YOUTH MINISTRY The office of Youth Ministry is now in full gear fundraising for our annual Appalachia Service Project. You have heard our speakers at the masses this weekend and perhaps are wondering how you can donate to this worthy service project which empowers our teens to serve America's poor. All checks can be made out to St. John Vianney Youth Ministry and sent to John Cook at St. John Vianney Church, 420 Inman Ave, Colonia, NJ 07067. If you choose, you can bring your donation to the parish office and they will place it in my mailbox. As always, we are incredibly thankful and grateful for your repeated generosity. Your efforts and support has changed this from a youth ministry project to a parish project and we remain in awe of your continued generosity. Many of our teens have a life changing experience that solidifies their faith, engenders a life long desire to serve, and gives them a new perspective of gratitude. When coupled with the roofs that get repaired, porches and wheelchair ramps that get built, trailers and homes that get insulated, and friendships that are forged this trip is good for everyone. In other news, Teens, there is a youth ministry meeting this Sunday night, June 3rd. We will discuss upcoming events including the SJV Fair and Appalachia. I look forward to seeing you then! God Bless! PRO LIFE No May meeting. The next meeting will be in September, date to be announced. The monthly maternity collection is every third weekend. The next meeting of the Social Justice Ministry is Thursday, June 7 th church. All are welcome! at 6:30pm in the Greetings from the Office of the Diaconate My name is Deacon Sam Costantino and I serve the bishop as Director, Office of the Diaconate for the Diocese of Metuchen. The purpose of my note is to begin to invite you to read some questions and answers about the ministry of deacon. The questions and answers are taken from Deacon Bill Ditewig s book entitled, 101 Questions and Answers about Deacons. I will be running these Q&A articles during the next several months in preparation for the recruitment of men into the Class of 2017. I hope that you find them informative. If you have any questions, please call the Office of the Diaconate at 732-562-1990 ext. 1710 or 1711. Question #12: If the wife of a deacon dies, may the deacon get married again? Canon law normally prohibits any cleric from getting married. Notice that canon law does allow married men to be ordained to the permanent diaconate; but normally, once ordained, a man cannot marry. This means that if a deacon s wife dies, the normal course is for the deacon to remain celibate. Under certain conditions, a deacon s bishop may petition the Holy See for a dispensation from canon law so that the deacon might marry again, but this is an exceptional situation and not the norm.
