Page 2 Sunday, January 8, 2017 Dear Friends in Christ, Following a Star to Christ in the New Year I hope you had a wonderful Christmas! Time marches on and here we are in a New Year. As we celebrate the Epiphany, we hear that the Magi were led by Jesus to a star. Their spiritual hunger and desire for God led them on the journey that brought them to Jesus. Fortunately they had the courage to leave their homeland and their comfort zone, and follow that star. Jesus is the one who can satisfy the yearnings and hungers that we experience within. He came for all people, and invites all people. Jesus continues to invite us to know him more deeply so that he can touch our souls, and strengthen us as his disciples. Like the Magi, we need to stay on that spiritual journey, and continue to grow in our relationship with the Lord. No matter how deep our faith is, the Lord always has more to give us. During this New Year, we will provide many opportunities for spiritual nourishment for all ages. Fr. Manno and I will be leading a new three week scripture series beginning January 17 th. Our focus will be on some challenging and inspiring passages from Jesus Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. That Man Is You! will start up again on Saturday, January 21 st. Over 125 men participated this past Fall, so we are hoping for a good turnout beginning in two weeks. If you will be new to the program, you can register through today s bulletin on page 11. On Saturday, January 28 th we will have our annual women s spiritual enrichment day. Last year we had a great turnout so we are looking forward to another spiritually enriching gathering at the end of the month. During the season of Lent we have two main events. We will be using a ive week Lenten DVD series that was developed by Bishop Robert Barron. The series in entitled Seven Deadly Sins and Seven Lively Virtues. It is an excellent series that connects well with the season of Lent. We will also be having a Lenten Parish Mission this year with Redemptorist Priest, Fr. Pete Schavitz. This parish mission of renewal is entitled Christ Be Our Light. I have worked with Fr. Pete in previous parishes and I know you ll enjoy his dynamic and insightful presentations. The parish mission begins the weekend of March 25 & 26. See bulletin page 12. May the blessings of the Lord be upon you as we begin the New Year. Fr. Deitz, Fr. Manno and I enjoy being your priests and we look forward to a great year together. May the prayers of the Blessed Virgin Mary draw us closer to God and to each other, and may we be strengthened to radiate and share the love of Christ! In Christ, Msgr. Steve R W M S A C R C S : 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. S : 7:30 a.m. 9:00 a.m. 10:30 a.m. 12:15 p.m. 5:00 p.m. (Mass in Spanish) Weekdays: M F : 7:00 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. Saturdays: 8:50 a.m. Confession/Reconciliation Schedule S : 9:15 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 3:45 p.m. T : 6:00 7:00 p.m. Adult Confirmation Program: This program is for adults (18 years and older) who are interested in receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. Many Catholics have been baptized and have received their First Holy Communion, but have not received Confirmation. We will begin a seven week preparation program on Thursday, February 9. Classes will take place at Crane Road from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Those who participate will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation at the Easter Vigil on the evening of Saturday, April 15, 2017. The instructors for the sessions will be the parish priests, along with Deacon Mike Smith and Mike Alber who is preparing to become a Permanent Deacon. We will be providing an overview of Catholicism, with a special emphasis on the Sacrament of Confirmation. To sign up, or for more information, please contact Jenny in the parish office at 630-338-8013 or by email at jhansen@stpatrickparish.org. You can also contact one of the parish priests.

The fund helps families that have experienced a job loss, the death of a spouse, or a significant illness. It allows them to keep their child(ren) in our school during difficult times. Donations to the Guardian Angel Fund can provide a helping hand to those families in need, and help children grow spiritually, intellectually and socially through the excellent education they receive at St. Patrick School. The need is great. Can you help? Who Can Help? Anyone can donate to the Guardian Angel Fund. Parishioners, alumni, and friends of St. Patrick School can make a difference in the lives of the young people entrusted to our care. Pope St. John Paul II noted the importance of Catholic education when he said: "Catholic schools place knowledge in the horizon of faith, so that it will become a wisdom of life." How Does the Program Work? Families in need of assistance will contact St. Patrick Catholic School principal, Jodi Falotico at 630-338-8100, to apply for assistance. How Can I Help?
