On Monday the Home News published a wonderful front page article on our parish Summer Series: A conversation with the three Abrahamic Faiths: Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Tuesday night, Rabbi Philip Bazeley, from Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple in New Brunswick kicked off the series with a provocative presentation on the core beliefs of the Jewish faith. The series will continue this Tuesday, July 18 th, when Father Jeffrey Calia, C.O. Parochial Vicar. Saint Peter the Apostle in New Brunswick will speak on the core beliefs of Catholic Christians. All are welcome to attend, the presentation begins at 7 pm in the Parish Hall. There are still places available for the October pilgrimage to the California Missions. Pilgrimage departs Newark Liberty Airport on October 9 th when we will journey to San Diego and the first mission founded by St. Junipero Serra. Our journey will continue along the California Coast to Carmel where Saint Junipero Serra is buried and then onto San Francisco and our return home. Each day the pilgrims will gather for prayer and Mass and there will be time for sightseeing and fellowship. Looking forward to welcoming 25 people to make the journey to the Missions. The goal for this series is to begin to understand the basic tenets of these three major religions. The hope is to open the door for an ongoing exchange of information and to debunk some of the myths and incorrect ideas we may have of how Jews, Catholics and Muslims practice their faith in 2017. Tuesday, July 11 th, Rabbi Philip Bazeley, Anshe Emeth Memorial Temple, New Brunswick NJ. Rabbi Bazeley will answer the question: What makes a person Jewish? What are the core beliefs of the Jewish faith and how do these beliefs guide the everyday lives of those who embrace the Jewish faith? The Rabbi will briefly touch on the diversity of beliefs in the Jewish faith. Tuesday, July 18 th, Father Jeffrey Calia, C.O. Parochial Vicar, St. Peter the Apostle Parish, New Brunswick. Father Jeff will answer the question: What makes us Catholic? How do we live out our Catholic faith in 2017 America? How are Catholics different from the many other Christian faiths practiced around America and the world? Tuesday, July 25 th, Imam Kaiser Aslam, Chaplain, Center for Islamic Life, Rutgers University will answer the question: What are the core beliefs of Islam? What defines the life of a Muslim? Imam Aslam will help us understand the enormous diversity within the Muslim community. Finally, how do Muslims view Judaism and Catholicism, as well as practitioners of other faiths? There will be time for questions from the audience after each presentation. At the end of the formal presentations, there will be time for members of each faith community to dialogue with one another over refreshments. So please join us for one, two or all three conversations so we can begin to understand the faiths of our neighbors and friends CHARITY UNITY FRATERNITY PATRIOTISM
