Twenty-fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 23, 2007 God... wills everyone to be saved and to come to knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4 TODAY S READINGS First Reading You who trample upon the needy and destroy the poor of the land, the Lord will never forget what you have done! (Amos 8:4-7). Psalm Praise the Lord who lifts up the poor (Psalm 113). Second Reading God our savior wills everyone to be saved (1 Timothy 2:1-8). Gospel The person who is trustworthy in very small matters is also trustworthy in great ones (Luke 16:1-13 [10-13]). PRIESTS RETIREMENT FUND We are blessed to have 78 retired priests in our Archdiocese! Because priests do not earn high salaries while working, they receive only a small Social security check each month in retirement to supplement their pensions. The Priests Retirement Fund helps pay their expenses. The Priests Retirement Fund faces unprecedented challenges priests are living longer and this means drawing from the Priests Retirement Fund for a longer period of time. Additionally, a large number of priests in the Archdiocese are nearing retirement age and this will place an even greater burden on the Fund. Your increased support will help meet these growing needs. Thank you for your gift to the Priests Retirement Fund today. Your generosity is appreciated. For those who forgot their envelopes, you can still send it in either to the Pastoral Center or drop it in the collection basket next Sunday. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM This program is designed for children in grades K-8th attending public school. Catechism classes (CCD) are held: Saturday 10AM-12 Noon or alternate choice Tuesday 5:15-6:30 PM All children who have already received the Sacraments are asked to attend. Knowing the basics of our Catholic teachings and religion requires more than three or four years of Religious Education, because it is the Formation of faith for life. The program includes instruction for First Eucharist and Confirmation. We had a good number of children in 2006-2007, however, we feel that there are still many children in our parish boundaries attending public schools who are not attending our Religious Ed. Program. Please help us spread the word. It s everybody s responsibility. RCIA for Children and Youth ages 7-17 who need the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist: Tuesday 5:15-6:30 PM Parents may register at the Pastoral Center (1555 39th Ave), Monday to Friday between 9:30-3 PM. WELCOME TO HOLY NAME OF JESUS PARISH, SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA Page 6 HOLY NAME SCHOOL Dearest Parishioners, We owe all of you a great big thank you for allowing us to block off the playground for two weekends last month for our yard painting project. We are so grateful that you were patient with the inconvenience, and I hope you enjoy our beautiful yard as much as we do. However, none of us can enjoy it as much as the children. You should have heard the phrases of exclamation from them on the first day of school, Oh wow, it s like a brand new school. They have been having a grand time at recess with all the additional activities at their feet. The list is too long to name all of our wonderful helpers and donors, but I must name the people who headed different parts of our summer projects. Before doing that though, I want to thank the many parishioners and parents who contributed to the yard project fund. All of the materials and supplies were paid for by your generosity. This is a Three Star Parish. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and the hearts of all the children. The leadership of the following people brought about the amazing changes this summer, a big, BIG thank you to: Sandra Senhaji (mother of Isobel Gr. 2) for the vision and leadership of the yard painting (both maps and the primary circle come with a complete curriculum for teachers to use with students), to her uncle Chuck Harris for making the planter boxes, to Noel Beltran (father of Nelson Gr. 2 and Alysia, Gr. 6) for replacing the benches, to Jean Thompson (mother of Austin, Gr. 2 and Garrett, Kindergarten) for spearheading the K curtain project, to Khiem Nguyen (father of Amy, Gr. 4 and Brittney, Gr. 2), Sergio Herrera (father of Omar, Gr. 4) and Luis Vidalon (father of Luis Gr. 7 and Susan Gr. 6) for painting the basketball hoops, backboards, poles and replacing the nets. In addition Mr. Herrera and Mr. Vidalon painted our planter boxes to protect them from the weather. There are changes inside too, and again too many helpers to name individually here, but a big thanks goes out to all. The main hall and four classrooms were painted. Special thanks to the parents who helped prep, wash and sand walls, to the members of the parish adult choir who helped paint the music room, to the many teachers and staff members who helped paint and especially to the soon to be canonized parishioner Fred Grafelman and his #1 helper Vince De Lucca who seemed to live here this summer. Special note to Mr. Grafelman, You are a prince, Fred! Thank you for sharing your expertise, your materials, and your generous heart with us. Our Kindergarten and main hall make us look brand new and it is because of you. The school year is off to a wonderful start and you, our special Three Star Parishioners, have helped to make it so. We appreciate you!!! With warmest gratitude, Ann Manchester, Principal
