St. Charles Borromeo Church August 12, 2018 SUNDAY COLLECTION August 5, 2018 Offertory Collection $21,060.41 ACH / Online / Credit Card 8,293.00 Total $29,353.41 Many thanks! PCRF (Parish Catholic Religious Formation) Registration of PCRF for the 2018-2019 school year is going on now. Any child attending grades Kindergarten thru 8 th in the Fall can register at the Parish Office. Classes are held on Mondays (September thru May) and will begin Monday, September 17 th. You will get a letter about opening day early in September. If you have any questions, please call the PCRF office (440)886-5668. CHILDREN S LITURGY OF THE WORD It is almost time!! I m sure many of our young children are as anxious for CLW to return, just as our teachers are. Children s Liturgy returns on September 9 th at the 10:00am Mass. This program is for pre-school age children as well as those that have not received Holy Communion yet, essentially grades PreK-2. We are in need of two more teachers. I m sure many of you have seen our fun and energetic group of children. If you are able to help, training is provided; however, you must be VIRTUS trained. Virtus training is also available. Please contact the PCRF office at 440-886-5668 and leave your name and phone number. This Wednesday, August 15, is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Mother and a holy day of obligation. For your convenience, we offer this Mass schedule: Tuesday, August 14, Vigil Mass at 7:00pm Wednesday, August 15, at 7:00am, 10:00am, 7:00pm You can see, as promised, that we now have an all-concrete Charles Avenue playground/parking lot. The final pour of concrete was on Friday, August 3. The concrete must cure for two weeks and we then expect to have the lot open for use by next weekend, August 18/19. That s perfect since school resumes on Wednesday, August 22. We will no longer have to topcoat the lot and that will save us about $6,000 per year. For that new lot, many thanks to Carnival 2018 and to grant-writer John Kedzior. We are also shopping, as promised, for that new van; we should have that project wrapped up in a few days. Because we did so very well with Carnival 2018, we will add two additional projects to this year s To Do list: The lights in the choir loft, currently incandescent, require scaffolding to change. This time we will install LED lighting fixtures; that will eliminate the need for scaffolding every two years. The second project is to install LED lights on the poles at the north perimeter of the Wilber Parking Lot. That will brighten things up considerably during the winter months and for evening meetings. Our parish Evangelization Commission has met faithfully for the last two years. They have done a great deal of work helping us to become a more welcoming parish. The formation of a Greeters Ministry is just one of the many tasks they have undertaken. The Commission also looks forward to sponsoring the Joyfully Gifted Retreat open to all parishioners on Saturday October 20 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. This Retreat Day helps individuals to identify their spiritual gifts and affirm in many cases how those gifts are already at work in building up the Kingdom of God. Please mark your calendar now and plan on making the Joyfully Gifted Retreat. We will add a daily Mass to our weekday schedule, effective Friday, August 24, at 8:30am. So there will be an 8:30am daily Mass every Friday beginning August 24. (Whether school is in session or not) until the first week of June 2019. The Day School attends that Mass, but there are plenty of seats available and you are most welcome to join us. Here s a heads-up for parents of second graders and eighth graders parents of those children celebrating First Reconciliation/First Communion and Confirmation this year. There will be four one-hour sessions for those parents in the fall: Mondays, September 17, October 15, November 19, and December 17, 7:00pm till 8:00pm, each evening. We have lined up four excellent speakers. Parents are reminded of the expectation for all parents to receive proper instruction in addition to their children. Please mark your calendars now!
