Manchaca Baptist Church Volume 1, Issue 1 April 24, 2013 The MESSENGER From the desk of JOHN BERRYHILL, ASSOCIATE PASTOR Tyler Gatewood resigned on April 21st to join a church planting effort in Round Rock. As excited as we are about God s calling on Meghan and Tyler we will miss them deeply! Most of you don t know all of the times that Tyler and often Meghan went to game after game, plays, performances and all manner of activities just to see kids on their own turf. This pattern of spending time and giving support and opening their home with those in his flock reminds me much of John 1:14 in the Message The word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood. This young couple gave so much time and heart to our church and I know that we will want to support them, much as we did with Robert Krumrey as he launched so many years ago. Change can be good but also very bittersweet. It was difficult to announce that we were leaving our family here at MBC to go be a part of church planting residence in Round Rock. We know that the church and student ministry are in great hands, but it is still difficult. We are excited about what is next for the student ministry and we will be watching and praying for the church. Please be praying for us as we step in to this new chapter of our lives to plant churches. We ask for your prayers as we begin to raise Please take a moment and say a prayer, write a note or speak an encouraging word to these two as they follow God s leading into unknown territory. Also, be encouraged that our church has been a great training camp for God s leaders to establish new ministries and reach the unreached for Christ. May the Lord bless each of you and please keep our church in your prayers during this time of transition. If you are so inclined, we would love to have you at our prayer meeting the 1st and 3rd Sunday s of the month at 5pm in. Blessings in Christ, John Berryhill 512-282-0875, x26 Student Ministry News, by TYLER GATEWOOD, Student Minister support for what we feel that God is calling us to do. Please be praying for the students as they transition and for the new student minister. We look forward to celebrating for the next few weeks how God has moved. We love you all and hope to still regularly see each one of you even though we are in Round Rock. Children s Ministry May marks the end of the school year and opens an exciting time in Children s Ministry. This summer we have RA and GA camp for children that have completed the 1 st - 5 th grade and Preteen Camp for children that have completed the 4 th and 5 th Grades. Deposits are past due, but if you have a child who would like to participate we will work to get them a spot. Look to the church website for details. VBS this summer will be July 8-12, with family night on July 14. We do have a couple of things planned for the kids in the next few weeks so please mark your calendar. Children s party and movie night is May 4 th from 6-9 pm. We will watch Wreck it Ralph and have popcorn and lemonade. Come join us for some fun and fellowship. The End of School Party will be on June 5 th at Barbara Jones home, from 6-8 pm. We will swim, eat hot dogs and fellowship as the school year officially ends and summer begins. Stay tuned to the church website for more events and happenings in Children s Ministry. Trey Shultz Children s Minister P is for PRESCHOOL WHAT ARE WE UP TO: Our preschool department is having a great time during this spring season. We are learning about creation, Adam and Eve, the true meaning of Easter, and coming up the story of Doubting Thomas. We have room for more kids, so come on down with your preschoolers! HELP: We can always use more hands in our preschool dept. Currently, we need a 2 year old Sunday School helper to co-teach with Mrs. Nancy Bowen. We also need more help in extended session which is during church time. If you are interested, please let me know. KDO: Get your spot for the Fall semester NOW! Contact me for more information or check out our church website at manchacabaptist.org. PARENT CONNECTION: Spring is a great time to connect with your preschooler. The weather is wonderful and it provides great outside opportunities for you and your child. Camping is inexpensive and fun. Check your state parks for campsite availability. Campfires set the mood for great storytelling, singing, sharing and marshmallow roasting. Take time to enjoy the great outdoors with your child. Holly North Preschool Coordinator holly@manchacabaptist.org or KDO (Kids Day Out) mbckidsdayout@gmail.com Deacon s Corner The Deacons are looking forward to having Dr. Rick Spencer come to preach on April 28. A covenant or contract will be prepared for when the church calls an Intentional Interim Pastor. The Deacon team that will be working with the pastor when called is myself, Jimmie Felps, Carl Wren and Doyne Bailey. Each week the church has a Deacon on call (DOC) for reaching out to those in need such as illness, death in family and other things as they come up. You can find the DOC listed each week in the bulletin and in the monthly Messenger. The Deacons are really excited about the upcoming months in what God has in store for MBC, and at the same time saddened by the loss of Tyler and Meghan as they go out for the church planting ministry God has called them into. We want to reassure our youth and parents that exciting plans are in place for them and we will be bringing two summer interns (male and female) to work with John Berryhill and other teachers and leaders in the youth ministry. Texas Baptist Hunger Offering On Mother s Day, May 12, we celebrate those who care about us and care for us. We set aside the day to cherish those who cherish their children, who sacrifice to provide for the ones they love. This year, we re honoring our mothers by following their example. Let s sacrificially give through a special offering to provide nourishment for someone else. Because everyone is some mother s son or daughter. And every mother s child needs a meal. By consolidating the power of Texas Baptists, we can raise $1 MILLION or more for a great cause ending hunger in Texas and beyond. Ending hunger involves providing immediate relief, job training, agricultural support, clean water and other development efforts to help break the cycle of poverty. So this Mother s Day, let s not simply pass the plate in church. Let s fill it and fill the empty table of someone in need. Go to www.1day1million.com to donate today. Austin Children s Shelter Operation Christmas Child Our next Ministry Night at ACS is May 19th. So be sure to bring your crafts, games and lots of cookies.
