NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Stewardship, A Way of Life Making a Return to the Lord Tithing Income for August 1, 2010 In pew collection $ 22,198.00 Online Giving $ 904.00 Total Collection $ 23,102.00 August 2, 2009 $ 21,421.00 From the Pastor: Many thanks to those who have responded to the tithing appeal. Your generosity is deeply appreciated. From a Parishioner: Our family has grown much closer to the Lord, since we started to tithe. Good Deed for the Week From a 3rd Grader: I helped get the house ready for company. Thank you for your generous and responsible support! REMEMBER GOOD SHEPHERD IN YOUR WILL! NEW ALTAR SERVERS Students in Grades 6 through 12 who would like to serve are invited to Server Training on August 9 & 11, from 9:30-11:00 a.m., in the church. Trainees must attend both sessions. Interested students are welcome to come on Monday and Wednesday. There will be a single training session on Thursday, August 19, from 9:30 a.m. till noon. PARISH FAMILY MEMBERS SERVING OUR NATION We acknowledge members of our parish families who are serving around the world in the name of our nation. Photos of family members are displayed in the Chapel narthex. If you have an immediate family member from the parish serving in the Military, please inform the Parish Office so we can include them in our prayers. Feel free to submit their photograph for our display board. THE ST. FRANCIS SOUP KITCHEN COLLECTION amounted to $5,164.00 ($42,190.00) and 30 in food items (215). Thank you again, for your generosity to this very important apostolate. THE OLD RUGGED CROSS Perhaps not the most appropriate way to describe a shiny silver cross then again, when you consider that it was exposed to nature s elements for nearly 55 years, perhaps it is appropriate! As we approach the beginning of a new school year, construction equipment will appear at the Education Center once again to place a concrete pedestal on which the metal cross that stood atop the tower of the original church and school will be erected in front of the blank wall that faces North 34 th Street. It will be surrounded by shrubbery and will be illuminated at night. The cross itself is approximately 14 feet high. The pedestal will be 5 feet high for a total height of 19 or 20 feet. A plaque will be attached to the pedestal stating that the cross is erected in honor of Bishop Kevin Rhoades for his support of the Catholic education of the youth of the parish and the diocese. Barring any unforeseen delays, the project is expected to be completed prior to the beginning of the school year on August 28. The raising of this symbol of our faith on the Market Street property (although not as high as before) is a fitting tribute to Bishop Rhoades and a good way to anticipate the 60 th Anniversary in 2011 of the founding of the parish, not to mention the Gospel values on which our Educational Programs are based.

Teen Disciples for Christ Due to Labor Day we will not have Youth Group on September 5. A lot of exciting things are coming to Youth Group this year. We will welcome new faces and new activities. The night s activities will not be revealed until that evening. Dress comfortably. No skirts for this event. Please RSVP by contacting Amanda Zechman at 737-8216. Religious Education News Registrations for the 2010-2011 Religious Education Year will take place after all Masses on August 21/ 22 and 28/ 29.
