OUR MISSION STATEMENT: Growing In Faith Together (G.I.F.T.) Dear Parishioners, I am deeply honored that Bishop LeVoir has assigned me to serve you in the Apostles Peter and Paul Area Faith Community! I was assigned to St. Peter as a Seminarian the summer immediately following the 1998 tornado, so I might be familiar to a few of you. I am the second of four children, and was born and raised in the Wabasso Area (in which I have just completed six years of service). My parents are divorced. My mother now lives in Willmar, and my father is in Janesville (though I have little to do with him by his choice). My older brother lives in Faribault (he also has little to do with my mom, sisters and I), and one sister with her husband and daughter and son live in Willmar, and the other sister lives in Benson with her daughter and son. (I know I am biased, but I have the cutest, smartest nieces and nephews in the world!) I am sure that in whatever time that the Lord has prepared for us to be together, you will learn more about me, and I know I will learn more about you. I was an associate at Cathedral from June of 99-01, and then was in St. Mary s, Sleepy Eye for one year beginning in June of 01. I then was named pastor at Japanese Martyrs and served there three years ( 02-05), then transferred to Green Isle/Henderson/Faxon in 05-07, before being sent to Wabasso/Wanda/Seaforth/Lucan. Personally, in the last two years, I have come to enjoy running and biking (you might find me on the path or road soon if not already). I enjoy music and reading. Pastorally speaking, I know that I am stepping into some large shoes! Fr. Phil has left a great staff and has been very gracious in helping me prepare for service here. I ask your patience with me as I try to learn your names and the connections of families. I also know that, as 20% of my time is to be spent in the Diocesan Vocations Office, I may not be as readily available as your past pastors. In the past, this has only caused minimal conflict as the work at the Vocations Office is fairly flexible most of the time. Other than that, again, I am pleased to be here and look forward to meeting all of you, and serving you. Last, my deepest sympathy to the families of Monica Sohn and Jackie Johnson. May their souls, and the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace. In Christ, Fr. Todd ================================================================= WEEKLY SCHEDULE June 30 July 7, 2013 13 th Sunday in Ordinary Time, June 30 8 AM Mass at Nicollet 10 AM Mass (+William & +Charlotte Walter), St. Peter followed by Fr. I have been overwhelmed by your gifts and your expressions of gratitude that reveal your love and God s love. The inability to find adequate words did not prevent me from hearing what you wanted to say and I hope my deep appreciation has gotten through to you. When we become a community of people who really care for one another, we understand the joy Jesus wanted to share with us. I especially want to thank the Steward-ship Committee who got the planning going; the Catholic Daughters, KCs, and staff who together all made it happen. Special thanks to Helen Bremer who helped me in this transition in so many ways. There were many who left cards with heartfelt expressions of gratitude for having accompanied their family through various life- changing moments. And I just want you to know that the combined financial gifts will allow me to go to the moon and back, if I so choose. I promise to travel somewhere special next year. I ll let you know where. Thank you again and again, Father Phil P.S. My new address is: Fr. Phil Schotzko 112 W. Van Dusen St. Springfield, MN 56087-1396 Phone 507-723-4141 e-mail: phil.schotzko@newulmtel.net. Church of St. Paul June 30, 2013 Pastor - Fr. Todd Petersen Parish Office - 507-232-3857 Priest in Residence - Fr. Ed Ardolf Rectory / Parish Hall - 507-232-3897 Parish Administrative Assistant - Office Hours: Tuesday - Thursday Deacon Steven Spilman 9:00 am to 12:00 pm CHURCH OF ST. PAUL SUNDAY COLLECTION Welcome Fr. Todd Petersen Last Sunday we said good-bye to Fr. Phil and this weekend we say welcome to Fr. Todd Petersen who began his tenure as our pastor this week. This represents a new beginning for the parish, the area faith community, for Fr. Todd of course, but it s also a beginning for each of us as parishioners of St. Paul s. With new beginnings comes a renewed energy as we get to know each other and explore ways to strengthen our parish and faith lives. Fr. Todd is a holy priest and an experienced pastor. As time goes by, I m sure he will have ideas and suggestions to help our mission at St. Paul s. As a deacon who is ordained to serve Bishop LeVoir by assisting at St. Paul s, I expect to serve Fr. Todd s priestly ministry in ways that Fr. Todd finds helpful. I ask that you make a commitment as well to Fr. Todd as our Pastor, and serve our parish and area faith community. Christ established the Church to help lead us to eternal life with him and he sent the Holy Spirit among us to guide the Church and make it work. We each have spiritual needs and spiritual gifts. As members of the Body of Christ, we cannot separate our gifts from other s needs. God created us to live in a loving community with others. We must not hold back on our love for each other. The Church and the Sacraments can help meet our spiritual needs as long as each member of the Church is willing to use his/her spiritual gifts to help meet the spiritual needs of others. I ll be celebrating my first anniversary at St. Paul s on July 2 and I ve met a lot of wonderful people in the past year. There are many people of strong faith here at St. Paul s and our continued call is to put our faith into action to spread the Good News of Christ to the world. You have my promise that I will do what I can to support our new Pastor as he takes the helm here at St. Paul s. D.S. Many, Many Thanks! I am grateful for the all too short time of being Pastor at St. Paul's. Thanks for the reception after Mass and the many cards, gifts and expressions of gratitude. You will always be a part of me. Fr. Phil (Please read a longer message in the St. Peter section of the bulletin.) THURSDAY: Fourth of July - Independence Day! Have a safe and happy celebration!
