2 P 2 S, J 15, 2018 Dear Friends in Christ, Thank You Deacon Bill Johnson This weekend Deacon Bill Johnson shared some words of farewell with the parish. Bill and his wife Carol will certainly be missed by our parish community. They have been part of the parish for over 40 years. They raised their family here and have been very involved in our parish life. Bill has served as a permanent deacon for over 20 years at St. Pat s. He has impacted many lives through his ministry as a teacher, speaker and proclaimer of God s word. I have known Deacon Bill for over 25 years. He is one of the most compassionate people I have ever met. Many of you have probably been blessed by his caring ways. He has a big voice and big heart, and shares the love of the Lord generously. Bill also has a tremendous amount of wisdom. At times he has known the Cross in his life, but he has allowed the Lord to transform those crosses into wisdom and compassion. He also has a gift when it comes to communicating the gospel to young people. Even at 71 years of age, he connects in a life giving way with the youth, giving them encouragement and hope. When it comes to sharing the spiritual gifts that God has given him, Bill gives it 100% and I m sure the Lord is well pleased. On behalf of our entire parish community, I would like to thank Deacon Bill for blessing our lives through his diaconal ministry. May he and Carol be blessed as they move to Sandwich, IL and a new parish. May the light and love of the Lord continue to shine upon and through them now and always! In Christ, Msgr. Steve This Sunday, July 15th, we will have a Goodbye Open House in Dempsey Hall from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. to say Goodbye to Deacon Bill & his wife Carol and to send them off with Blessings for their next journey. Please stop by in the afternoon to visit & enjoy refreshments and treats for the kids. New Three Week Summer Scripture Series Great Saints in the New Testament Tuesdays: July 24, July 31, August 7 9:00 a.m. 10:15 a.m. at the Downtown Church & 7:00 8:15 p.m. at the Crane Road Church Led by Fr. Sarmiento, Deacon John Kladar and Seminarian Nick Sentovich Tuesday, July 24 Led by Deacon John Kladar: Saintly Women in the New Testament. Deacon Kladar will explore the relevant scriptures in connection to St. Mary Magdalene, St. Veronica, St. Martha and Mary, and other saintly women who witness to gospel virtues and provide an example for us today. Tuesday, July 31 Led by Fr. Sarmiento: The Life and Message of St. Paul. Fr. Sarmiento will give us great insight into the life and message of this great apostle who brought the Gospel to the world. He ll look at the main themes of Paul s New Testament letters and highlight how Paul s life is a great example of the power of God s grace, the need for conversion, and the importance of witnessing to our faith. Tuesday, August 7 Led by Seminarian Nick Sentovich: A Very Human Saint: Lessons from the Life of St. Peter. Seminarian Sentovich will explore the scriptural portrait of this man who would become the first Pope and lead the Church. St. Peter was a great sinner who would become a great saint and a powerful witness to the truths of the Gospel. We can take great consolation in the awareness that St. Peter also needed to go through a conversion process just like we do. Come to as many sessions as you can and please invite friends to join you. For more information on this series please contact Deacon John Kladar at or jkladar@stpatrickparish.org.

3 S, J 15, 2018 P 3 New Hymnal: Gather Third Edition!!! Last weekend we announced that later this summer we are going to be transitioning to a new hymnal. The Worship hymnal has served us well for many years at St. Patrick s. Our Music Commission, Parish Staff, and Pastoral Council has discerned that the updated Gather hymnal would bring a number of added bene its to our parish community. The Gather hymnal has a greater repertoire of hymns and songs for every liturgical season. All of the traditional hymns are present along with some of the best Catholic music composed in the past 50 years. Sacred music is an essential part of the Mass. The Church teaches that all should participate fully in the prayers, hymns and acclamations. Our hope is that the new Gather Hymnal will enhance our communal prayer as we lift our voices in praise of God. Another great feature of this hymnal is that all the prayers of the Mass are found inside of the front cover. The introductory rite, the Gloria and the Creed, and the Mass parts are easily found in the front of the hymnal. This is especially helpful for those who are learning the prayers of the Mass or who like to follow along. Also contained in the hymnal are the Sunday readings for each Sunday and Holy Day for the three year cycle of readings. The cost to put these hymnals in both churches would be approximately $29,500. That price includes the separate books and materials that are used by our instrumentalists and choirs. We have been paying $7,800 annually for the missalettes. Since we will no longer need a missalette, the payback on the hymnals will be less than four years. Would you be able to help us purchase the hymnals? If you would like to make a donation to help in the purchase of the hymnals, please make checks out to St. Patrick Parish and write in parish hymnals on the memo line. Donations could be mailed to the parish of ice or put in the collection basket. Anything you could contribute would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your consideration of this request. I truly believe this new hymnal will bring many blessings to our parish. May God bless you! In Christ, Msgr. Steve Hymnal Donation Form I would like to make a donation for the hymnals in amount of $ Check payable to St. Patrick Parish Name: Best Phone Number: Address: Memorial Mass for Deceased Children On Wednesday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the Crane Road Church Please join us as we remember the lives of children who have gone before us in death. PATRICK CATHOLIC SCHOOL St. Charles, IL Est Where Faith and the Future Meet Students of Service Every student at St. Patrick Catholic School is a member of the Students of Service (S.O.S.) Our school community is blessed with gi s of me, talent, treasure, and lots of love! Students of Service is a series of monthly opportuni es for our students to serve others in our community. Students of Service is a grass-roots effort to, not only bless those less fortunate, but also to bless those who serve, by providing even the smallest opportunity to give back. S.O.S. ensures each student feels they can serve in some capacity regardless of social status, income, or me availability. A student who may not have me to a end a service event may donate a gently used backpack, a pack of diapers, or a pair of shoes. A student who may not donate an item may give of their me. All students are blessed with a variety of opportuni es to feel as though they can contribute to service the marginalized in our community. The purpose of Students of Service is to create a habit, or way of life, for our students. Students who have put service into prac ce will always know they can find happiness through serving others. Opportuni es are adver sed in advance and students sign up to volunteer as o en as they can. In addi on to planned events, S.O.S. holds a monthly collec on of a variety of items for those less fortunate in our community. Cathleen has been leading women on a faith-filled journey for over 20 years. She grew up in Akron, Ohio and currently resides in St. Charles, Illinois. I Vocation Corner once took a mission trip to a li le country in Africa called Burkina Faso. During this trip I a ended mass at a ny local parish where food, water, proper housing and clothes were scarce. These people had li le to nothing to their names. 20 minutes prior to mass I no ced people showing up in the nicest, most elegant clothes to a end the mass and not only were they dressed so beau fully but also this ny parish was filled to the brim, so much so that people were peering through the blinds of the windows wan ng to see the mass. A er mass one women told me that they specifically have one ou it for when they see God at church, and that they give God their best because this hour of mass is the best hour of their week. I was amazed at how much these people recognized that seeing God was the greatest gi they had. Next me you go to church ask yourself if you desire God so much that you are willing to give Him the best you have because when we give God our best He can then guide us closer to His heart through the greatest hour of our week which is the mass. It is in this hour giving God the best that we have that He will then open our hearts and show us why we exist!" Fr. Manno
