Dear Parishioners, A NOTE FROM FATHER Last week, due to my forgetfulness, I forgot to write a congratulations to Deacon Tony Grack on his ordination. It was a beautiful ordination liturgy. I look forward to his first homily this weekend at the LifeTeen Mass. Special thanks to those who helped with the reception here at the Church of St. Peter; the staff, KCs, Catholic Daughters, youth, and Heather Huiras with decorations are the ones I can name. Jo Sargent has decided to retire from the Thrift Store Assistant Manager position, due to health. I thank her for her many years of service and invite you to join me in praying for her health. We will begin looking for another assistant soon. Elsewhere, you will find a message from Charlie Berneche, our youth minister. We wish him well as he leaves our parish to return to a position closer to his parents. This weekend is our last LifeTeen night, and last Wednesday was our last faith formation nights. Thank you to all catechists and core team for your service and faith-sharing, to Mary and Charlie for overseeing the programs. As good as our programs are, and as dedicated our staff and volunteers are, the real formators are the parents. Weekly Mass attendance, sharing your faith, praying together at home, asking questions about what they are learning in school and in the programs are all ways to help our children grow. So while the programs are complete, the formation continues. We live in a wonderful day and age with many great faith resources on even secular sites like YouTube. Just to name a few trustworthy publishers to pay attention just on YouTube to especially are Bishop Robert Barron, Ascension Presents, Catholic Answers, EWTN, and FOCUS. Their content is well-produced, informative, and in line with the Church s Teaching. ~ In Christ, Fr. Todd JOHN IRELAND NEWS www.churchofstpeter.org/ji We are a Catholic community welcoming students of all faiths, devoted to Gospel Values, Academic Excellence, and Christian Service. www.churchofstpeter.org/ji 5th Sunday of Easter 3

Thank you to the Knights of Columbus and the Catholic Daughters for supplying the food for the event. It was a wonderful meal and I heard several people comment positively on it. INFORMATION Catholic Home Missions Appeal Support the Catholic Home Missions Appeal today! Right now, over 40 percent of dioceses in the United States are considered home mission territory because they are unable to fund the essential pastoral work needed in their communities. Your support funds programs, such as religious education, seminary formation, and lay ministry training, to build vibrant faith communities right here in the United States. Please be generous. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/home -missions. A Note From Our Youth Minister Church of St. Peter, Ever since I arrived, I felt a welcome that cannot be put into words. One of my favorite scripture verses of all time is Matthew 25, and in it Jesus says "for I was a stranger, and you welcomed me." From the very beginning I knew this parish had a sense of discipleship. I am honored and blessed to have been part of it. It is with the heaviest of heart that I write to inform you that I will be moving back to Texas this summer. I received an opportunity to live and work closer to family. One of the most important lessons I have learned from St. Peter is the importance of family, especially to be a family connected through the Eucharist. I will be praying for you, the various ministries, and the parish as a whole. Know that I am blessed to get to know so many of you who make this parish great! ~Charlie Berneche Gustavus Handbell Concert Gustavus Handbell Ensembles in Concert: Join the three handbell choirs at Gustavus and director Dr. Chad Winterfeldt for a concert on Sunday evening, May 13, 7:30 pm in Christ Chapel on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus.
