LADIES AUXILIARY PRESIDENT Dear Ladies, SPECIAL NOTICE: With the pending sale of our building in the near future, the Ladies Auxiliary will not be meeting in March, and there will not be a Pot Luck in March either. Once we know our new location, I will advise as to when & where our monthly meetings will take place Stay Safe & Stay Warm Ladies Auxiliary President, Elaine Morris 414-213-7446 524 Center Board Inc. LADIES AUXILIARY SICK LIST Dolores Albrecht (c/o Shore Haven) 1305 West Wisconsin Ave Oconomowoc, WI 53066 Genevieve Olen c/o Meadowmere 701 East Puetz Road Room 221 Oak Creek, WI 53154 Phone 414-766-2221 Audrey Heine c/o Gerry Pareteau 143 Lake Street Pewaukee, WI 53072 Margaret Surges 9001 W. Holt Ave. Milwaukee, WI 53227 Please remember these Ladies in your prayers and send a card. Any changes, please call Mary Dooley 414-433-2670 We have been offered a firm closing date of March 3rd. 2017 in regards to selling the 524 Center Inc. building & it s surrounding property to our prospective buyer. The exact time & location of closing has not yet been determined. Once the sale is finalized, a full report of the sale will be mailed via USPS to all members in good standing. We would also give a full report at the next monthly meeting date following the close of the sale. We may have 30 days to vacate, once we close, or maybe less time, depending on the discussions and agreements at the time of closing. With that uncertainty in mind, our Ladies Auxiliary President, Elaine Morris has postponed their March meeting and Pot Luck & any future meetings until a new location to meet has been confirmed. Our future permanent location plans will be open for discussion to the entire membership in good standing. (Good standing means current in all dues, and in compliance with all rules & regulations of our Order & Bylaws). A mailing will go out to all members in good standing, 30 days before such meeting would take place. All discussion and voting would be done at the official meeting location under Roberts Rules of Order. A team of members has been identified to start canvassing our neighborhood to determine what sites may be available to consider. We need to consider that both our men & ladies meet on the same night, so separate meeting areas would be required. Also, we need easy access for those who have issues navigating stairs, or use wheel chairs or walkers. We also, having been in existence for 117 years, have a considerable amount of special memorabilia & artifacts as well as the business records of the 524 Center Inc. to consider storage for same. We currently are renting two 10 x 20 storage lockers. One for the Council & One for the 524 Center. More details on page 4 regarding Task Force Patrick Reiff, 524 Center Inc. News from the 524 Pere Marquette Foundation Recipients Hi Rory, January 17, 2017 Knights of Columbus Foundation ATTN: Rory Gillespie 3200 South 103 rd Street Greenfield, WI 53227 Dear Rory, On behalf of the Board of Directors, the staff, and the many hundreds of Latino youth and families participating in Casa Romero s programs, I wish to gratefully acknowledge receipt of Council 524 s grant of $3000 (Ck*3065) in support of the Center s Knight s Quest retreats. We are truly grateful for the continued support of the Knights in helping us to fulfil our mission to inner city youth of color. The truth is that we can only reach out to these young people with the support of many partners such as the Knights. Again, thank you! Sincerely in Christ, David M. Shields, SJ Executive director, Casa Romero Renewal Center I wish to extend another thank you to the Knights of Council 524 Foundation. We seminarians appreciate your generosity very much. The staff had passed along your desire to receive photos of the fantastic exercise bike that the Knights generously donated to the seminary. We're getting lots of use out of it. Attached are some photos of myself with the new bike in our seminary gym. I apologize for not getting these to you sooner. The beginning of the semester became hectic and time got away from me. I hope that you can publish them in your newsletter or show them to some of the other guys in the council. God bless, Will Arnold Seminarian St. Francis de sales Seminary 4
Financial Secretary Article Brother Knights: Membership Dues Effective January 1st., I mailed out our Annual Dues notices for the Calendar year 2017 to the Council Membership. As of Feb. 1st. We still have 35 Regular & Honorary members combined that have not renewed their membership. Per our Supreme By-Laws, I must now generate and mail a second notice to those members still in arrears. Thank You to those members that have already renewed their membership status. Your timely response is appreciated. P.S. You may have noticed that the January mailing did not include any requests for voluntarily donations of $3.65 for our PKD program, or $3.50 for Culture of Life, or $10.00 to support the publication on our monthly newsletter, The Compass. This was done, because last year many did not, or were not able to provide a voluntary donation, and this then requires that I go into each members profile in our member management computer system & void out those voluntary invoice requests. This year I will prepare a separate non-invoice appeal via the USPS mail, to our entire membership, asking if you would be able donate to support any or all of these worthy causes. Thanks as always, God Bless, Pat Reiff, Financial Secretary VOCATIONS ARTICLE Joseph A. Heim M.M. writes in a Maryknoll booklet; Our men s bible study group in Venezuela had gotten into a complaining session about the Church. Several of the men said the bishops just didn t care about the poor. But I knew the cardinal of Caracas for many years and perceived him to be a humble and caring man. So I said Why not invite Cardinal Jose Lebrun Moratinos to see our barrio and visit with us? They scoffed, believing he would never come and I assured them that if they invited him, he would come. And he did. Cardinal Lebrun spent the day in one of the poorest sections of the city and walked up some very steep hills. Later the people gave him the only stable chair in the neighborhood and he sat, listened and led them in prayer. When I drove him back to his residence in the evening, he said I am very tired, but this has been a great day for me. Roger Leto, Vocations 2 CHANGES TO THE MEMBERS OF THE 524 CENTER INC. PGK Michael Wember has asked the Board to be replaced as Vice President, and the Board of Directors & Board Members have unanimously appointed PGK David Mohrbacker to assume the role of Vice President for the remainder of this Fraternal Year. Thank you Michael for your service and congratulations Mr. Vice President, PGK David Mohrbacker. We also welcome PGK John Imp Jr. as the new 3 year board member. John has been instrumental in helping the Center by preparing the necessary paperwork for filing with the State & Federal government. Welcome John! The full listing of current Board Members is shown on page 2 of the newsletter Pat Reiff, Board of Directors, Treasurer 5
