Knight News Granite City Council 1098 Assembly 0224 September 2017 Grand Knight Dwayne Saul Faithful Navigator Elmer Long Ladies Auxiliary President Cheryl Moe ep A Word From the Grand Knight Welcome Brother Knights, The council installation dinner was again an awesome gathering of good friends, family and Brother Knights getting together for one amazing night to keep this council growing. Thanks again to District Deputy Sam Tauermicht and Father Edgar for their help with the ceremony. A special thanks to Father Edgar for accepting the honors to be our Council Chaplin for this coming year. Welcome to Father and all the new and returning officers. September will start with the Labor Day parade; be sure to check in the council room for more information. The Labor Day parade will be September 4, everyone is invited to come and join in. September 9, will be the Knights of Columbus family picnic. Please come out and enjoy time spent with family and friends. The sign-up sheet will be in the council room, please make sure to include all that are coming to make sure we have food for everyone. Picnic includes a bounce house, farm animals to pet, pony rides, balloon animals and food. September 15 & 16 will be our Annual Tootsie Roll ID Drive (Intellectual Disability). Please sign up; we need everyone s help to raise money for this worthy cause. The money raised goes to so many great foundations to help so many. Vocational booklets will be going out this month. Save us a stamp and pick them up in the council room. Remember how much of this goes to helping others. The council also receives back a small portion of every book sold and every book sold is a chance to win cash. So help your council, your community and yourself. A reminder, all books returned must be purchased in full and front covers still attached. Collection of the money and booklets need to be in by the middle of October. Installation of the Fourth Degree officers and the new Faithful Friar. The Supreme Convention was an experience that should be experienced by everyone. It was attended by 5 members of Tri-City Council 1098. The New Friar for the Fourth Degree is Fr. Zach Edgar of St. Elizabeth's Parish. The Installation of Officer was handled by Bernie Neitimierer, former Grand Master of the Southern District. Both the 3rd Degree and the 4th Degree was held at the same meeting and was followed by dinner catered by Mother's Catering of Bethalto. IL. Everyone WENT HOME WELL SATISFIED. A motion was passed to give a token of appreciation to Bernie for travel expenses. At this Tuesday's social meeting there will be a speaker from Granite City High School on a new program, called C. E. O. for high schoolers who want to be entrepreneurs in the future. Before closing our meetings the Knights recite a prayer for military personal around the world Lord, hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Amen. I also ask you to pray to St. Michael the Archangel Patron Saint for all Police Officers. Oh Almighty God, whose great power and eternal wisdom embraces the universe, watch over all policemen and law enforcement officers Protect them from harm in the performance of their duty to stop crime, robberies, riots and violence. We pray help keep our street and homes safe day and night. We recommend them to your loving care because their duty is dangerous. Grant them your unending strength and courage in their daily assignment. Dear God, protect these brave men and women, grant them your almighty protection, unite them safely with their families after duty has ended. Amen. May God bless the Tri Cities Knights of Columbus. May Saint Michael the Archangel Defend us in our Travail. Elmer Long Honoring Those Who Serve The 4th Degree Knights of Columbus would like to honor those family members who are so proudly serving in our national defense. From the Financial Secretary With summer winding down I hope this finds everyone in good health.

Our membership stands at 460 members, 16 Honorary only Members and 73 Honorary Members. We are sadly in the process of dropping 13 members for nonpayment of dues, I guess at some point everyone's life takes them in different directions, they will be missed. With everyone's help we will work toward recruiting new members to allow us to continue our very important mission. Our next big effort will be the Tootsie Roll ID Fund drive projected to take place the weekend of September 15th and 16th please see the sign-up sheets in the council room or give me a call for a time to come out and help. During the same period the Illinois State Council K of C Charities raffle to benefit Illinois vocations will be kicking off raffle booklets will handed out at meetings, sent with newsletters, or may be purchased at the KC Hall for $15.00 for 15 chances to win 1st prize of $10,000.00. All money must be turned into the council by 15 November, please help. Keep the following military personnel in your prays:e-4 Nolan Yehling, US Air force stationed at Qatar, nephew of Paul Yehling and Grandson of Mark Yehling. Paul Hellrich From the President of the Ladies Auxiliary We had a good turnout for our meeting. A HUGE THANK YOU to Gert Petty, Jennifer Hutson, and Diane McIntyre for providing the wonderful and delicious food. The new officers were installed and ready to go. We had a very short meeting. During the summer we used our Hot Line Call List. It became evident that some phone numbers have been inactivated; perhaps individuals have a cell phone and have discarded their land line. If you happen to have a new phone number, please contact Diane Vivod to update your contact information. Our next meeting will be September 19, 7:00. It would be nice to see everyone. You never now, you may have a chance to win not one attendance prize, but two. Have to be present to win. Cheryl Moe Photo Gallery KC Mass at St Elizabeth Church on 7/30/17
