Prelude A Way to Calvary Leadeth arr. Dale Wood Welcome & Sharing of the Peace (Please Stand) The Call to Worship P: Open to me the gates of righteousness; I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord. C: This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. P: Blessed is He that comes in the name of the Lord; we have blessed You in the house of the Lord. C: O Give thanks to the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endures forever. P: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Jerusalem; behold, your King comes to you; C: He is just and having salvation; lowly and riding on a donkey, now is the son of man glorified and God is glorified in Him. P: God has highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is above every name; that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth; and that every tongue should confess: C: Jesus Christ is the Lord, to the glory of God the Father. P: Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; behold your king comes to you. C: Blessed is he that comes in the name of the Lord. The Palm Sunday Gospel (From Mark, Matthew, and Luke) It Began on Sunday! Now when they drew near Jerusalem, to Bethpage and Bethany, at the Mount of Olives, He sent two of His disciples; and He said to them, Go into the village opposite you; and as soon as you have entered it you will find a colt tied, on which no one has sat. Loose it and bring it. And if anyone says to you, Why are you doing this? say, The Lord has need of it, and immediately he will send it here. So they let them go. Then they brought the colt to Jesus and threw their clothes on it, and He sat on it. All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your King is coming to you, lowly, and sitting on a donkey, a colt, the foal of a donkey. And many spread their clothes on the road, and others cut down leafy branches from the trees and spread them on the road. Then those who went before and those who followed cried out, saying: Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the kingdom of our father David that comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest! And some of the Pharisees called to Him

from the crowd, Teacher, rebuke Your disciples. But He answered and said to them, I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out. The Palm Sunday Processional #442 All Glory, Laud and Honor Ref All glory, laud, and honor To You, Redeemer, King, To whom the lips of children Made sweet hosannas ring. 1 You are the King of Israel And David s royal Son, Now in the Lord s name coming, Our King and Blessèd One. Refrain 2 The company of angels Is praising You on high, And we with all creation In chorus make reply. Refrain 3 The multitude of pilgrims With palms before You went; Our praise and prayer and anthems Before You we present. Refrain 4 To You before Your passion They sang their hymns of praise; To You, now high exalted, Our melody we raise. Refrain 5 As You received their praises, Accept the prayers we bring, O Source of ev ry blessing, Our good and gracious King. Refrain Public domain Confession and Forgiveness P: O Lord, You are the King, You are the worthy one and the one to whom we give all glory laud and honor on this festive day. Through all of our festivities, may we be reminded that You came as a servant and this day begin Your journey to your death on the cross, something You did for us because we could not save ourselves. C: Our hearts are like the corrupt temple. Come and clean them Lord and make them a place of prayer and love for Your habitation. Our voices are so like the Pharisees in the crowd, often keeping quiet when we should speak out in Your name. How awful it is to think that a cold and lifeless stone should be singing your praises on our behalf while we practice a cold and selfish code of silence. Forgive us and set our tongues free to declare You as King. Our attitudes are often like those of the chief priests and teachers, plotting our own ways, following our own selfish desires. Humble us, O humble King and grant mercy for our sins. P: Today the stones have not cried out because this place has been filled with joy of your hearts and the sincerity of your prayers. God hears from heaven and He forgives. God sees our sin and He covers it with His grace through Jesus Christ, His

Son. God is Jehovah, our Shalom, the Great I AM, and He has healed us and set us free. Introit Ps. 24:7 10; antiphon: Ps. 118:26 P: Blessèd is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We bless you from the house of the LORD. C: Lift up your heads, O gates! And be lifted up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. P: Who is this King of glory? The LORD, strong and mighty, the LORD, mighty in battle! C: Lift up your heads, O gates! And lift them up, O ancient doors, that the King of glory may come in. P: Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory! All: Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen. P: Blessèd is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We bless you from the house of the LORD. Salutation and Collect of the Day P: The Lord be with you. C: And also with you. P: Let us pray. Most merciful God, as the people of Jerusalem, with palms in their hands, gathered to greet Your dearly beloved Son when He came into His Holy City, grant that we may ever hail Him as our King and, when He comes again, may go forth to meet Him with trusting and steadfast hearts and follow Him in the way that leads to eternal life; through the same Jesus Christ, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. C: Amen. (Be Seated) Old Testament Zechariah 9:9-10 9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! behold, your king is coming to you;

righteous and having salvation is he, humble and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will cut off the chariot from Ephraim and the war horse from Jerusalem; and the battle bow shall be cut off, and he shall speak peace to the nations; his rule shall be from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth. L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. GRADUAL Hebrews 9:12a, c, 15a; Psalm 111:9a All: Christ entered once for all into the holy places, by means of His own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. Therefore He is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance. He sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever. Second Lesson Romans 12:1-2 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. L: This is the Word of the Lord. C: Thanks be to God. (Please Stand) Holy Gospel Luke 19:37-42 P: The Holy Gospel according to St. Luke, the 19 th chapter. C: Glory to You, O Lord. 37 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, 38 saying:

Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! [a] Peace in heaven and glory in the highest! 39 And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, Teacher, rebuke Your disciples. 40 But He answered and said to them, I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out. 41 Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, 42 saying, If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. P: This is the Gospel of the Lord. C: Praise to You, O Christ (Be Seated) Children s Message Hymn of the Day #443 Hosanna, Loud Hosanna Sermon: Following the Crowds Offer Unto the Lord! The Bible gives these guidelines on our financial giving: 1) First Fruits : i.e. Set aside a portion for God FIRST. He gets the best, not the leftovers. 2) Portion/Percentage giving : Give to God a percentage of our gross income; the Old Testament tithe was 10%; certainly this side of the cross we should be just as motivated, or more so, than the Old Testament believers! 3) God s Blessings : God promises if we are faithful in our giving, He will pour out blessing/abundance to us overflowing! Offering Please take this time to sign the Pew Pads in your row and pass them down. We thank God for our visitors and guests. Please share your e-mail with us so that you can receive a weekly note of activities/announcements. Thank you for worshiping with us! Offertory Anthem Hosanna to the Son of David Daniel Moe The Crowd honoring Jesus was just a bunch of fickle street people - rabble - the same ones who cried out for the crucifixion a week later. The music reflects both the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and the underlying horror of Hoy Week. F.B.

(Please Stand) TODAY WE WILL CELEBRATE THE LORD'S SUPPER. St. Paul wrote, "Let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup". Ask yourself: Am I sorry for my sins? Do I believe that Jesus died for my sins? Am I resolved, by the work of the Holy Spirit, to use the power of Christ which is offered in this Sacrament, to amend my sinful life? St. Paul also wrote, "He who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgment to himself, if he does not judge the body rightly". Do you believe that you receive the TRUE/REAL BODY AND BLOOD of Christ in, under and with the bread and wine for the full pardon of sins? (Please use pages 329-330 in the front of your hymn book to examine yourself.) Children are invited forward to receive a blessing. Preface Service of the Sacrament

Sanctus Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen.
