I know this can cause ambiguous feelings (especially coming out of mass). MBS is not the only church where they set up. They are asked to leave calmly, this is private property, and MBS and our sister parishes have a protocol for assisting the poor through its church Social Responsibility. We are free to give as we like. However, I ask that you refrain from this particular set up since they have been asked to refrain from being on private property without permission, they have been told about outreach to the poor through proper channels, and that they cause some chaos in the parking lots. Fr. Phil Spano A VISIBLE GOD We find it difficult to convey ideas to people unless we can actually show them something, demonstrate what we mean. God, who is invisible and truly beyond human understanding, apparently faces the same difficulty. People want to see, not just listen to an idea. So God gave us Jesus Christ, God made visible in the world. During these past weeks we have seen how Jesus was revealed as an infant to the shepherds and the magi, and then began his adult public life at his baptism by John. Today s Gospel reading tells us of his first sign, providing wine for the wedding guests at Cana. Of course, even Jesus, God made visible, was not always easily understood in his own day, nor is he even now. So we have to ponder what we see: the poverty and simplicity of his birth, his humility and openness before John the Baptist, his kindness and compassion toward people in their ordinary problems, such as running short of wine at a wedding. Couples should contact their church parish office and let them know they will be attending. The registration deadline is Wednesday, January 30, (Names received after this may not have certificates ready, but will still be able to attend the Mass). The longest married couple in our diocese will be recognized and honored after the liturgy. The Bishop will be available for picture taking at the reception, but please bring your own personal camera.
