Most Blessed Sacrament 15615 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70817-6311 Parish News September 22-23, 2018 Volume XXXIII No. 38 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time HOW DO WE TREAT THE MESSENGER? Let s not be too hasty in defining who is the wicked one and who (namely us) is just! We are very quick to label others as evil, because we tend to label ourselves as good guys. We don t like it when we are brought up short by a prophetic voice that brings us some bad news about our own behavior. We don t like to be reproached for transgressions of the law or charged with violations of our training. We may condemn and abuse those who bring us up against these truths about ourselves when, if we were really good, we would thank them for helping to keep us on the right path. This is the way they treated the prophets and the way they treated Jesus. Is this also the way we treat those whose message we don t like? Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc. TODAY S READINGS First Reading The wicked say: With revilement and torture let us put the just one to the test (Wisdom 2:12, 17-20). Psalm The Lord upholds my life (Psalm 54). Second Reading The wisdom from above is full of mercy and good fruits (James 3:16 4:3). Gospel Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me (Mark 9:30-37). A Living Rosary For Ourselves, Our Nation, And The Whole World October 7th is the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary which falls on Sunday this year and therefore, the weekend masses will be the 27th Sunday in Ordinary Time. However, the whole month of October is dedicated to praying private and community gathered rosaries (communal) asking Mary for her intercession in our lives and of the whole world. The Mysteries of the Rosary invite us into meditation and contemplation so that we may grow in trust of God so as to mirror the path of Jesus, Mary, Joseph, and the disciples in the Joyful, Glorious, Luminous, as well as, Sorrowful realities that are a part of our journey in the Kingdom of God here on earth. Certainly we need PEACE and a sober way of dealing with human hostilities in all its many forms and breeding grounds. The world family, our Church family, (and those of all religions), our country s family, and our individual families all need to RESPECT GOD so as to RESPECT LIFE that comes from GOD in all its infinite and finite forms. Fr. Phil Spano All of you are invited to a Communal Living Rosary on Sunday, October 7th at 3:00 p.m. in MBS Church which will be led by MBS Children. Why We Believe The Thursday night Scripture & Spirituality study group will begin an 8 part study by Dr. Brandt Pitre. The study entitled, Why We Believe answers common questions about the Catholic faith. Does God Exist? Is Jesus God? Peter and the Papacy? How did we get the Bible? Is the Eucharist Jesus real presence? Why confess to a priest? Do Catholics worship Mary? Purgatory and Prayers for the dead? If you ve ever been asked any of these questions but weren t quite sure how to answer or if you know someone who has left the church and no longer believes, then buckle up this bible study is for you! In it you will discover just how reasonable, biblical, and beautiful the Catholic faith really is. The study will begin on Thursday, October 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the St. John Room. For more information, please call Kit Bourgeois at (225) 324-5474. Coming in October... Walking with Purpose Women s Bible Study On Wednesday Mornings! Does your life feel out of control? Do you feel that you are doing so many things that you are doing none of them well? Lisa Brenninkmeyer, the founder of Walking with Purpose, understands how it feels when life is stuck on the spin cycle. As a mother of seven, she knows we don t just need to be told what kind of women we should be. We need some help getting there. Drawing from her own experience of balancing marriage, motherhood, and work inside and outside the home, Lisa helps you uncover the key to living a busy life with inner calm. What s the secret? Identifying key priorities, and doing first what matters most. With humor and wisdom, Lisa will help you: Stop striving and rest in God s unconditional love Experience new hope in your marriage Reach your child s heart Create clarity in a cluttered home Find friendships that go below the surface and satisfy Discover your passion and purpose Once in awhile, things may seem as if they re under control, but we want to walk with purpose regardless of our circumstances. God wants us to daily experience the joy and contentment that comes from knowing we have given our all to what He considers most important. The abundant and purposeful life we were created to live is just around the corner. This Bible Study will meet every Wednesday morning from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. in the St. Luke Room beginning Wednesday, October 3rd and ending Wednesday, November 14th. Please join us for coffee and goodies and find out more about yourself and your relationship with Christ. If you would like to know more, please contact Beth Robb at (225) 406-1731 or Angela Diffendal at (225) 252-1489.
