WORSHIP OF OUR LORD April 14, 2019 The only monarch who ever deserved that man should fall down before him was a child of poverty, whose life was spent in teaching, and who died an ignominious death. - Martin Luther In the infinite wisdom of the Lord of all the earth, each event falls with exact precision into its proper place in the unfolding of His divine plan. Nothing, however small, however strange, occurs without His ordering, or without its particular fitness for its place in the working out of His purpose; and the end of all shall be the manifestation of His glory, and the accumulation of His praise. - B.B. Warfield WE GATHER TOGETHER Welcome & Announcements Praise is rising Eyes are turning to You We turn to You Hope is stirring Hearts are yearning for You We long for You *Song of Gathering Hosanna (Praise is Rising) You are the God who saves us Worthy of all our praises Come have Your way among us We welcome You here Lord Jesus 'Cause when we see You We find strength to face the day In Your presence All our fears are washed away (Washed away) Hear the sound of Hearts returning to You We turn to You In Your Kingdom Broken lives are made new You make us new Pre- and Brenton Brown and Paul Baloche CCLI Song # 4662491

Shout aloud, O daughter Jerusalem! WE ACKNOWLEDGE OUR SIN Call To Confession Mark 15:12-14 And Pilate again said to them, Then what shall I do with the man you call the King of the Jews? And they cried out again, Crucify him. And Pilate said to them, Why? What evil has he done? But they shouted all the more, Crucify him. Corporate Confession of Sin Loving God, hear the prayers of your broken people. You rode a donkey and came in peace, humbled yourself and gave yourself for us. We confess our lack of humility. We often put ourselves as ruler and king. As you entered Jerusalem, the crowds shouted Hosanna: Save us now! On Good Friday they shouted Crucify! We confess our praise is often empty, mixed or weak. We often fail to honor you with our worship. We sing Hosanna, but cry Crucify. As the crowd laid their palms in front of you, you took no glory for yourself. We confess that we want to be accepted and take the easy way. We often neglect your will and seek our own will. As our Gracious King, hear now our prayers of confession. [silent time for confession] Forgive us, Lord, and help us to follow our King. In Christ's redeeming name we pray. Amen.

AND WE ARE GIVEN A WORD OF ASSURANCE *Words of Assurance from Psalm 147: 2-3,5 Leader : The Lord builds up Jerusalem, he gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure. The King of Glory forgives you if you have confessed your sins to Him! Hosanna! Hosanna in the Highest! *Confession of Faith (Creed) Heidelberg Catechism, 31-32 Q.31. Why is He called Christ the Anointed? Because He is ordained of God the Father, and anointed with the Holy Spirit, to be our chief Prophet and Teacher, who fully reveals to us the secret counsel and will of God concerning our redemption; and our only High Priest, who by the one sacrifice of His body has redeemed us, and ever lives to make intercession for us with the Father; and our eternal King, who governs us by His Word and Spirit, and defends and preserves us in the redemption obtained for us. Q.32. But why are you called a Christian? Because by faith I am a member of Christ, and thus a partaker of His anointing; in order that I also may confess His name; may present myself a living sacrifice of thankfulness to Him; and may with free conscience fight against sin and the devil in this life, and hereafter, in eternity, reign with Him over all creatures.

*Song of Assurance Man of Sorrows Man of sorrows Lamb of God By His own betrayed The sin of man and wrath of God Has been on Jesus laid Silent as He stood accused Beaten mocked and scorned Bowing to the Father's will He took a crown of thorns Oh that rugged cross my salvation Where Your love poured out over me Now my soul cries out hallelujah Praise and honor unto Thee Sent of heaven God's own Son To purchase and redeem And reconcile the very ones Who nailed Him to that tree Now my debt is paid It is paid in full By the precious blood That my Jesus spilled Now the curse of sin Has no hold on me Whom the Son sets free Oh is free indeed (Repeat) See the stone is rolled away Behold the empty tomb Hallelujah God be praised He's risen from the grave Words and Music by Matt Crocker & Brooke Ligertwood 2012 Hillsong Music Publishing WE INTERCEDE FOR THE NEEDS OF THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD Congregational Prayer Steve Iler There are prayer slips available in the pews in front of you and in the narthex. Please fill them out and place them in the narthex basket for public prayer. After the service 2 elders will be available for private prayer in the sanctuary.

Children s Blessing Children please join us up front for a blessing People of God, what is our prayer for these children? May the Lord be with you. Children: And also with you. May the Word of the Lord grow in your hearts. Children: Thanks be to God! Go in peace. WE RECEIVE THE GOOD NEWS FROM GOD S WORD *Scripture Readings Nathan DeLadurantey Old Testament Reading Psalm 24:1-10 Sermon Passage & New Testament Reading Mark 11:1-11 This is the Word of the Lord Thanks be to God Sermon Rev. Ben Sinnard The Worthy King Jesus Mark 11:1-11 (page 847 in the pew Bibles) 1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, Jesus sent two of his disciples 2 and said to them, Go into the village in front of you, and immediately as you enter it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Untie it and bring it. 3 If anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? say, The Lord has need of it and will send it back here immediately. 4 And they went away and found a colt tied at a door outside in the street, and they untied it. 5 And some of those standing there said to them, What are you doing, untying the colt? 6 And they told them what Jesus had said, and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their cloaks on it, and he sat on it. 8 And many spread their cloaks on the road, and others spread leafy branches that they had cut from the fields. 29 And those who went before and those who followed were shouting, Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! 10 Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David! Hosanna in the highest!

11 And he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple. And when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve. Sermon Notes:

*Benediction 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word. *Doxology Hosanna Hosanna in the highest Hosanna in the highest Giving of Tithes and Offerings A giving box is available in the back of the sanctuary to give to Cornerstone Church and her mission having been renewed by the Gospel to serve one another and to love Waukesha County. Giving is an act of worship, just like singing or praying, because when we give, we are recognizing that all we have is a gift from God. Returning a portion of that gift is both an act of obedience and dependence, and we are called to do so joyfully. Feel free to put your offering in the giving box before or after service near the back of the sanctuary. All scripture quotations generally are taken from the English Standard Version (ESV).
