We ve decluttered the office and library, repaired the ceiling leaks, had the metal roof resealed (guaranteed for 50 years!), continued to reorganize the kitchen (a big thank you to the Osmunsons for their generous donation to our kitchen in memory of Hedy s parents), had Wi-Fi installed, hung artwork (with a special thank you to Dr. Jamie Lipton for his very generous donation of artwork) in the sanctuary and social hall and continued to upgrade our security procedures. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Judy Saperstein and her committee for their many hours of work this summer. Now we turn our energies toward getting ready for the High Holidays. First, we have our joint Selichot services held at Temple Emanuel on Saturday, 01 SEP 2018. Mr. David Proser and Ms. Alene Kaufman have been busy preparing for High Holiday services. I know both Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur services will be spiritual, inspiring and thought provoking as usual. And don t forget the 7 days of Sukkot complete with lunch in our sukkah following Shabbat services on 29 SEP 2018, Yizkor on Shemini Atzeret, then Simchat Torah starting with a spaghetti dinner followed by our traditional hakafot on 01 OCT 2018. Don t forget to bring kosher candy to distribute during the hakafot! We hope to see everyone at our first social of the year an end of the summer barbeque at the home of David and Renee Lesser on Sunday, 02 SEP 2018. We have many more programs and activities in the pipeline and will detail them for you as these plans become solidified. Kehillat Bet Hamidrash (KBH), the Kempsville Conservative Synagogue, distributes a Book of Life on Yom Kippur. Participants dedicate this pamphlet in memory of family and friends, whose names we read during the Yom Kippur Yizkor (Memorial) service. By honoring their memory through gifts of tzedakah, their contributions become a living memorial and support the continuity of Jewish life and community. Yom Kippur starts the evening of 18 SEP 2018 on this year s secular calendar, with Yizkor occurring around noon on Wednesday, 19 SEP 2018. The Book of Life automatically includes those you memorialize with a synagogue yahrzeit plaque. If you wish to include an additional name in the KBH Book of Life, we request a donation of $36 for the first two names, with $10 for each additional name. Please neatly print the name of the person you wish to include, and the person(s) remembering the name we shall read. We assume you wish the names grouped together unless otherwise indicated.
