It is an opportunity to recognize the contribution that persons with disabilities make to our community and to our parish. It is also an opportunity for us at St. Mark to ensure that parishioners with disabilities are welcomed and included in all parish activities. Our parish is blessed to have an Inclusion Ministry that meets regularly to help us recognize obstacles that prevent parishioners with special needs from taking an active role in the life of the parish. Sometimes these are physical obstacles such as the lack ramps to enter parish facilities and sometimes mental obstacles such as a lack of understanding or empathy of the needs of others. The Inclusion Ministry organizes an annual Mass in which we celebrate the contribution of all of our parishioners. This special Mass takes place this weekend at the Saturday afternoon liturgy. Information concerning Disabilities Awareness will be passed out at all of the Masses. For many years parishioners Ginny and Dan O Brien have lovingly chaired our Inclusion Ministry. Through this ministry they have helped to make St. Mark an always more welcoming parish. We thank them for the heart with which they have lead this important ministry of our parish. This year they will step down from chairing the Inclusion Ministry, but they will continue to be a conscience for the parish reminding us that the Gospel value of inclusion is never a completed task. When you see Ginny and Dan be sure to thank them for the wonderful gift of time and talent they have given the parish. Parishioners who would like more information about the Inclusion Ministry or who would like to serve in this ministry are asked to contact the Parish Center. Congratulations to the men and women of the RCIA who celebrated the Rite of Election at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul this past Sunday. Monsignor William Stumpf, Archdiocesan Administrator, upon the recommendation of their catechists and sponsors, welcomed them as the elect who have been chosen for the Easter Sacraments to be celebrated at this year s Easter Vigil. Through the sacraments of initiation they will become one with us in our Catholic faith. We pray for them during the Period of Purification that is Lent. Please remember that we will begin our Tri-Parish Mission next Sunday, March 19, at at St. Roch. Br. Bob Baxter is a dynamic speaker and will lead us in a three day reflection on Living Your Faith Beyond Sunday Mass. During the three days of the retreat all other parish activities are suspended to allow everyone to participate in the Mission. See you at Mass!

The heart of our work is responding to HELPLINE calls from families in need within our parish boundaries. This year it resulted in more than 83 home visits benefitting 325 people, as we delivered mattresses, pots/pans, tables and chairs, and more to 75 families. We also referred families to the new Mission 27 Store after it opened in mid-october. We (you) helped hundreds of families with things like utilities, rent, car repairs, bus passes, motel and hostel nights, emergency food, restaurant cards, Kroger Certificates, and other assistance In short, we have met and assisted some truly amazing families here on the Southside. Your continued generosity makes it possible. There is a constant need for non-perishable food for families throughout the city. Please shop on our behalf and be ready to help us FILL THE SVdP TRUCK that will be here before and after Masses the weekend of April 1st and 2nd.
