Family Meals + Family Prayer + Sunday Mass = Stronger Marriages AND Stronger Families LEG #2 FAMILY PRAYER As I mentioned last Sunday in the homily we want to esteem the great gift of marriage between one man and one woman. One way we will do this is by blessing parishioners marriages at each 5th year incremental anniversary i.e. at 5 years, 10 years, 15 years and so on. We will bless marriages recognized by the Catholic Church (couples whose marriage was witnessed by a bishop, priest or deacon and two witnesses, or who received the bishop s dispensation from this normal Catholic form of marriage). When you celebrating such an anniversary and would like your marriage blessed at a Sunday Mass please: 1. Notify me of the date of the Mass you will attend. 2. Give me this notification at least 1 week in advance, telling me what anniversary (20th or 25th or 30th, etc.) you are celebrating. 3. Notify me if you have children. 4. The day of the Mass, please notify me before Mass that you are present for your marriage blessing. 5. I encourage you and any family with you to sit up front, but you may choose to sit elsewhere. 6. At the end of the General Intercessions I will invite you (the couple) to stand for the prayer of blessing. 7. At the end of Mass I encourage you to process out with the server(s), lector and me so everyone can congratulate you as they exit. Here is the prayer of blessing we will use: Lord God and Creator, we bless and praise your name. In the beginning you made man and woman, so that they might enter a communion of life and love. You likewise blessed the union of N. with N., so that they might reflect the union of Christ with his Church: look with kindness on them today. Amid the joys and struggles of their life you have preserved the union between them; renew their marriage covenant, increase your love in them, and strengthen their bond of peace, so that (surrounded by their children) they may always rejoice in the gift of your blessing. Peace in the world must begin with peace in the human heart. Proceeds will go the Faith Formation Program at St. Bernard. Volunteers are needed to help set up on Monday & Tuesday any time between 9am and 7pm., work the sale days and take down after the sale.
