It takes a large number of workers to make this event a success. If you talk to anyone who has worked this event in the past, you will hear them say they get much more out of the event than they give. I can tell you that you will walk away smiling, feeling great and counting your blessings for being allowed to work with some of God's Special People. This year's event will be held on Saturday, May 10th, 8:00 AM to noon at St Xavier s Track Facility. If you can help, please call me at (502) 262-1580 or e-mail at terry_luckett@twc.com. This event is one of those that you are encouraged to bring your family to participate with you. The young children make excellent ball chasers. When you respond, please include the names of everyone that will be coming with you along with their shirt size. Events Calendar Back Terry Luckett

PAGE 2 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 14, ISSUE 4 Brother Knights, Grand Knight s Letter I hope you had a chance to attend the Catholic Men s Conference. There were around 800 men there and I saw many of our Knights. The sessions were very good and the Mass was powerful indeed, and made even more so with the attendance of the 4 th degree in full regalia. Archbishop Kurtz gave a brief address prior to the keynote speaker and one of his points was that error increases with distance. His funny story of how his bowling score increased in relation to how close he was to the pins was very funny In fact, his score exceeded 200, when he was 10 away! Of course, what his message was that we need to keep close to Jesus and as we distance ourselves, so increases the chances that we make mistakes. This holds true with your Council. The more involved you are in the many Council activities, the more likely you will live in charity, unity and fraternity. As I always say, please don t feel guilty if you miss an event, but please be sure that you do participate in some event. We need you and your community needs you and it will be good for you. Coming up soon are several chances to participate including the Corporate Communion Mass on April 5 th at St. Albert s. There is a recruiting weekend, March 29 th at St. Bernadette s. Special Olympics in May at St. X high school will need several dozen Knights, please pick one and jump in. I would like to make special recognition of DGK, Mike Saylor and his team of cooks at St. Margaret Mary fish fry. They have recruited 12 candidates for Knighthood! Thanks to Mike and Otto Knopp and Bill Morriarity and Norm Beat for asking men to join our Council As Easter and Holy Week are just around the corner, remember to pray for your friends and family. Take the time to tell someone you love how much you care. Peace and I hope to see you soon. VOLUME 14, ISSUE 4 Bishop Flaget Flyer Knights of Columbus named a 2014 World s Most Ethical Company PAGE 3 The Knights of Columbus announced today that it has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, an independent center of research promoting best practices in corporate ethics and governance, as a 2014 World s Most Ethical Company. This is the first time that the Knights of Columbus has been honored with this award, which recognizes organizations that continue to raise the bar on ethical leadership and corporate behavior. World s Most Ethical Company honorees understand the correlation between ethics, reputation and daily interactions with their brand and that the award belongs as much to their associates as it does to them. The Knights is one of only two companies in the life insurance category honored this year. The Knights of Columbus was founded more than 130 years ago to protect the financial future of Catholic families in the event of the tragic death of a breadwinner and to provide charity to those on the margins of society, said Knights of Columbus CEO Carl Anderson. Today, those same founding principles are at work in every aspect of our business, guiding our corporate governance, our professional agency force, our investments, and our day -to-day business operations. It is this continued commitment to our foundational, Catholic principles that is the key to our ethical, sustainable and successful business model. The entire community of World s Most Ethical Companies believe that customers, employees, investors and regulators place a high premium on trust and that ethics and good governance are key in earning it, said Ethisphere Chief Executive Officer Timothy Erblich. The Knights of Columbus join an exclusive community committed to driving performance through leading business practices. We congratulate everyone at Knights of Columbus for this extraordinary achievement. The World's Most Ethical Company assessment is based upon the Ethisphere Institute s Ethics Quotient framework. The Ethics Quotient framework has been developed over years of effort to provide a means to assess an organization s performance in an objective, consistent and standardized way. The information collected provides a comprehensive sampling of definitive criteria of core competencies, rather than all aspects of corporate governance, risk, sustainability, compliance and ethics. The Ethics Quotient framework and methodology was determined, vetted and refined by the expert advice and insights gleaned from Ethisphere s network of thought leaders and from the World s Most Ethical Company. Scores are generated in five key categories: ethics and compliance program (25%), reputation, leadership and innovation (20%), governance (10%), corporate citizenship and responsibility (25%) and culture of ethics (20%). PAGE 4 Bishop Flaget Flyer VOLUME 14, ISSUE 4 The Blessed Sacrament By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates the month of April, to the Blessed Sacrament. One thing that sets Catholics apart from other Christians who believe in the Real Presence (that the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ) is that we don't believe that the Real Presence ends when the Sacrament of Holy Communion is complete. Frequent prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, reserved in the tabernacle, is a path to spiritual growth. ~Deacon Dave Reising For the Peace of Christ O most sacred, most loving heart of Jesus, Thou art concealed in the Holy Eucharist, and Thou beatest for us still. Now as then Thou sayest, "With desire I have desired." I worship Thee, then, with all my best love and awe, with my fervent affection, with my most subdued, most resolved will. O make my heart beat with Thy heart. Purify it of all that is earthly, all that is proud and sensual, all that is hard and cruel, of all perversity, of all disorder, of all deadness. So fill it with Thee, that neither the events of the day nor the circumstances of the time may have power to ruffle it; but that in Thy love and Thy fear it may have peace. The above was borrowed from my former council in Bedford, Indiana and written by my friend Deacon Dave SAVE THE DATE SATURDAY MAY 31, 2014 WE ARE MANNING THE FOOD TENT AT ASCENSION. WE NEED 12 PEOPLE PER 2 HOUR SHIFT AND WE COVER FROM 5 TO 11 PM Deadline for submissions for the May newsletter is April 25, 2014
