth. Everyone is exposed to different pressures. There is always the temptation to seek our own advancement. The Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve, Whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant. Christ was faithful until death. In marriage, the bride and groom promise to be faithful.... Until death do us part. Are we faithful to our baptismal and marriage promises? Are we faithful in raising our children? Are we faithful in giving a good days work? Are we faithful in making The Lord s day holy? Are we faithful in shepherding and laying down our lives that we may live fully? The hired hand runs away..... Because he does not care. My prayer for Harland, Joseph, Edward, Thomas and Freeda is that the Lord is saying to them, Come thou my faithful sons and daughter. God Bless, Fr. Mike ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ MOVIES Giggles: On a visit to a movie theatre, a man was struggling to hear the dialogue above the chatter of the two women sitting directly in front of him. Unable to bear it any longer, he tapped one of the women on the shoulder. Excuse me, he said, I can t hear. I should hope not, replied one of the women sharply. This is a private conversation.. FOOTBALL SEASON A man took his girlfriend to her first football game. Afterwards he asked her what she thought about it? I liked it, she said, but I couldn t understand why they were killing each other for just twenty five cents. What do you mean?, he asked. Well, everyone kept yelling, get the quarter back. LORD OF THE RINGS Did you hear about the guy who watched Lord of the Rings over and over again? It was just a force of Hobbit.
