St. Vincent de Paul Church Page Four Sunday, January 7, 2018 A NOTE FROM OUR PASTOR As many of you know, our Parish Pastoral Council has been facilitating a parish planning process since the new Council was commissioned last June. They hosted a Parish Gathering this past September which led to the development of ten Commissions to help us strengthen our parish community and mission/outreach. Since then each Commission, comprised of between 6-12 members, has clarified their purpose and established goals and objectives for the coming year. We will highlight each of these over the next several months. The Parish Communications Commission enhances and uses various means of communication, including social media, to communicate within the parish and beyond, our worship experiences, faith formation opportunities, parish activities, and services to the community. Their two fundamental goals are: 1. To create, improve, and make more interactive various parish communication initiatives, such as the parish website, Facebook pages, Twitter, other forms of social media, and various marketing strategies. 2. To make available to all ministries and organizations within the parish consistent, easy-to-use communication tools, resources, and ways to better connect with one another. The Commission's first specific objective was to have the parish consider hiring a part-time Communications Coordinator. After doing our appropriate research, we have hired on a part-time basis Jennifer Douglas-O'Neill, an active member of our parish, who begins this Monday. She brings a deep faith, a vibrant energy, and insights into how we can best communicate with one another and reach out to those around us. QUESTION OF THE WEEK Is there something I realize that I changed after encountering the Lord? Is there something I realize now that I should change? The same Christ who in Bethlehem, as a Child, accepted the gifts of the Magi Kings, is still the One to whom men and whole peoples open their treasures. St. John Paul II REVITALIZE, RENEW AND REJOICE! UPDATE ON OUR $1.6 MILLION CAPITAL CAMPAIGN Thank you for your generosity in this early stage of our campaign. We have received pledges and donations totaling $863,123 for 53.95% of our goal. We are grateful to the 99 donors who have made this possible. Each week we will keep you updated on our progress. You will find the campaign total listed on page 2 of the bulletin along with the report of weekly donations. The campaign total in that list will represent what we have received as of Monday mornings. We will also keep our campaign posters in the church updated, reflecting what we have received by the end of the week. If you need information about the campaign, please take a packet from the basket by the campaign poster at each exit. In each pew, there are also envelopes with a yellow border that you can use for a campaign donation. Beginning in February, parishioners will receive one of these envelopes each month with the regularly mailed Sunday envelopes. If you are interested in donating through E-giving, credit card, stock transfer, or IRA distribution, please contact Connie Pacanovsky. For more information or to volunteer to help, please contact Mary Anne Beiting, Director of Development at mabeiting@stvincentchurch.com. YOUR HEART SHALL THROB AND OVERFLOW The magi "were overjoyed at seeing the star." So many of the words of Isaiah positively glow at the prophecy of the shining light of Israel, Jesus. "Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance... Then you shall be radiant at what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow." Christmas day, with all of its light and glory, has passed, and yet we forget that the Christmas season continues until tomorrow. The glory of the Lord continues to shine and manifest the glory to all nations. We who are members of these nations of the earth should continue to celebrate and rejoice at the coming of the Lord into our lives. We are indeed the Gentiles who have come to worship Christ, and to be saved by his glorious appearance. Blessed be the God who reaches out to us in mercy and love, and may the joy of his coming fill our hearts forever. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
